Probably a cliché to call this an urban oasis but it is. Once you entered the garden, you can hardly hear the outside noise and with the many shady corners, it is easy to understand why there are always people around. The garden has a diverse collection of plants and I love seeing the garden change with the seasons. It is very peaceful and someplace we regularly return to. Intrigued to see what the new flowerbeds at the Neethling street entrance will look like once completed.

R15 entrance fee into this small but very well organised botanical garden. There is a pathway to follow and visit every informative tree, bush and shrub (the information is about the actual living entity). There is also a restaurant in the centre which makes for a nice quaint place to visit with friends or family. All in all a very well preserved piece of land.

As a student of the university, this is the perfect place to be especially when work and stress is overwhelming. As someone that enjoys and is fond of nature, this place is such a rich place in exquisite flora from various parts of the world as well as South Africa's wonderful flora. The staff and security are so welcoming and very helpful, be sure to pop into the shop and you will be blown away by how many wonderful and wide range of organic products as well as plants they sell ! Take your time to unwind here or simply stroll through, you will definitely feel much better. You can also enjoy a nice meal or snack at the restaurant, what's better than food surrounded by beautiful greenery ? Visitors and Students please ensure to keep the place clean, safe and do not litter! Have fun 🌍

Our visit to the Botanical Gardens in Stellenbosh was lovely! It is so peaceful there, you actually can't believe you're just next to the road. There is a restaurant in the centre of the garden, that will definitely be on my list for my next visit. You can have a picnic on the lawn as well, perfect for a date🤗. The entrance cost was R15, and free for our little one. Highly recommend going if you want to escape a bit!

It was a very interesting garden with many rare vegetation species not found in my country. Although small in size, the garden was full of rare species, glass houses, aquatic plants, a café, and a store.

Great variety and beautifully kept gardens. So relaxing to walk through the whole garden and then you end up at the bonsai garden and little shop with cute things. The coffee shop is nice for a little tea break. The cactus garden and the green house are also very cool and the different kinds of water lilies amazed me.

Amazing botanical garden. It's small in size but has the most diverse collection of plants. The bonsai display is a treat to any bonsai enthusiast. Will come again in Spring.

Small but lovely garden with good selection of gifts at the shop. When you have time after lunch or before dinner, strongly recommend to go in for a stroll.

Lovely oasis on a hot autumn day. Restaurant was busy but after a 10 minute stroll we came back and got a table under the shade of a big tree. Prices were very reasonable. The girls ordered scone, muffin and carrot cake. Boys had egg breakfast. The garden has lots of nooks and crannies tucked away on windy pathways surrounded by luscious vegetation. With plenty of benches tucked under trees for a little quiet contemplation. Variety of bonsai trees is amazing.

Had a lovely time walking through the garden. Lots of different kinds of flora to see with benches situationed throughout the garden to just sit and soak in the beauty.

Very tranquil however a lot of the plants were dead or in the process of dying. It has been awfully hot so I wasn't surprised. Restaurant very nice though

In the heart of Stellenbosch you will find the Stellenbosch University Botantical Gardens. The diverse vegetation in the gardens is amazing and there are numerous paths exploring different areas spread throughout where you can take in the beauty, learn about the different plant species and even bring a picnic to enjoy there. When we visited the entrance fee was R 15.00 per person which is very budget friendly and as they are open every day of the week, excluding certain public holidays, there is no reason to not visit even just for a quick walk around. The Katjiepiering Restaurant (reviewed separately) is also located within the garden and is a good option to grab breakfast or brunch. Whether you are a couple wanting to go for a romantic walk, a family with kids or even on your own, this is a great place to spend some time and take in the natural surroundings.

Since student days this was part of my life, and now I bring my kids here now and then. I don't know if it is the construction or the season, but today the garden looked worse for wear and simply neglected. Plants had diseases, snails, worms and other pests clearly had their innings, dead leaves and stalks everywhere, ponds dirty and in full algal bloom, or empty. It used to be such a beautiful, well maintained place. What's happening, Stellenbosch University?!

Visited on Sunday, 23rd October. Was very disappointed in the general state of the garden. To me it doesn't look like it's being cared for. Messy flower beds, ponds were dirty no flowing water. Everything looked scrappy. In the greenhouses some succulents were dying. I see some construction going on, hopefully to improve things. Have been here often over the years but never seen it so neglected.

Entry is R15pp for non Stellenbosch varsity students. A lovely little garden. We walked here from our accommodation as everything is so close. The Bonsai garden was truly spectacular! Great place.

Please raise the entry fee!!!!!!! I went to the gardens today and they are spectacular, especially the water plants, the succulents, and the cacti. What a wonderful place and a wonderful addition to a visit to Stellenbosch. It's a magical place. But I paid R15 or about 0.80EUR to enter. I would have gladly paid R50-100 and that money could help fund the garden. Please consider raising the entry fee to get the funds for the garden (at least for foreign visitors).
