Fantastic restaurant - happy to return any time. The food is great quality, sufficient variety to choose from, and the staff is super competent and friendly. In fact one member of my party had ordered artichokes, and an attentive waiter took the effort to properly cut up the artichokes for them. The pulpo hummus starter is highly recommended, as is the fish main (see photos).

We were a lot of friends in Essen for the Spiel fair. We usually just eat at a bunch of Asian places with quick serving and low prices. We also always have one night where we splurge and get some good food at a nice place. This year we chose Paul's for this due to good reviews. We arrived 7 people at the restaurant and the waiter was nice and welcoming. There was also a wedding party at the restaurant and there was in general filled at all tables and a nice relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the bouillabaisse for a starter. After a long but not unreasonable wait it arrived. It was a wholesome and tasty dish. The waiting time for our main courses was almost an hour and I saw other people waiting even longer. I had ordered steak with fries for our main dish. When I got my steak it looked like it had been sous-vided and was super tender, but there was absolutely no sear crust on it so it completely lacked the caramelized notes from the maillard reaction. For a 38 euro steak that was completely unsatisfactory. Due to the overlong wait time I didn't dare complain and ask for a properly seared steak. We decided to cut our losses and skip dessert and asked for the bill. Overall a bad experience in what was supposed to be a great night out.

Wanted to do dinner originally but eventually only made it for lunch. Lunch menu is a set menu. We had a mushroom soup and a braised veal steak served with vegetable risotto. Paired with a glass of chardonnay. £62.90. Great service and fantastic food. Wish we had a chance to do dinner here as well but unfortunately it's out last day in Essen. Will mark this for the next trip!

French bistro style, done with fantasy and finesse. Large selection of wines, many very reasonably priced. Top service, the waiters really take care of everything and contribute to a warm and delightful atmosphere. A must visit when dining in Essen!

I attended a post wedding party here and the food, the staff, the environment were all incredible. To cater for 50-60 people is not easy but all the food was delicious and warm. Drinks, including custom cocktails, was fast and the waiter there was literally the best waiter I have ever seen. Friendly, quick, passionate and understanding (a few cups and glasses were broken). Highly, highly recommend.

My fiancé booked this place for us last night, we love how understated the elegance is inside. If you're looking for a place to celebrate, with a warm, relaxed atmosphere, this is definitely the one for you. The food and service is on a whole different level - there was so much care and attention just to make the experience great. Explosion of flavors, and meticulously prepared. (Also love how they brought us multiple baskets of bread and spread 😂) Hoping to come back soon!

The selection was interesting, and it was rather hard to choose my main course, since every single meal on the menu sounded delicious. The food was delicious, and also the atmosphere was very pleasant - combined with extremely friendly staff who was speaking fluent English, open minded for people from other cultures and for these reasons, I am delighted to recommend this restaurant to everyone who wants to experience this great restaurant! (Also the wine selection was great).
