We discovered this area by a friend, although it’s less than 10 minutes from our home. We visited the area twice and walked through different trails. It’s a beautiful beautiful place. I plan to go there multiple times and discover more trails. Be cautious where you park! We parked in Lower Sheep Fold parking lot on a Sunday after 7:00 pm, and we got a notice! So if you plan to go there, park your car before dusk. The top part of the Middle Reservoir was closed as in the 5th of June 2022 but you could easily take the detour and go to the woods again. There was some bike loops trails. Also, in South Reservoir areas we saw a deer. Another place we visited was in s border Rd, we parked in the South Dam Rd parking lot without any limitations and took a walk through the area. It was magnificent. I extremely recommend it.

Great place for hiking and biking. Trails are clearly marked and it's mostly clean, with the exception of a plastic bag here and there--consider taking some trash with you home, leave it better than you found it, or at least the same!

Lovely place to come and walk. Many miles of trails. Most dogs are well behaved, but some are not. People are not great at keeping their dogs leashed on the trails. Cyclists are supposed to be restricted to certain trails but I've seen several on the Skyline Trail.

A great spot for a light to medium hike, suitable for people who don't usually hike. It has more "walking" areas, almost flat, going by the water, as well as little hills, and even tiny "cliffs" to climb on. Major bonus: very close to the city. It's generally dog-friendly, but there are a few spots with broken glass — for which I hope whoever left it there gets the karma they deserve

I absolutely love the fells! There a various kinds of paths available, most ability/skill levels and kids could find something their speed. I've seen deer, woodpeckers and a bunch of other birds and other great nature views- including some ponds. There are a bunch of different access points, most with free parking, I've also seen a lot of people mountain biking, running and walking dogs etc.

Very pleasant walk. They offer kayak or canoe rental. I didn't see a restroom. The house that looked to have information and possibly a restroom was locked (mid day weekday). We enjoyed the walk very much.

Generally a great spot for a hike. Trail heads are accessible with a short walk from the T. Most trails are pretty flat and easy to follow making it family and dog friendly. I went along the Cross Fells trail and really enjoyed the foliage, though it does cross three reasonably busy roads so use caution at those intersections. Beyond that the reservoirs and trees are beautiful and a nice change of pace when getting away from Boston’s urban center.

Gorgeous spot for enjoying a fall hike. Trails are easy to find and overlap with each other so you can really choose where you want to go. Spotted lots of critters and fungi along the way.

A nature reserve a few miles away from Boston. What's not to love? Fishing, hiking, biking. You name it. There's lots to see and do all you need is a bit of creativity. Dark hollow pond is definitely a fun area to check out. (it's also in the video game Fall out 4)

The park has well-marked trails and is kept very clean. The views are a refreshing contrast from the surrounding city - although, if you want to see the city, there's a Skyline Trail for that, too.

We ran the rock circuit trail most recently here, but we have hiked other trails as well. The rock circuit is my favorite trail and it is filled with fun rocks to climb and scramble over. This is my favorite hiking area near Boston!

One of the best State park around the Boston area. The water is very clean and the surrounding forest is a great place to relax during the weekend! A lot of activities to do and hiking trials too. Kayaking was super fun!

A great spot for novice or intermediate trails (more so in the way of distance than trail difficulty). There are great trails on both sides of 93, so take the time to explore. There are also some local groups that do group birdwatching and hikes that you can look up. I was lucky enough to live right in the fells for a couple of years, and proudly can say I’ve done all but two trails. One major downside is there is an extreme lack of crosswalks that cross some of the major roads that run through the park. For instance, I lived across from spot pond, but had to walk 3/4 of a mile to safely cross the road at a crosswalk. I often times just sprinted across, but my partner’s vision isn’t great, so he was unable to easily explore the park. The DCR and water authority do a good job of Maintaining trails, but the DCR should be embarrassed by their lack of accessibility.

I took the kids to Middlesex Fells Reservation for a hike, I have been wanting to check out Wright Tower which you can see from route 93. So we hiked up to the tower and then up to check out the stone sculpture. The view of the Boston skyline is awesome even though the tower was not open, and the sculpture offered an adventure to find something in the park. Depending on the trail some were harder than others, not all are stroller friendly. Though if you want a challenging hike close to Boston, about 9 miles away, this is a great place to explore. I'll be taking the kids back to explore more. Be warned this is a nature preserve and there were no porta potties of the like on site.

We did the southern half of the rock circut four adults and a toddler on my back plus a 3 yo and 4 yo who did all their own climbing. 3+ miles and ~12 flights of stairs in elevation (up and down and back up again.) It was amazing and the views at the top of pinnacle and black rock were stunning. Many of the other crags did not have pay off views but the climbing was the fun part for us.

I did the bike loop around the north reservoir on a rainy day. It was a very smooth trail with rocks in a few places. Enjoyed the pretty rainy views of the reservation

Best place if you want to spend sometimes in the nature, easy to walk , wonderful views and more than a lake with Crystal water that looks perfect. Close to the city but still a lovely place to spend time with friends or family

Nice place to hike at and be in nature. Not too crowded even on a weekend. There is a nice waterfall to relax at and enjoy the peace and serenity. Lots of birds and snakes here! Lovely place to do some bug spotting too!

Nice little reserve just outside of Boston. Easy to get to with public transportation. There are a few nice hiking trails, choose the ones further from the road to really get the forest atmosphere. We saw a baby deer, a snake and a bunch of squirrels. There is also a nice viewpoint of the city.

Pretty nice, I wish there was less car noise, but it's reasonably accessible from Cambridge/Somerville by bike which I appreciate.

Went on a strenuous hike. Wasn’t sure the name but it was well marked and easy to follow. It was gorgeous out with the leaves starting to turn and the sun shining bright. A great workout. Went on a Friday afternoon and didn’t run into a lot of people so it was peaceful. Lots of trails to choose from!
