Absolutely disgusting hotel I would never recommend anyone stays here. The rooms are filthy and staff are very rude to you. Having said that, you are lucky and won’t be able to book this awful place for at least a year as it’s yet another one that’s block booked by Serco..!

Rude and entitled Karen working as the reception manager. She kept saying that the hotel is fully booked although I had a confirmed booking. I had to insist four times before she checked my information and gave me a room. I asked for an upper floor and more quiet room and she kept yelling that the hotel is fully booked. Turned out that she gave me the noisiest room in the entire hotel. Had to come back, ask for a refund, and leave in stress.

The hotel has been taken over in order to house asylum seekers for the foreseeable future. The security guard would not answer my questions or let me inside so we had no idea when we turned up why were not allowed to stay. We booked this hotel 2 weeks in advance and the hotel did not have the curtesy to let us know that we could not stay there anymore. The receptionist was very unhelpful and would not come to the door to talk to me in person. We ended up having to find alternative accommodation at 3pm which was more expensive and with no apology from the hotel.

Very run down. We stayed on the top floor and the stair carpet taped to the floor. The lock was almost off the door and a security chain was in place which doesn't instill you with confidence. Bed hard as nails. It's cheap but there's not really an alternative. I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend it.

This establishment drives a need for a 0 star function on Google reviews. On arrival we buzzed at the door and were told they were closed and not accepting people in despite us having a confirmed booking (and that they had turned away lots of people already today). They were not interested in seeing our booking confirmation and would not let us come in out of the cold in order to work out where we were going to spend the night now that we were stranded. Zero care or effort - customer service was awful. We saw the mixed reviews and thought it can’t be that bad but it was worse. Thank you to Travelodge for sorting us in the end - cheaper and much better service. Don’t book.

Was very surprised at how good the room was for what we paid. Very affordable, large with high ceilings and enormous bathroom. Losing stars because of how poor the breakfast was, 20 pounds for 2 people, would have expected much better. Better to get food elsewhere rather.

What a shame they haven't looked after this beautiful old building. Our room was basic with broken furniture and a lot of mould around the rotting windows. My husband had to fix the TV to get it working There was a problem with thick dust, even in the mattress which housed a moth infestation. There was no non slip mat for a very slippery bath and no bath mat for a tiled bathroom floor. Although advertised as dog friendly the only place for the dog to spend a penny was a rubbish strewn overgrown car park with nowhere to dispose of the poo bag. The female receptionists didn't even acknowledge me for some time whilst I stood in front of them. One was on the phone to someone, repeated her message several times before pulling a face and hanging up, the other simply ignored me. I was then forced to pay even though I said I'd already paid. This was immediately refunded. No directions offered to locate the lift or our rooms. Happily the subsequent male receptionists were both lovely. The location was central , with free car parking but would I stay again? Absolutely not as I value my health.

My 10 year old son and I had to live in this hotel due to an unfortunate private rental housing issue (bad landlord, poor and dangerous state of rented property) We were sent to a different hotel at first but it was completely horrendous and inappropriate so were relocated here and immediately, as soon as we walked through the door at around 8pm we were made to feel welcome & comfortable which was extremely important to me considering the situation we were in and the previous hotel we'd come from! We were given the key and shown to the room. The staff couldn't do enough for us! The room was lovely and clean, with all of the amenities you'd want! (All of which were absent in the first hotel we stayed in) the ensuite bathroom/shower was an impressive size ! & was again, lovely and clean! very well lit with help from the large mirror which had bulbs all around it. There's lifts that actually work! to help those who can't manage the stairs or just as a safety aspect for carrying your luggage. There's 24 hour reception assistance and there's also an in-house restaurant serving breakfast and dinner and there's a separate room which I believe serves alcohol (I didn't use this room so I'm not entirely sure) The hotel is directly opposite Stoke train station and you're in close proximity to many of the Cities towns, so it's in a really good location for 'getting around' .. the University is just around the corner, literally the next street.. and the college is also nearby! We were here for approximately 6 weeks and the service never wavered! Really happy.

Reasonably priced. Room and toilet was clean. Reception was poor, the women at the desk is not interested in helping me check in at all. Hallways and other communal areas stink. If you had to buy breakfast separately it’s 11 pounds and the breakfast was ok at best the coffee was instant coffee. The breakfast is not worth more than 4 pounds in my opinion.

I cannot say anything bad about the location. It is extremely close to the city centre and is directly opposite the train station. The staff are not very friendly. It felt like they were just there because they wouldn't get paid if they were not there. The night service was terrible. Modern hotels usually have a way that you can scan yourself in (or have more staff). However, there appeared to be only one night staff and he was doing security rounds. Therefore leaving guests trapped outside. The rooms are okay for what you pay. An improvement would be free WiFi. The rooms could do with more plug sockets and the floor is extremely squeaky. You get what you pay for and it is affordable.

Can't understand why people are slating this place. The double room we had was massive. Lovely and clean big clean bathroom. Plenty to eat at breakfast for a reasonable price. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We would go back.

We stayed one night to be near a medical appt for my daughter the next morning, saving us a 2 hour drive. Staff were very pleasant and helpful during our stay. Rooms were large and comfortable. We booked a double room, but this was so much bigger than any double I've stayed in before. Yes it's an older hotel, but it was kept to a high standard of cleanliness. It had a cosy feel about it too. Just what we needed.

Very comfortable. Large room, comfortable beds and good bathroom. The decor is rather outdated, but that's no problem. Excellent location opposite Stoke Station. Nice hotel bar too.

The hotel could do with a lick of paint 🎨, and a good clean in places. Did have a few issues like the door allowing light through the room and how noisy the place was, the walls are paper thin and could hear other guests. The room wasn't bad for 48 per night and wasn't anything special.

Beds are clean as is the bathroom. Yes dated and not anything fancy. But did the job. Right oppsite the train station so great for what we needed. Staff all friendly and helpful. Rooms clean just not anything fancy. We enjoyed our stay x

Looks impressive from outside but looks can be deceiving. Booked purely for location - near university - checked in & was given the wrong key for the room. Back to reception & was given another key for another room. Went to that. Well, all I can say is it was grim. Bathroom - just a shower - plus side where the towels were extremely white & there was additional ones in the wardrobe with extra pillows too. Website said hairdryer in room...no there wasn't. Off down to reception again where we were given a brand new one. Tea/coffee making facilities - no spoon. Stayed for 5 nights. Room wasn't cleaned in that time. Would I recommend - probably not. Shame really as the building is impressive but it's in dire need of a complete refurb.
