The
wow
factor
here
is
the
beer
garden
on
a
sunny
day.
Drive
past
The
Crown
and
it
doesn't
look
terribly
interesting
from
the
road,
but
walk
in
through
the
generous
car
park
and
enter
an
oasis
of
tranquility.
The
pub
has
one
of
the
best
beer
gardens
I've
been
in,
with
a
great
layout
of
widely
spaced
tables
and
benches,
with
a
scattering
of
deck
chairs
to
free-lounge
in.
I'm
guessing
it
must
get
really
busy
on
the
weekends,
as
there's
a
dedicated
outdoor
cooking
gazebo.
The
pub
was
refurbished
a
few
years
ago,
so
looks
neat,
tidy
and
modern.
This
is
a
Greene
King
pub,
so
don't
expect
good
beer.
On
tap
was
a
house
Best,
St
Austell
Tribute,
Green
King
IPA
and
Abbot
Ale,
all
being
some
of
the
worst
"beers"
imaginable.
(Easy
to
cellar,
which
was
s
why
they
have
them).
At
least
there
was
some
decent
lager
on
offer
in
the
form
of
Asahi,
Estrella
Damm
and
Peroni.
There
is
an
extensive
menu
of
pies
and
standard
pub
fare,
sadly
nothing
that
really
shouts
"quality"
or
"awesome".
The
vegetarian
pea
and
mint
risotto
was
modestly
portioned,
well
dressed
and
filling,
but
there
was
no
pizzaz;
scampi
and
chips,
"meh"
though
the
chips
were
lovely
and
crispy;
a
margerhita
pizza
that
was
bigger
than
a
small
child,
so
top
marks
on
that
one
for
value
for
money.
In
all,
the
epitome
of
higher
prices
for
mediocre
food,
so
room
for
improvement.
