It is less of natural history museum, and more a museum of stuffed animals. Very beautiful and well made though. Especially good for kids, but for adults it is not very informative.

I don’t know how most of the reviews do not mention the fact that this museum is not for non-German speakers. The thing is: I’m okay with it, but if I ask at the info point, before buying ticket, in which language I will find informations in the museum and they say German, French and English, and then only 20% is translated in French and nothing in English, I get really mad. I also get mad because of the kids screaming here and there. And last but not least, the only section of the museum in English is the one about Barry, the rescue dog. And guess what? It’s just because you can buy photos with him. Just avoid this place if you are interested in more than a walk in between dioramas

One of the best museums of natural history I have ever seen. In covid times there might be a long wait time to enter the museum. We waited 15 min, but there isa sign "30 min from here", so, I guess, it might be longer. The best highlights are the installations of the animals in the natural habitat. Especially the Africa. I just need to add - we came back last Saturday, and without Covid, the experience is much better. No wait at all, even the famous Queer exhibition was accessible. (Btw, amazing display and the way to present things. Try to catch it - this is the last week)

Really like it. Quite interesting the exposition about glasses. Even if there are many visitors you can walk properly. I do recomme it.

This is such a great place! It's not super expensive and kids are free. Really interesting exhibitions, we were lucky enough to see the Dinosaur one which was cool, moving dinosaurs. Tiny T-Rex arms still hilarious. The crystal&gem exhibition is really interesting, as are all the skeletons and taxidermy. The section on Barry the St.Bernard is great, have heard bits and pieces of the story so it was nice to see it all together. There's a replica of the Berner Munster which has a legend explaining who is who. Not all the signs have an English section.

Very good museum to visit, not too big so it can be done also with kids. there is also several interactive parts and usually there is also a part of the exposition that is changing.

Nice museum. Compared to similar museums in the world (New York, Naturalis in Leiden) it's a bit tame. Some parts were closed (animals of Switzerland!) and a few objects didn't work without explanation (REGA helicopter).

Went up to Bern with the young toddler for a few hours to see the dinosaur exhibition in the Museum as the lad is obsessed with anything prehistoric. Got a tram from near the train station, was not too long of a trip, 4 stops and dropped off at the main History Museum. The Natural History Museum is around the corner and to the side. Was well chuffed to only pay 10 Swiss Francs, and of course the lad was free entry. Went straight to the dino section and naturally the young fella was immediately captivated. Some very big dinosaur exhibits on display, all moving and all scary looking. Very good effort and we were well impressed. We ventured around and saw the rest of the main collections of animals from different regions, the animal fossils, the minerals and rocks section, and a nice surprise to see the famous Barry, the original "St. Bernard" dog so loved in Switzerland. Even though the place was absolutely packed with young kids, (which was a surprise for an October Thursday!) it was still relatively easy to see all the exhibits and get some good photos as everything is well laid out and there is plenty of room to get and see everything. In fact the dinosaur set up was so impressive we decided to have another look before we headed home. Loved the museum and will be back for sure. A lot to see, and the exhibits are very well presented. I think the Dinosaur exhibition is only temporary so I recommend to anyone to get there before it goes as its very impressive. 10/10

Sich a great place for a family outing on a rainy day. And obviously hugely informative, educational. The expositions are created with so much care.

Came to see the famous Barry. After owning a St. Bernard years ago, I appreciate the breed for its loyalty, company, intelligence, and sweet nature. Special breed of dog, as are all dogs. 🥲

Great museum and recommended. Just one warning that parking is very limited in the neighborhood around the museum. If you are able to walk or bike, it's a good idea 👍

One of the best nature museums we have been to (and there have been many) with fabulius rocks and minerals, skeletons, stuffed exotic animals, rooms of interest (Alpine dogs, lifesavers) and a set of contemporary art gallery-like science rooms. It was even too overwhelming for my 4-year-old :-) The best part was a globe in my sweet ESTONIAN!

  • 3/5 Margarida B. 2 years ago on Google
Most of the collection is composed by embalmed animals, you will also find some skeletons and many animals conserved in formaldehyde. The temporary exhibitions were very good and are worth the visit, one of them was not translated into English though.

This is a school museum, but a very good one at that. A lot of stuffed animals in realistic scenarios. The earth metals and minerals section was just as nice. Especially if you have an interest for these things

Well worth a visit from the ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ and renowned dioramas to the tragicomic ‘Murten elephant’. Free on Saturdays during August.

We are going regularly to Naturhistorisches Museum, specifically for bad weather fun. Last time we went to see "Picas Nest" which was a great experience for the little ones. This is a must see for anybody remotely interested in nature, evolution and historic development of species and environment. It is also very well suited for kids of all ages, with special expositions and experiences.

(Translated by Google) It was nice to be here again after years. Unfortunately, much has gotten old - although it was less the preparations than the environment. A lot is exactly the same as 30 years ago. Corona also blocked one or the other - which was a shame. More interactivity would also be a benefit. But always worth a visit. Not recommended for children under 4 years. Prices are absolutely okay (children-teenagers up to 16 years even free!).

A very informative museum to which you get free entry if you have a credit card from Raiffeisen. However, it was a pitty that almost every exhibition does only have information available in DE and FR and not in EN (the IZI app didn't work properly). Make sure to go before April 2020 to see the T-Rex exhibition and be aware that there will be many kids because of it!
