It's worth calling out the bad experience I had at breakfast during my stay at this hotel this weekend. Sunday morning I arrived 30 minutes before breakfast was due to finish at the makeshift breakfast room. I gave my room number to the waitress and asked for a tray so I could gather the few breakfast items and bring them to my room. There was an older man there, also a waiter I presume, he was bald with glasses, and the first thing he said to me when I walked in was 'You're late'. I was a bit taken aback and just politely told him there were still 30 minutes to go before breakfast would finish at 12pm. I am female. I am left wondering, would he venture saying this to an older male guest? Who knows? In any case it left a bad impression. The breakfast is really a miserable offering the poor service notwithstanding. Hard pieces of round bread, old blocks of cheese, croissants not even of the 1 CHF quality of supermarket croissants, not to mention that they didn't buy enough croissants in to serve everyone so there was nothing edible at breakfast on my last morning there apart from a few cereals and hard bread options. Only one kind of juice is on offer, orange, which was definitely not freshly pressed, and there were zero small chocolate desserts / biscuits. It's such a miserable and stingy offering for a hotel charging up on 200CHF per night. Staff were otherwise friendly though, esp the bar staff Monday night. Just the breakfast staff have to learn better manners and learn to be kind to guests, in particular that bald-headed chap. I won't return here again.

Our final dinner in Zurich was at @hotelrestauranthelvetia where we had a nice Swiss dinner. I chose the meatloaf while my husband chose the veal goulash. The meatloaf was a great choice. It came with a rich veal gravy which was really tasty. The meatloaf itself was moist and flavourful. The mash potato was smooth and the carrot well cooked. The goulash was also tasty however the meat to sauerkraut ratio was poor. There was very little meat in the dish. The spätzle served with it was a good accompaniment and tasted nice and buttery. For dessert we shared a cheesecake and a Helvetia Iced Coffee. The cheesecake was good but nothing outstanding. The iced coffee however was really interesting. It didn’t have any real coffee flavour but it had a creamy icecream topped with some Swiss chocolate and drizzled with pumpkin seed oil. I hadn’t seen pumpkin seed oil used in anything until this trip. I really like the flavour it adds to both savoury and sweet dishes. We were told this restaurant is closing for a while in a couple of weeks but it would be worth a try when they reopen.

Hotel Helvetia boasts an exceptional location, conveniently nestled near both tram and train stops, ensuring easy access to the city’s myriad attractions. The staff at Hotel Helvetia are not only friendly but incredibly helpful, always on hand to ensure your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The rooms, with their cozy ambiance, offer a warm and welcoming retreat after a day of exploring Zurich

We often come here with my sister, it’s a great location and a great service. The rooms are clean and minimalistic, furnished with great taste. The lounge is also so cool as well as the drawing room and the restaurant.

I was in Zurich for a week and decided to hotel hop. I went to 3 hotels in 4 days, until I found Hotel Helvetia. Once I checked in, I knew there was no getting better than this. The large amount of *space*, the natural light, the comfortable bed, the mini-fridge for leftovers, the "morning" (read: all day) breakfast, THE HEATED BATHROOM FLOORS. This hotel is IT. It's located in such a perfect spot, the staff is fantastic and the attached restaurant is delicious and super popular with locals. Please do yourself a favor and stay here. You won't regret it.

Stayed for a one night transit in Zurich. Had a pleasant stay. The room is small but adequate. Very clean and functional. Friendly and helpful receptionist. Had no problem with the noise (it was well damped). Didn’t get a chance to try the breakfast and the bar.

Very friendly staff. Convenient location. Very tiny room. The space for the elevator took up 30% of our room. Over priced. Needing to keep the windows open for cool air plus the very noisy street made for a long loud night. Breakfast not included.

Lovely stay during Christmas time. Pros: Friendly receptionist and we managed to check in early as our room was ready. Good medium room size and the floor for the bathroom is heated. Love that 2 duvets were given so couple need not share. Complimentary breakfast has a small selection but tasty spread. Good value at ~chf170 per night. Location is few steps to a train station and a tram station - central to all the places we visited. Cons: Not sure if it’s a Swiss thing but the pillows were too thin to support our necks. Request for 2nd pillow was not met due to the festivities. There’s a gap in the bathroom door when closed so it is not ideal if privacy is important. You could also hear the tram, people shouting and the cars at night so not the best for light sleeper.

Quite unique place with great service and quality food. Menu is not the biggest but in the it makes it easier to choose your food. Really enjoyed swiss made red wines.

Came here on a business trip. The rooms were OK but the bed was awful. Gave me very bad back pain. The toilet is OK but that sliding door does not give complete privacy. My partner was able to here every single water drop whilst I was in toilet. It is not sound proof at all. The small TV is useless. Might as well just take it out altogether. Customer service was good but overall I did not enjoy my stay. In between I decided to book a 5 star hotel nearby as my back was breaking. The mattress and the pillows were awful. Also the room wasn't as quiet. I found difficultly sleeping due to the tram noise. It literally vibrates the room. Won't be returning.

Good food and good service. Its a bit on the tighter side furniture-wise, meaning you could feel a bit packed in when its full.

Cosy hotel in the city centre, with good access to cafes and restaurants nearby. Toiletries are all organic and locally produced, and room is comfy, though basic. Lovely spot for meals and drinks downstairs, with an open terrace that overlooks onto the waterfront.

This is a cute boutique hotel. Great for short stays ie: weekend and or business trip. The pub/restaurant is attached to hotel by the same name is a lively place during the weekends with live music and wonderfully curated cocktails. The staff is outstanding- great customer service and friendly. For example: my spouse and i were in town for a weekend, since we are from Madrid, we forgot that kitchens closed early here. So trying to get a meal after our show ended at 1030PM, we opted to order Uber Eats- the staff allowed us to eat in the bar rather than take the food to our room. AND the bartender remembered our order from the night before— like i said— outstanding service - Thank you!! ;)

Great location, and very quiet rooms for such a busy intersection (the river outside provided white noise if you want that!). Efficient staff and very modern furnishings. Rooms were small but comfortable, and the restaurant/bar is busy at night with locals.

The hotel is next to a very loud road. The room didn't block out the noise, so I could hear every car and people partying outside. It was so loud, it felt like I was trying to sleep in a nightclub. If you need to rest I won’t recommend it. If u want to join the party maybe then this is a good place for u.

Excellent hotel! Nice rooms, great bar, terrific food and a nice terrace by the river. Everything you want in a stylish - but not wanky - package!!

Great schnitzel, expensive, even by Zurich standards. Fun atmosphere — was there while a live band was playing during Dia De Los Muertos.

I had lunch at the restaurant of the hotel. The food was delicious and the restaurant was nice overall. However, the staff could be friendlier, especially when I tried to pay with Twint and they freaked out. I'm not sure if I will go there again. Still, it is a good restaurant.

Went for lunch and had a lovely experience. Staff were helpful and available. The menu is ok and fulfilling! Terrace overlooking the river but not much to see! Food was fine , decent quality food.

The good - Very good location - walking distance to metro (1 min), tram(1 min), main station(10 min), old town(10 minutes) Glad we received earlier check in as we request in our reservation. The lady from the reception was so kind and explanatory! They booked us a trip for the same day we checked in! Make sure you book a "large room", as others are too small in my opinion. One of the best price options in Zurich downtown. Disliked - The noice isolation was poor. We heard the tram very clearly in our room which was on the 4th floor. It was a little hard to fall asleep as this was even after midnight. Very, very limited breakfast - for the price we paid..

Beautiful old building. Rooms are small but beautiful. Comfortable beds, well stocked bathrooms. Great service from the front desk. We did not get a chance to try the restaurant or bar, but the bar looked gorgeous. The location is great. Right next to a metro stop, easy walking distance to the train station and a very easy walk to major shopping and attractions. I highly recommend this hotel

I just had lunch today and I took the daily menu. It was OK, but the size of the portion was definitely too small. Also it could be a little bit more spicy

Overall good hotel. Nicely restored. We had one of the two large apartments. The only marring thing was a strange interaction at checkout with less than clear instructions.

A classic place in Zurich that has been really convincing for so many years. Great, stylish bar and a restaurant with very tasty cuisine. The hotel is also to be recommended. The rooms are all tastefully and timelessly furnished. If possible, reserve rooms facing the river. It's always a pleasure to return to this place.

Super great stay on this hotel. I discovered it searching pet friendly hotels in Zurich and luckily I came across this one. It's very beautifully design, functional and comfortable. The staff is super friendly and the location is perfect.

I visit Zurich with some regularity. Visited this hotel for the first time and immediately added it as my favorite. Especially the price and quality ratio. Lovely Hästens beds that I really have to buy at home soon. And you definitely don't have to take a hair dryer here anymore. They have a very thorough professional hair dryer of the Swiss brand Solis "Swiss Perfection" in the room. We are also going to buy for home immediately!!! Nicely central to the center, nice restaurants and coffee bars in the area. I definitely recommend this one!

Always a pleasure to stay. Comfy beds, nice rooms, high quality materials. Clean rooms and friendly staff. A hotel for those searching for something that isn’t a soulless chain hotel. Loved the tiny balcony overlooking the river. However: Avoid the rooms closest to the pool bar, e.g. first floor, as it can get louder in the evenings, if you want to get an early sleep.

Back in the 80's, the Helvti was that kind of gritty watering hole where you never knew who would be there or what would happen. Over the decades it's had different incarnations and has now evolved into a chic yet comfortable urban gathering place. There's a well stocked bar with comfortable seating and standing room for socializing. The lovely terrace directly overlooks the Sihl. Upstairs is a white tablecloth restaurant. There are only 4 main courses on the menu (with 2 specials) but they are prepared very very well. Overall, excellent service, normal prices, sophisticated ambiance. The only caveat is that it can be a bit loud - fun if you're in the mood, not so good if you're looking for a quiet refuge. Great place to meet before a movie at the Metropole or a night at the casino.

I was in the restaurant. Nice terrasse, very nice waiters, good wine card. The food was not bad. However, the potato salad and home made potato crisps did not seem fresh and proved difficult to digest.

Really nice Restaurants/ Boutique Hotel in Zurich! I have so far only had the pleasure of visiting the Bar and restaurant. Beautiful card with a very nice choice. The quality is also there, and the atmosphere that the place gives off is very pleasant. A place where you feel good and where you don't want to leave. The cocktails are also very well made and the signatures really surprised me, including the one with the Truffle. The restaurant also has a pleasant terrace on the edge of a small stream. Seen the photos of the rooms I really think to stay there, with very well chosen works of art that decorate everything. A place not to be missed.

There can't be a better place to stay in Zurich. Extremely convenient waterfront location, classic building, excellent service, and very comfortable modern accommodations. The attached restaurant is exceptional and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Walking distance from the train station and city center.

Very nice boutique hotel type. Perfect for a business trip or a weekend gateway. The food at the restaurant is also very good with a nice terrasse by the river. Highly recommend!

The hotel room was nice and cute but you could hear the tram outside and the curtains let in a little bit to much light for my taste. I think the 25chf for breakfast was a rip off. There were not a single warm option besides coffee/tea and very limited other options to put on bread. Industrial bread and juice. Even a breakfast at ibis budget is way better for a lower price. The restaurant looks cozy though. Answer to Helvetias message : yes I rated the hotel correctly. And the lady serving breakfast did not offer any warm egg dishes and there was no written sign about it either so how could one know? When I see your reviews I don’t seem to be the only one saying that the breakfast is not great.

I really liked this hotel the two times I was there. It is very well located, close to the city center and the train station, easy access, the rooms are of a good size and very clean, they offer nice products for example soap, shampoo and other things. The staff are always very friendly and helpful, they're willing to help and for example they changed the date of one of my reservations two times, which gave me a lot of flexibility to choose the best time to use it. It has an agreement with a very nice gym closeby to use their facilities and they were always happy to keep my luggage after the check-out time. I will go again for sure.

Very central location, close to the hbf. Beautifully decorated interior and very clean rooms. Friendly staff. Quite noisy if you open the windows. Wouldn't recommend the breakfast (small selection, bad coffee) All in all, we liked it a lot though

Nice hotel, well designed rooms, nicely located, breakfast is overpriced. I will come back. Stayed on business, and it was fairly convenient to move between clients. 10 mins walk from the main station which is important

Very good hotel and a geat way to start my 9 day/8 night trip to Zurich, Lucerne and Interlaken. Actually all the Swiss hotels chosen were excellent each offering not only superb overall standards but something special without being excessively hard on the purse...by Swiss standards!!! For me the Helvetia specials were... the high quality of fixtures and fittings, very stylish... the lovely little private riverside terrace for complimentary tea and coffee... being lodged in a well restored, atmospheric and intriguing old building and a most enjoyable breakfast on the restaurant terrace-with-flowering plants-and-river. Some magic here. Within walking distance of the sights...lake, lido and old town river banks of Zurich. A little off centre...one must make the most of this and in this case it was the Botanical Gardens just round the corner...a most delightful aromatic experience pre-breakfast on my second morning.

Food was very good, but I would have expected a more sophisticated at that price point. The cutlery don't work well with the plates. It's a detail but is super annoying (knife slipping in). The staff was very kind and the terrace is nice on the river. The music selection at the bar is not what I would expect from a place like this (loud and commercial). I will come back to have a look at the rooftop.

Central location, but on a very noisy street. Unfortunately there's no real Air Conditioning (except the mobile units, which require open windows), so you need to sleep with windows opened, which is hardly possible in such noisy areas. At the end we ended up with two (almost) sleepless nights Our room also was ridiculously small, we couldn't even fully open our large suitcase there.
