Ask for a guided tour of the museum to ensure you get to know the full history of the town! What a great experience we had to get someone showing us around and explaining the history and lifestyle of the settlers in full detail! Was the best experience we had a a museum in a longtime other than just wondering around museums and looking at antiques. There are the most amazing garden at the back where you can relax and take in the beauty of mother nature! Superb. Def a MUST see upon your visit to Stellenbosch.

Very nice and sweet. A series of four refurbished homes from different eras. Each house with many pieces of old furniture and decorations. Many antique artifacts of life on display. History comes alive. Doesn't take long but worth it.

This is a fantastic preservation of multiple eras of building across the history of the town from founding into the 19th century. As well as a history of the area from pre-colonial times. The buildings and gardens are carefully restored and cared for in an ongoing basis as well as presented by docents at every stop on the self guided tour. Definitely don't forget to bring some smaller currency to reward the hard work of their docents who dress to the period of their stop on the tour and are very welcome to any questions about the history. I really enjoyed my visit.

What a way to experience history. You walk through the ages and learn more from knowledgeable staff dressed in period appropriate outfits. You can really appreciate the different architectural styles of the various houses and you can have a nice stroll through the gardens. Great if you are a student as you get to experience this at a discount.

The people that is in the houses does not give enough info, nor do they interact with the guest enough. The lady at the first house said she is tired and her voice needs a rest. Beautiful place though

Experienced guides with detailed information of what daily life was like in Stellenbosch a few centuries ago. The houses are kept in excellent condition. If you like to learn about the history of towns, this is a great way to connect with Stellenbosch. Only R50 entry fee.

A step back in time. Very friendly, knowledgeable guide at each house dressed in period costume. A "must" for anybody interested in what life was like 200/300 years ago. The only negative is the fact that the guide cannot possibly spread herself around to every visitor present. It would be helpful if a pamphlet could be handed out at each house reflecting the history of the house and family who lived there etc. Also there are so many items one cannot identify. The pamphlet could show the outlay of each room with a description of the various items on display so that one does not have to attempt to find the guide for an explanation of the items. All in all a very satisfying and interesting outing - to be recommended.

Our tour guide took us here. It was pretty neat seeing the old houses of the original settlers. I especially liked the vertical piano.
