Free parking if you drive just a little bit past The Waterside pub. Wear your wellies between November and March if you plan to walk around the entire Dam! Take some bread for the ducks/swans/Canadian Geese and take some seed/bird nuts for the Black Caps, Nut Hatches and Robins! The three Heron are near the arches and if you're lucky you can catch a glimpse of the Kingfishers! There's also Eurasion Jay and Buzzard if you're lucky to spot them. Loads of Grey Squirrel also. It's a very pleasent place to walk!

Another trail for pleasant easy walk CARR MILL DAM, St. Helens. This is another local gem, so quick to get to and a nice easy stroll, rather than a full-on hike. Just off the East Lancs Road, set satnav for WA11 7LX, and lots of free parking off the main road. Good dry pathways so trainers will be fine, even I came out clean, (may be muddy in parts after lots of rain) and is reasonably accessible for pushchairs and lighter wheelchairs. Obviously a local fishing spot (private only) and brilliant for birdwatching and photography, especially at the northern end of the loop. You can't fail here!

Stunning natural beauty meets incredible engineering. A wonderful place to take the kids, walk the dog, or simply enjoy a good walk. Besides the lake, there is a cafe for refreshments, and forest covered walks. Whatever the weather, whatever the reason, this place is always a pleasure to visit.

Great place to explore and perhaps bike ride or walk the dog. This is a beautiful dam set just off the A580 between Manchester and Liverpool.

Absolutely beautiful place and fantastic for walking your dog, a full lap at a gentle pace is about 90 minutes, beware of the car park the charges are ridiculous and totally unnecessary just park courteously on the road way, I just wish the council would empty the bins once in a while.

Very enjoyable 45min walk around quite a huge expanse of water, varied wildlife; swans, Canada geese, heron, grebe. The odd bench to take a picnic. Grab a coffee overlooking the water at The Dam Bar & Grill or The Toby Carvery (and use the loo while you’re there as none elsewhere!) Limited access for wheelchair users

A man made lake that supplied water to the Sankey canal. Lots of lovely walks and a good starting point. Can be wet after wet weather.

A nice nearly 2-mile walk, I could have made it longer, lots of different ways to go. I got a brew in the LPBC club house at the end of the road.

Nice trail - looks popular for bike users. There are lots of spaces for fishing but they can double up as places to sit yourself. The Toby Carvery has loos and it easy to park near to without having to register your car. We saw grebe chicks and ducklings πŸ₯ it’s also a good place to pick blackberries.

This place holds childhood memories for me swimming in the dam at sandy bottom and having picnics with my family. Love walking around here with the dogs. And having a drink with friends. The boat house has events on over the bank holidays serves food and flood drinks. It’s a good laugh and nice to chill on sunny days

Plenty of area for a dog walk. If sticking to the dam it is about 40 minutes walk to get round at an easy pace. However there are paths out to increase the size of the walk if wanted.

Went to take and teach my grandson fishing after buying a permit and rod license. I was unaware of the algae bloom, so set up fishing. Apparently I was videoed by some unknown person who did not have the decency to walk over and tell me my mistake, and we were approached by a head bailiff who was very nice about it and recommended to fish at the canal which we did. I really think there should be more awareness of this issue because apparently Taylor Park and leg o mutton dam have the same problem.

This little beauty is tucked away behind the toby carvery, but is such a stunning little place to go for a peaceful walk with the dog. She loved it and some stunning photos to be had! Lived here 30yrs and never knew it was here!

Lovely woodland walk. Shame no boats or conoes ect on the lake seems such a waste

Carmill, it's pretty muddy this time of year, but still plenty to see. Keep an eye out for the kingfisher's and heron's along with lots of other wildfowl. See if you can spot any pheasants, especially the colourful male with its red and gold plumage and vivid Scarlett head.
