If you look up the word Hygge in the Danish vocabulary, you will find that it means: cozy, simple, familiar, intimate and fun. I do, however, not believe that the staff knows a single word of danish. A pretentious bunch of know-it-all’s, interacting with you as they are doing you a favour of even letting you on the premise. The food was good, but when it is served to you as you would not even understand its greatness it makes the whole ordeal a little less satisfying. I recommend they change name to a more fitting german one: Besserwisser.

What a great restaurant! Lovely decoration and style throughout the restaurant/bar. The food was great and having a wine expert there makes it easy to get the perfect wine for your dinner! There are plenty of parking spots but make sure you have reservation before showing up! Ask for a table in the back of the restaurant to avoid in winter the cold air in the entrance are. Great place for a nice meal!

Updated review 05/13/2019 Sadly we have decided to update our review since our last dining experience was horrible. Yesterday we had dinner 15:30-18:00 Our server was so so so unpleasant such unfriendly service, she was just not in a mood to work, she was extremely slow and we even thought she was avoiding our table since we many times tried to call her and she was just ignoring. The food was ok, not as great as usually.. really sad to have a bad experience at Hygge . It was one of our favorite restaurant in Hamburg and unfortunately I ll think twice before booking a dinner or recommending the Restaurant. (first review)Absolutely the best restaurant in the area! Service is great and the food is outstanding! Bar also serve great drinks. Could give 10 stars if possible!

Wonderful farm to table dining with an inviting hip contemporary vibe. Nice wine and cocktail selections. The menu was varied and included vegetarian options. Our family enjoyed steak tartare, Vienna style snitzel, pork cutlet, goat cheese appetizer and a fish dish. The fish was the absolute best fish I have ever eaten. Definitely a place to enjoy fine dining and our waiter was very helpful as he also spoke English. Loved the fireplace and the music, which was an avante garde jazz.

This was one of the best 5 course gourmet vegetarian food I have ever had. The food served was so unique in flavour and taste that I was amazed. Would go again for special days. Such a cozy and beautiful interiors too. One of a kind place. They have parking and it’s one of those places that has gotten multiple awards in gastronomy. Definitely recommended if you can booking here :)

Coooool - fantastic interior, great style, excellent choice of healthy and tasty, reasonably priced fine foods fast, and proper dishes. Scandinavian touch, or what Germans perceive as being Danish. Top Level all around, On weekend evenings please reserve at least three weeks in advance

Very nice hotel and restaurant in fancy Hamburg neighborhood. Pretty fairly priced.

Great, crowded and comfortable place. Good food to share and excellent service. Good for families with kids as one kids course is free when ordering a main dish.

Super nice food, beer and wine. We had a variation of bread upfront. There is a huge variation of starters - go an try yourself. As main course, I can recommend the fish soup. Really lovely place at all.

Excellent food in a nice setting, thoroughly recommended! We went to Hygge last night, 4 adults, one toddler and one baby. We were a bit unsure about the child-friendliness before, but we reassured by the staff upon booking that it was definitely not a problem. Turned out there were another 4-5 families with small and/or small-ish children there! First to comment on the quality of the food: fantastic. We all had different dishes, a mix from their regular menu (no tasting menus), and were thoroughly satisfied. Everything was perfectly cooked, seasoned and balanced. Also the childrens' food - I would not have been dissatisfied if I'd had my son's fish nuggets (small fish fillets with a crispy crust, served with potato purée and veggies) as a nice lunch, for example. It was a nice touch that many of the "adult" dishes could be served large or small, i.e. as a starter or main course. The prices were also definitely all right - with the quality of the food being what it was, I think it's fair to say that value-for-money is good. I would also like to commend them for having interesting non-alcoholic meal beverages available. There were several nice fruit juice-based beverages available which were definitely not just for kids. I had a lingonberry and tonka bean drink, which was slightly tart and not so sweet, and fit very nicely with my beef tartar. I'd wish more places took non-alcoholic beverages a bit more seriously! The staff was also very friendly, accommodating and professional. I only have a small remark, which is that as the place filled up with guests (we arrived rather early), the speed of the service slowed down significantly. It was lightning fast at first, and slower-than-average towards the end of the dinner. You could see the staff trying to keep up, and they were always equally professional, but it was still a bit annoying to wait quite long for our desserts (in particular since our son was getting tired). Hand in hand with this remark also goes that the place became somewhat noisy as it filled up as well. I think that it would be worth for them to spend some time and effort to install some sound absorber or diffuser in the ceiling, which I noticed could probably accommodate it. It would probably also be good for them to decrease the number of seats just a little, maybe by 6-8 or so. That would lower the sound level as well as allow the staff to keep up with service. Regardless, we did have a very nice evening and we would definitely like to go back if we get the opportunity!

I love this place, food is always outstanding, service is impeccable!! However your Beer list SUCKS bigtime!! Denmark is known for some of the most amazing craft biers available on this planet, yet you only serve standard boring local beer. Please consider adding more beer options (preferably Danish) to your menu and then you will be a truly amazing and complete Danish dining experience!!

Delightful experience. With 3 surprise dishes set you can go on a wonderful culinary journey - octopus, veal, beef and lots of textures and balance of flavours. Excellent service can only double proof that it is a worthy place to visit.

Very friendly and professional service. Food presentations were amazingly nice, food is soooooo delicious and special. Restaurant atmosphere is stylish. What I especially appreciated was that there was (for most of the menu items) the possibility of selecting either the small or the big portion. That let you try different dishes 👍 Worth every cent.

German modern food at its best. The drive to get there is worth for the wonderful houses in the neighbourhood. Architecture with style and simplicity. Better go with at least 4 people so you can share a bigger variety of gourmet experiences. Staff careful at all times.

Food looked way better than it tasted, but it was still good. 5 stars still as the atmosphere and service was fantastic! Would also be a great place for just a few drinks!

Coffee outside was mediocre, hefty price tag for bad service and confused staff. Had to wait 30 minutes for the receipt until we paid inside ourselves. Were left without a farewell. Might be better when dining inside.
