We stayed 2 nights (Sat/Sun) and it is a hotel with character in the old town and really convenient for restaurants. Saturday night was really busy as it is a popular wedding venue and they have nice grounds for that. The hotel does stop the music at midnight and there doesn’t seem to be any afterward noise from wedding guests. We were in room 311 ground floor at the end of the hotel and the car park exit barrier keypad was less than 1.5m from our bedroom window and door. Nobody seemed to know the code and as they shouted to others across the car park with engines running it was intrusive to our enjoyment of the room. We complained and asked to be moved at 1530 hours but all rooms had been checked in so it was a no, but possibly on Sunday? The woman on reception was professional and appeared to try to change rooms but the woman in the back office was rude and shouted that we have never had any complaints from that room. Maybe typical English stoicism- it’s only a night 🤔. They did raise the barrier at 10pm so that did make a difference. Sunday night was much quieter and we weren’t moved but the same carry on with the barrier code started again at 0600hrs on Monday morning. The fan in the bathroom didn’t work, nor did the telephone but the night manager walked round to tell us that he was raising the barrier. No servicing of rooms on 2 night stays but can request it. We did, but nothing happened, so I had to trot to reception to get new towels and toilet roll. Breakfast on Sunday is a bit of a bun fight with all the wedding guests even at 0830 hrs. Monday a bit more relaxing and adequate.

Travelled from Ireland with my mam to stay for 3 nights for a wedding. What an amazing hotel. From the food , drink, prices, staff to the rooms, everything was fabulous. They treated our group so well and staff were so friendly. They went above and beyond to do what they could to make our stay enjoyable. What a fabulous weekend. The wedding meal and afters food were spectacular. The decor in hotel is beautiful and really in keeping with history of building. We had a fantastic time 👌

Beautiful hotel, with comfortable rooms. A little dark in places wall lights a bit dim, but window made it mostly bright during day. Much bigger carpark than you think, just remember its one way.

My stay was absolutely wonderful! The staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, the room was spacious and clean, and the amenities were top-notch. I especially enjoyed the on-site restaurant, which served delicious food.

I went there after a funeral in one of side rooms and they were fine until we were told we had to go into main bar as they had a wedding reception to get ready for, a bit of thought wouldn't have gone a miss especially as there it was after a funeral so not very considerate.

Great value for money. The room and the bathroom were spotless. Very comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. gave me a fridge upon request. The bathroom shower gel and handcream are lovely. The restaurant attached to the hotel is neither expensive or inexpensive, however, the food is lovely. The staff are fb with kids and there's a children's menu. A car park is attached to the pub/hotel. The location of the Cromwell is good. Old Town Stevenage does not disappoint; there's plenty to do, restaurants, shops and supermarkets. Also it's very central. My only issue is the walls must be paper thin, I heard everything another guest used the toilet and what they were doing. That aspect was not nice i would stay here again but in a different room.

Went here for a work conference. Being new, I didn't want to request specific food, but there were plenty of vegan options and it was all delicious. The room was nice and the staff working hard in the background. Lots of parking too.

In essence - never again! The rooms are OK , modern and clean. However they are BOILING HOT and the walls are paper thin - you can hear complete conversations through the walls. The breakfast - it was ok. Not very hot , just warm, but acceptable. The staff - ignorant, rude, stuck up. There was an elderly man who fell down the stairs in front of them whilst carrying his breakfast... They DID NOTHING!! Just stood and watched whilst other guests helped the male. Once the male was back on his feet, only then the staff walked over - and all they done was clean up the food mess on the floor. Reception staff member with the massive lips and obnoxious holier than thou attitude is seriously stuck up. Could care less about customers and was heard bitching about some other guests. Positive though - a good location with ease of access to Stevenage old town and new.

Overpriced rubbish. Bar man couldn't be bothered serving us and clearly didn't want to be there. Room wasn't cleaned after we left for the day and evening despite leaving the sign on the door asking them to. Also wasn't properly cleaned when we originally arrived judging by the condom I found in the wardrobe. Avoid!

Visited its Rump and Wade bar/brasserie. Decent bar with outdoor seating and a good choice of drinks. The hotel is well positioned on the High Street and the bar has an happy hour.

Hotel was lovely, staff great, but the bed was a very small double, you could not turn over without hitting each other. My husband is 6ft 3, his feet stayed out the bed the whole night, as he couldn't bend them in, as there wasn't enough room.

Lovely room, stayed in the Naseby suite. Great location, everything on the same road within walking distance.

We had our wedding here 05.05.2023 and couldn’t recommend it enough! From the moment we booked the venue right up until the big day, the staff were so supportive and helpful. The day ran so smoothly and the guests loved the venue too! The staff were amazing during the evening too and we couldn’t be more grateful. The only downside was that the in house DJ we booked unfortunately didn’t receive our playlist prior to the event, but he did his best to play what he could and the Bridal Suite was incredibly hot, which did make sleeping and getting ready quite difficult. Thank you to all of the staff at The Cromwell for making our day so special!🤍

Nice room, although not good for a disability as there were stairs inside the room with a separate lounge. The room was upstairs. This should be stated online when booking as I though I was just getting a room. However, the guy on reception was really lovely and helpful. It's a nice place to host a wedding as that's what we were there for.

Gorgeous rooms and building. Adjoining brasserie not bad but service for breakfast feels very disorganised with people walking in from front and sitting down etc, need clearer signs and instructions once you get (for example being told how to order veggie items) as feels a little chaotic. Friendly service though.

We had an unfortunate experience with the heating in one of our rooms. I was delighted by the fact that the hotel management responded to my complaint. We appreciate the hotel is an old building which is part of why we chose it, but a word of advice if you do get a room which is unbearably hot, I suggest that you get the hotel to check it out.

Average accommodation, room could have done with a dusting. My room was facing main road which was very busy so didn't sleep well. Staff that checked me in were not very friendly. Disappointing that no hot food was available after 6pm after travelling all day. Breakfast room staff were lovely. Overall, nice comfortable hotel, nothing outstanding but good location.

Staff could be more cheerful and helpful. Didn't receive a warm welcome and the walk from the car park to reception is not disabled friendly. Food was excellent but my mattress was not comfortable at all, disturbing my sleep

Stayed for 2 nightsLarge hotel with small rooms .Breakfast staff outstanding. I complained regarding noise both to reception and online, and I am still waiting for a reply . No acknowledgement of receipt of complaint. I won't be staying there again.

Great location. Unfortunately we had a room below a herd of elephants who had very heavy feet, stamping about their room until after midnight and then again at 5am. Breakfast, coffee poor, mushrooms were still covered in moss. Staff were grumpy and unhelpful. Check out took ages as receptionist was on the phone, no how was your stay or anything. Just "all done".

We love staying here. All staff are friendly, happy and helpful. Excellent room size, clean white bedding and towels, good size bathroom. Buffet breakfast was very good, would cook you freshly cooked fried/poached eggs if you asked. Easy and quick check in/out. Good size parking area around the back. Looking forward to our next stay.

A little dated but obviously well used, great parking. If you don't have a room with a door leading onto the car park it can be quite a trek to reception or restaurant. No lift....

Nice hotel clean throughout. Good breakfast. Friendly helpful staff. To many stairs for me though that's the only negative.

Would have had a higher review but reception staff were quite rude to me. If I mention there are only 60 chairs and not 80 set out fot a wedding, I dont expect to be told "have you checked the WHOLE ROOM". When I said yes, the receptionist huffed and puffed and stomped to the room setup for the wedding and said, you will have to wait a few hours OKAY! Totally rude and uncalled for being as I was polite at all times. The room looks amazing. Shame they feel event decorators need to work with no lights on! Very nice room for events and functions. I nearly gave this 3 stars but ended up changing to 4 stars as another receptionist on collection of our items hired out for the wedding was quite friendly and polite. Also on average after dozens of events setup here, the staff are quite polite.

Stayed for just one night at the Cromwell. Check in was ok, but when we got to our room couldn’t turn the radiator on, only one bath and hand towel in the bathroom. Small table wasn’t worth having, as it was crooked, so couldn’t put anything on it. We asked if the heating was on, to be told they couldn’t heat the whole hotel and was given an oil filled radiator. Hotel staff were polite so can’t fault them. Room was clean with a comfy bed.

This a really nice hotel. It’s nicely decorated, the staff are friendly and the rooms are lovely. I especially liked the bathrooms and the comfy beds. They also provide a nice brand of shower gel, shampoo, hand wash and moisturiser (noble isle). The rooms are cosy. The downside is that there isn’t great noise insulation. So, you’ll be able to hear any loud music from the bar, voices outside, the corridors and other rooms. The air circulation also isn’t great. This means the windows in winter get very wet with condensation and there’s some signs of very mild mould around the window. The food is pretty good, but not absolutely amazing. I felt that packaged dinner tables, for the price paid, could’ve come with a bottle of wine to share. The live music was also unreasonably loud (between 90 to 100 decibels according to my Apple Watch) which wasn’t really conducive for good conversation and potentially harmful. It was unfortunately so loud, that I felt I had to retreat to my room to protect my hearing. That said, the place was decorated nicely for Christmas and I would probably come back here for a dinner, but probably not for a business trip for instance.

Stayed whilst visiting relatives. Lovely clean room. Ensuite facilities were excellent. The shower was amazing!!! Great parking on site. Breakfast was lovely. Just wish we had known they served fried eggs or poached eggs to order as that was my husbands only complaint 😳😂 Thanks for a great stay. Will definitely be back next year x

Great location for Stevenage right on the old town high street with plenty of great venues for the even food or drinks with the bar in the hotel also doing good food and a decent beer. The staff are always nice and happy to help. The rooms are nicely finished. Quite chic with different touches in some rooms. The single rooms can be on the small side but perfect if you just need a bed for the night on your own. Make sure you talk to the hotel if you have accessibility issues as there are a few flights of stairs to get to most rooms and round a maze of corridors. It's not a problem it just comes with the age of thee building and I'm sure the staff will make sure you stay is perfect just reach out before you get there.

This is a lovely hotel in the Old Town area of Stevenage. We went there for a wedding and it was a beautiful occasion. The rooms are comfortable, clean and well decorated. I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in the area

The bathroom was really clean and beautiful, the beds were really comfortable. There was an ironing board, a hairdryer and a safe. Also, there were coffee/tea facilities, tissues and toiletries. The location is super great as there is a mini supermarket literally across the road, there are lots of cafés along the street and you can buy and do everything you need not even leaving the street where the hotel is located. BUT!!! We were there on those days of extreme heat and there was a fan which didn't really help. We could open the window only for 20 cm as there were roof tiles which blocked the window from opening. It was really, really hot and the air was stuffy. There was no fridge or mini bar. We had to go through long corridors in order to get to the room and there was no lift. The last but not least, we forgot our chargers in the room and shortly after leaving contacted the hotel. But they claimed there were no chargers in the room. Anyway, I'm 100% sure we forgot them there as later I checked my baggage and there were no chargers. That's a shame that this hotel doesn't value its reputation. So, guys, DON'T FORGET ANYTHING IN THIS HOTEL AS YOU WILL NEVER SEE YOUR THINGS BACK AGAIN!

Recently stayed whilst visiting family. Everything from check in to check out was wonderful. The staff were really welcoming and the room was really comfortable - amazing bed! Had dinner in their restaurant which was lovely and great value. The private car park was an added bonus! Won't bother looking at any other hotels in Stevenage now I have found the Cromwell!

This has to be the best hotel in Stevenage. It’s perfectly located in the High Street if you’re going there for a night out and it’s not too far to walk to the train station, but it also has plenty of parking. The rooms are all decorated in a really tasteful way and it’s always a nice experience staying there. I’ve been to a wedding there in the past which was lovely and I booked afternoon tea for a group of us last weekend. Even though we hadn’t paid for a function room, we were given our own area so we had some privacy which was really appreciated. The food was lovely and just the right amount and the waiting staff were really attentive. It was the perfect venue and I can’t thank everyone enough for all their help!

We stayed at this wonderful hotel for 3 fabulous nights, we also had our wedding reception here and from checking in to checking out we had no problems.. Everyone was so helpful and friendly and honestly couldn’t do enough for you.. The food was fantastic and plentiful.. service was top notch.. and rooms was fantastic… we had a few rooms for our wedding guests and each room was lovely. The events team members were fantastic and delivered great service ( I would like to mention Lina & Megan) both ladies went above and beyond and communication was second to none! Thank you for a wonderful stay!.

The staff was very helpful in finding a solution for my stay. I had to switch rooms but both were great, in size and facilities. Food was good and the location is perfect with restaurants and shops in walking distance. The room at the front was just above the terrace, so a bit noisy at times.
