For a cheap hotel, this is quite good. The downsides are that the beds are pretty hard and the decor could use an update (tiled walls?). The upsides are that it feels very safe - it is in a quiet neighbourhood and, although it is a motel style with separate exterior doors, to reach the exterior doors requires a key to access a locked staircase. The rooms themselves are clean and seem very well maintained. The view of the lock, while it could not be called beautiful, was neat. I did not realize massive barges pass through the locks and it was interesting to sit on the roomโ€™s private balcony with a coffee at sunrise to watch that happen. Best of all was the customer service though. I stayed here as a rest stop from hiking the Bruce Trail and the person who checked me in saw my gear and offered me mineral water, which was very thoughtful. I would stay here again and recommend it to others. Would be 5/5 if the bed was a bit softer.

I needed a room for a night for business and reading about this establishment was intriguing. The hotel itself was a little tired but that was not the reason for my stay. The hotels rear is directly in front of the WELLAND CANAL!! That night I witnessed 2 ship tankers assessing the lock and that alone was worth the price of admission! Will definitely stay again!

If you like freighters, this place is Xanadu. If not, it's still a nice place to put your head down. The rooms are simple, but clean. The proprietor is super nice (and accommodating). And best of all, it is budget friendly. I just wish there were elevators to the upper floors (bad knees).

We enjoyed our stay very much. While dated in some ways, this boutique Inn is very clean and welcoming. The balcony provides an exceptional viewing of Lock 7 operations during the navigation season.

I stayed here for a night while I was hiking the Niagara portion of the Bruce Trail (south to north). It's one of the few hotels in Thorold and just 10mins off the trail. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the AC was ice cold. Also, the view of the ships going through the locks from the room balcony provided great entertainment.

Amazing place! Great view of the lock. Easy to check the live view of ships if you search Welland Canal live map. I enjoyed this roomuch more than the other hotels on your trip.

We have stayed there twice this season and love it. First time was to ride our bikes on the Welland Canals Trails. Second to ride the trail again and to golf. Excellent golf was nearby. Watching the ships in the canal is fascinating to watch. You wonโ€™t be disappointed.

Great to be able to watch the ships lock through first hand, from your patio room! Hotel very clean - not a design showplace. Beds were very hard! Bit of an inconvenience as the lobby/front desk (and any continental breakfast) did not even open until 7:30 a.m. Not good if travelers want to check out to leave fairly early mornings.

Great location which allowed us to walk to our event. the Inn is quaint bit overall the facility needs some serious upgrades. overall the rooms were comfortable and clean and price was fair. We stayed at fancy Inns at Niagara on the lake in the past and their Inns needed upgrading also but still charged 3 x the price per night. Watching the ships move through the locks was an added bonus. We will definitely use this facility in future

Booked this place for a one-night family stay at the last minute due to limited availability elsewhere. Came with low expectations, and they were exceeded in most regards. It is very low key from the outside, but the property is well cared for, clean and comfortable rooms with nice balconies overlooking the locks on the canal. Had toiletries and some other convenience elements that are now hard to find even at major hotel chains. Was quiet, despite being actually treated to a view of a large ship passing through the locks. One thing to note is very firm mattresses - we did not have any problem with that, but some might. Overall, I think this hotel is a solid choice for the area.

Amazing customer service, very friendly. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Amazing views. Will be returning again 100%. Highly recommend if you're looking for a spot. Only 15 mins from Niagara falls too. Thank you so much.

The location by the locks is beyond amazing and it was very cool to see so many freighters coming in and out. If gongoozling is your thing then you've come to the right place! That being said the rooms could use a bit of an overhaul and there wasn't a lot of water pressure in my shower during my stay, but it definitely didn't kill the experience.

We loved our stay! The proprietor was a lovely human and helped me with room assignment! We LOVED the boats! The room was so clean and incredibly comfortable. The beds were great and we slept so well. This is the best inn in Niagara and we will be back often!

This is a very clean but dated Inn. It looks over Lock 7 of the Welland Canal. My wife and I were on the top floor furthest on the end, and the internet signal was not reaching our room. Regardless, this is close to food, entertainment, and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ . I would stay here again.

Fantastic stay. The rooms are spacious and clean. The man at the front desk is super helpful. The winner here is the location. From viewing the ships going through lock 7 from your own balcony, or even through the big picture window from inside the room to all the amenities within walking distance. Walk a few blocks to town for some fantastic food. Walk a block to the lock 7 visitor viewing deck where you can get on the Welland Canal trail and walk or bike for miles/kilometers. We walked the 4 km to lock 3 and St.Catharines museum which is free admission. Another great experience. Love this hotel. LOVE this location.

Inexpensive motel. Rooms back onto the locks so ships go by all night. Kind of relaxing if you don't mind the hum of the engines. Makes for a unique view out the window from bed! Rooms dated but clean.

It's nice to watch the tops of the shipping ships go by. It's just a low budget hotel. Dirty floors in the hallways. Cement brick walls. Guests smoke a lot of weed that wafts into the room. It doesn't advertise as a fancy hotel, so it's decent enough.

This is a great little hotel right in the locks, all rooms have a rear view overlooking the locks. The rooms are average size and the place is very clean it's a older place but I'd stay there again!

Clean, comfortable room, close to shopping outlet mall. Watched ship in locks right outside room - fascinating!

Even thought I had called to reserve a ground floor room one was not available at check-in. I had to wait until the next day then change rooms. This was a serious issue for me with severe arthritis, hence the poor review. The rooms were clean and a decent size and could use a major refurbishment. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. The air conditioners worked but kept all the cold air in an alcove causing the room temperature to be an uncomfortable 2 to 4 degrees Celsius higher than the alcove which contributed to the uncomfortable sleep. The view of the was interesting and it was fun to watch the big lakers go through.

This Inn is amazing. Great for Boarnerds and others. The owner is too rare. He really looks after his customers. I would highly recommend this place. Thanks for everything.

The location of the Inn on Lock 7 is unbeatable. We were able to sit inside at our table or outside on our balcony and have a perfect close up view of many ships. Although the building looks like an old motor lodge, it was updated inside and spotlessly clean. The room size was generous. There was a coffeemaker and fridge. No microwave. Like most motels, there are never enough plugs, but I know to always travel with a plug strip with 3 outlets and 2 USB ports. There was free wifi. Overall, I loved it and would highly recommend it.

We stayed 4 nights while hiking pieces of the Bruce trail which runs close by. The passing of ships through the locks, which you can view from the small balcony was pretty entertaining. From the hotel there are a number of walkable restaurant choices, which was great. Yes, the decor is dated but I think it was very well priced for the comfort, convenience and service we received. I'd stay again. Maybe just bring a cooler of beverages and watch the shops go by instead of hiking 5 hours a day. Lol

An older style inn, the rooms were spacious and the balcony was much appreciated, looking out across lock 7. Air conditioning was a little weak, and the shower worked a little counterintuitively. Breakfast was a basic Continental breakfast, and the hosts were polite and helpful.

We just stayed for three nights at this hotel. Awesome location! My family and I LOVED the proximity to the canal and seeing all the ships go through. It is a one-of-a-kind place! We really enjoyed the individual balconies on our adjoining rooms and made a lot of use of them for canal watching. That said, this property needs some serious upgrades especially in the bathrooms. They are in very outdated and in rough shape, albeit relatively clean. Tubs are especially damaged and look dirtier than they actually are. WiFi barely works and needs to be improved. Housekeeping missed a number of things during our stay. We found pillows on the floor, for example. The surroundings had a strange earthy/organic smell like manure that was very strong. We could not figure out where the odor was coming fromโ€”perhaps not on the property at all but still noxious. The beds were fine and clean. No complaints there. There was a breakfast room with many interesting pictures depicting canal vessels and the innโ€™s history but was not operable due to construction. There was no breakfast offered to guests during my stay. This property has so much potential. The benefit to it being still rather rudimentary is that it is very affordable for families on a budget. All in all I would stay again because the experience is unique and overrides any inconveniences.

It is so neat to be right on the canal. The accommodations are more in line with an older motel, but if you're interested in the engineering feats of a canal, this is a great place to stay.

Room was clean. Staff very friendly. Asked for 3rd and we were accommodated with no problem. Room came with a fridge which came in very handy. We found the beds to be super hard. If it will be super hot for your stay, bring a fan. The A/C works great, but is by the bathroom so the cold air is kind of blocked. A fan will blow the air to the main part of the room.

Quaint, fascinating, unique spot. The owner is a gentleman and we keep going back.

We stayed at August 21,2021. The motel has very strong smell, no elevator. We could't even take shower because the bath has stains, the sheets weren't fresh so we put our towels. The A/C was very loud, we couldn't sleep well. The owner wasn't helpful. We'll never stay in this motel again.
