This is a former library building located within the Matsuzaka Castle ruins. Built in 1902, it has a sense of style and elegance. The first floor is a regular museum where you can learn about the history of Matsusaka, and the second floor houses a memorial museum for Yasujiro Ozu, famous for works such as Tokyo Story. The exhibition space is small, but the content is substantial, so be sure to get it as a set with the Matsuzaka Castle Ruins!

(Translated by Google) The Ozu Yasujiro Memorial Hall is located on the 2nd floor. However, how many visitors know that they have seen Ozu's work, and that they are Japanese people who continue to influence the world beyond time and space? When I visited, I felt that there was not even one in ten people. Most people felt like they were going through or at a glance. This situation was somewhere in the Ozu movie scene. As a history and folklore museum, it is biased toward modern exhibitions centered on Matsuzaka merchants. Since it is only on the 1st floor, it will be difficult to hold a special exhibition, and it feels cramped.

(Translated by Google) Visited on the day of the Ujigo Festival. Although I couldn't see it slowly, there was a corner of Mibu-Shigo that laid the foundation of Matsuzaka, and although it is a reproduction, portraits and letters are also on display. There are tiles that have been excavated, and all of them are fat enough to take photos. You can also purchase the Oshiro Mark of the Matsuzaka Castle Ruins here.

This museum is located on the Matsusaka Castle ruins in Tonomachi, Matsusaka City, Mie Prefecture. From the front gate of Matsusaka Castle, go up the hill and it's on your right. The building used to be the Iinami County Library during the Meiji period, and the exterior as well as the garden are nice. At the time of my visit, a project commemorating the 45th anniversary of the opening of the History and Folklore Museum was being held, titled ``The Literary and Military General Ujisato Gamo - The Era of the Establishment of Matsusaka.'' It's already been a month since the 62nd Ujisato Festival, and this visit is the final part of the 62nd Ujisato Festival. The exhibition space is small, but it was interesting to see the exhibits, such as Gamo Ujigoshita's letters and Sen no Rikyu's handwritten letters. The entrance fee of 150 yen (apparently it's free if you wear a Matsusaka Momen kimono) is more than enough. Inside the museum, there was a ``Ginnazu Ogata Helmet'' on display, which was donated to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the merger of Matsusaka City, and is perhaps a permanent fixture. Is this the one used at the Ujisato Festival? I thought it would be great if I would be the one to wear this next year.

If you want to learn about the town of Matsusaka, Matsusaka Castle, and the first lord of the castle, the Gamo clan, this is a good place to start. The building, which dates back to the Meiji period, is also a quaint museum. The history of Matsusaka is summarized in a compact video. In addition to the permanent exhibits, events such as special exhibitions are also held from time to time, and on this day, many new items from the collection were introduced. The second floor is a memorial hall for Yasujiro Ozu, a film director who descended from Ise merchants. Those who are interested in old movies will enjoy this content.

This is a museum inside Matsusaka Castle. Admission fee is 150 yen for adults. If you are interested in Yasujiro Ozu's work on the 2nd floor, it will probably take less than an hour. The first floor introduces the culture of Matsusaka from the Edo period to the Showa period, and the second floor introduces Yasujiro Ozu, a film director from Matsusaka. The building itself is registered as a tangible cultural property. It is said that in Edo, striped clothing made in Matsuzaka was popular, and many merchants made fortunes there. A sample book of striped patterns from that time was also on display. Yasujiro Ozu is a former school teacher who became a film director. He worked on masterpieces such as ``Tokyo Story'' and became famous as one of Japan's leading film directors, alongside Akira Kurosawa and Kenji Mizoguchi. If you are not interested in old movies, you may not need to see the exhibits on the 2nd floor.

(Translated by Google) The visit fee was free. When I came earlier, there is a memory that I did not enter because I needed an admission fee of 100 yen. This time it was free so I appreciate it. As long as 30 minutes, you can see the exhibits at once.

Matsuzaka cotton, which made Matsusaka flourish, is on display. On the second floor, there was a valuable map of Matsuzaka Castle and an exhibition about film director Yasujiro Ozu, who lived in Matsusaka, his father's hometown, as a child. This museum is small and easy to browse.

I visited Matsusaka for the first time in over 30 years after learning that the Yasujiro Ozu Memorial Museum had opened on the second floor of the Matsusaka City History and Folklore Museum (formerly the library). Matsusaka City is where Yasujiro Ozu, one of Japan's leading film directors, spent his impressionable years (9-17 years old) from 1913 to 1921, and was obsessed with movies. The city that inspired me to enter the world of film in the future. Although it is a small memorial hall, it is very moving considering that it was built in the same building that Ozu's young son passed 100 years ago.

This museum is located on the ruins of Matsuzaka Castle. Admission fee is 150 yen. Matsusaka City is a merchant town, so there were many exhibits with historical value, such as old signboards. There were also many documents on display about the lord of Matsuzaka Castle, Lord Ujisato Gamo. The second floor was a memorial hall for director Yasujiro Ozu, who has ties to Matsusaka City. There are movie signs and other things to see. Parking is available at the nearby Matsusaka City Parking Lot. It was a weekday, so it was free. There is also a second parking lot. There is a washroom in the parking lot.

Many valuable materials related to director Yasujiro Ozu are displayed mainly on the second floor of the museum. Since 2023 was the 120th anniversary of director Ozu's birth, there was a large space on the first floor for exhibitions. Several 10-minute videos were shown, and I was able to unexpectedly listen to stories from actors and staff members who had ties to director Ozu.

(Translated by Google) It looks like an old-fashioned building like an old government office. Since it is not a museum specializing in Matsusaka Castle, many living tools from the Meiji and Taisho eras are on display. The Yasujiro Ozu Memorial Hall on the 2nd floor is rare, so I think it's worth a look.
