One of an important place to visit in polonnaruwa region. Located on Girithale-elahera road, few kms away from girithale junction. Many varieties of animals are preserved. It’s really worth to visit this place as many of these animals are unable to watch in your naked eyes in normal life. All credit goes to the wild life department. They have done a great job for us.

This place is by the side of the road and it is well maintained. One needs to buy tickets for a very small fee before entering and need to remove footwear at the front. They have displayed many wild animals which have been preserved. Information about the displayed animals are available at most places. For kids it is highly recommended to get an exposure to wildlife. However with limited space they have placed the preserved animals close to each other and when walking one can accidentally touch them as well. They allow photographs and outside the museum they have also arranged seating area under a tree. Highly recommended to drop by if you go past this area.

Preserved museum for wildlife and animals. They have dummies for many animals like life models. Ticket price is very reasonable. Located between Elahera - Girithale road. Please note that, be kind to protect the nature when visit this place. Dedicated vehicle parking is not available. Vehicles can be parked on the road side. Most useful for School children and wildlife lovers.

A museum of preserved wild animals. If you are a wildlife lover you can leran a lot by visiting the museum. You get to observe the animal very closely so you will be able to find distinctive colors, patterns and shapes. Special thanks to Miss Charitha from Department of Wildlife for the excellent explanation about species.

Great place to visit. Most of types of wild animals preserved. Though these animals are on Sri Lanka they are not easy to see. You need to get lucky to see them alive in Forest. This place has done a good job by preserving dead animals so we can see them for real.. of course dead ones

Small museum. But it was OK with quite a collection of preserved animal replicas. (Replicas made of preserved animal skins).

The Wildlife Museum in Girithale, Sri Lanka, is a fascinating treasure trove for wildlife enthusiasts and curious minds alike. This compact yet informative museum showcases an impressive collection of exhibits, featuring detailed displays of the region's diverse fauna, including preserved specimens, informative panels, and interactive presentations. From showcasing the local wildlife to highlighting conservation efforts, the museum offers valuable insights into Sri Lanka's rich biodiversity. Although modest in size, this museum provides an engaging and educational experience, making it a worthwhile stop for those passionate about the country's wildlife and conservation endeavors.

It is a training school for wildlife staff but there is a Museum available with animal models made by real skin from the dead animals found around the country. Not a bid museum but I'd you are passing through Girithale just walk and have a look on it. The lady officer from Rambukkana worked at their was very friendly and explained most things. Elephant's Heart was avaialnelnto see in a tank ther which is huge.
