It really was a wonderful experience. As a Stellenbosch University alumnus, the visit took me back many years. The use of the old school for this purpose was a good idea as it is practically part of the University Campus. The conversion of the building into the museum was done beautifully. Something to be really proud of.

A most interesting glimpse into early life in Stellenbosch. The four houses are well kept and presented. I was fascinated with the list of names of the freed slaves, it would be so interesting to know if they have descendants still living in the area.

Oh wow, didn't expect this jewel, stunning range of exhibitions, which are free, well-curated and very well maintained, in an awesome old Victorian building, another plus is the fact that one is free to take photos inside as well, just lovely and well worth an hour of one's time.

This museum is NOT where Google thinks it is, next to the Kruithuis! It is actually across the road from Stellenbosch 360, the tourism office. This is a set of 4 house museums, taking you from 1710 to 1850 in Stellenbosch history. Well worth a visit ... just don't look for it next to the Kruithuis!

The University museum embodies the rich history of the town's schools, as well as the Stellenbosch University, with breathtaking architecture and new themed art on display almost every week. Highly recommend a visit.

Was a very interesting visit. I got to learn more about the university and there was a lot of lovely artwork. There was also a place where one could be creative and draw pictures. That could have only be there for a limited time. Would highly recommend if you love history

This 8s such a marvel of the activities in and around Stellenbosch. It offers art and history alike, and in a fairly large quantity for a town like Stellenbosch. The architecture is also very beautiful, being of the old Victorian and Dutch standard. It's setting is very central in Stellenbosch, and it is in the dreamy Ryneveld street, which also offers coffee shops and the shade of beautiful oak trees. The art of the museum changes every now and then, so of you went before, it's going to be a new experience to go again.

They have an amazing, thought inspiring collection of art work from a variety of South African artists. The exhibitions change regularly and you can either spend 30 mins for a quick tour or stay 1 - 2 hours if you want to immerse yourself and learn more about the artists. During the annual "Woordfees" festival entrance is free

Very interesting and varied exhibitions celebrating the history of Stellenbosch University from the early days of Victoria College. Some great artefacts of bygobe times. Wonderful African art on display but personally would like to see more variation regarding South Africa's other cultural groups.

The tour through the various houses is eye-opening. The guides do a splendid job of painting a picture of life in those houses, while communicating the significance of each item on display. They really know their stuff!

Quite interesting.. only reason I rated it 3 stars is because I'm not a fan of museums (the piano in the picture I found most interesting)

A well-designed complex of museums that offer fascinating insights into the early years of Stellenbosch. Atmospheric and intriguing, the households offer a fine way to while away an hour or two in the dorp.

    Holds some interesting art.

I last visited the museum a long time ago. There has been a change in fashion. The ladies in the different house were helpful and knowledgeable and there were few visitors so we could ask lots of questions. Nothing was labelled as to its origin, paintings had nothing to say who they were of, what their connection was to the house etc. Yet there were accession numbers scattered around and clearly visible. I guess its the modern fashion to leave people to infer everything. Very disappointing
