I've been a fan since I was 16, so this has been on my bucket list for decades. It was a dream come true of everything I could have imagined and more! I arrived and there was no line and you can purchase tickets there, if you going to the other museums in the village I'd reccomend buying the package tickets, it was 19CHF. The museum was well displayed with his artwork and even included a section from his personal collection. If you are a die hard fan then you must make the journey to visit.

Absolutely amazing!! Even if you're not a fan, you have got to see this !! Don't delay!! Photos don't do this place any justice. You have to experience it, it's guaranteed to enrich your experience of life. Small tipp : plan to arrive early in the morning, parking places and the town fill up very quickly, even during the week. Plan plenty of time, you will want to enjoy this!

(Translated by Google) The museum is awesome! I come over here once a year. I've already met Giger personally. I hope his legacy is valued and long-lasting! I think it's worth a visit. For me, HR is the coolest Swiss! (Original) Das Museum ist der Hammer ! Ich komme 1x im Jahr hier vorbei. Habe Giger auch schon persönlich getroffen. The museum is great, so many works from various periods of HR Giger’s prolific life. There’s also his small private collection of oddities, and always a guest exhibition of some kind. It’s off the radar, but well worth a visit. Also the town itself is very pretty.

This is the Bar with some coffee, tea and basic foods. The main and best part of this bar is design, after visiting museum extend time with Ginger vision in this bar. Place is not big and probably you will have a lot of people and families with children around you. I added menu below so now you know what to expect and on what price level.

(Translated by Google) Very mystical location, although spatially a little smaller than expected - in terms of the visual presentation of the official homepage. A MUST for fans of alien films, highly recommended for everyone else, only the score was missing, then it would be perfect, but also so very cool! (Original) Sehr mystische Location, zwar räumlich etwas kleiner als erwartet - sprich im Bezug auf der optischen Darstellung der offical Homepage. Great place for Alien fans will see a ton more of their favourite artwork. For others, it's impressive how large influence Giger had on sci-fi and pop culture. After seeing too much of the sickeningly beautiful landscapes of Switzerland, Giger museum allows your dark side to come back to balance.

Dark, dark stuff. If you would like a deeper insight into the creature of the movies, this is the place to find it. Every part of the museum is steeped in his work, right down to the floor covering. It is located in a quaint historic town, not quite the combination you might expect.

Very interesting collection of works, some of which include original sketches for the Xenomorph used in the Alien movies. It's spread over a couple of floors in a small ?house and also includes part of his own collection. Definitely a must if you're a fan, however may be off-putting if you're unaware of his works (a lot of which have a sexual theme).

Absolutely superb for Alien fans, a great inside of the person H. R. Giger. Great objects, not for all ages (adult themed). I enjoyed it, it's more than worth it, dont forget the giger bar opposite of the museum! Approximate time is about 60-90 minutes.

Truly a wonderful experience. Don't be fooled by the surroundings, this collection is HUGE and absolutely stunning. After you finish visiting the museum, you can drink something at the Giger Bar next door, which has a very peculiar "alien" interior, definitely worth seeing.

Really nice museum dedicated to Hans Ruedi Giger. The exposition will make you travel through the universe of the artist and what he liked with his private collection. I would not take children under the age of 12 as some of the scenery can be disturbing

Darkness in paradise. It is an amazing location for one of the most obscure and talented artists of the XX century. Many floors in an old building, surrounded by beautiful mountains. It's not easy to reach in the middle of Switzerland. But yes. Go for it.

OMG, this is an experience I will never forget. I have wanted to go here for so long. If you love the Alien franchise and the art of Giger, you will not want to leave. There are 3 floors packed with everything, from sketches on paper, to huge art works, sculptures and so much more. The museum is only open a few days a week, for 4 hours a day, during the winter season, longer hours in the summer season, it was not long enough. There is also a shop, with a large range of items to purchase. Truly a magnificent place to visit. There is also the Giger Bar, right opposite, another truly unforgettable experience. Serving food, coffee and alcoholic beverages.

Nice place, the entrance seemed rather welcoming but yeah he was on his phone the whole time. The place is cold at some parts because it’s decorated and built with stone so I would recommend to wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes, they should really place in some benches to sit down all around, I was dead standing around. It’s a cute small museum though:) smaller than I thought but really interesting. I wouldn’t recommend it for children though since some art are kind of.. but I loved it!

This one is for Fans of Gieger and all nerds. Lovely located in a castle. The theme is typical for Gieger, so you know what you can expect: drawings, sculptures and furnitures in alien type themes. (So, I wouldn’t go there with small kids). What I really liked was that floors and some walls have been decorated with hits drawings, too. The exhibition was extended at the time of the visit by sind great work from other artist, which was a surprising nice add-on. It wad also very nice to meet the curator(?), which was his former friend. She approached us and provided us many interesting background information, which made the work even more interesting. We haven’t been to the Bar next door, but this looked amazing. I would definitely spend some time there at my next visit.

An amazing work of art that is exceptional and unique. We took two hours to get to the Museum from Geneva. Our all experience was ruined by the nasty staff at the Museum Bar. A heavy set unpleasant bar tender yelled at me to not take pictures of the bar. She then pointed to the door and said read. I walked to the door and it said: pictures for customer only. I came back inside and said to her: it says for customers only. I am waiting for my mother in law to come down from the castle so we can sit down and have a drink. I further said: you were so rude and assumed right away that I only want to take pics. She then turned and became nastier and answered back in a very rude way. I realised at the moment that she hates Americans!!!!!!! So to the artist of this museum I like to say: it’s not only your work of art that is important, It’s the staff and the way they carry themselves. They are a representation of you.

Well if your respect yourself and you have seen horror movies of the '90s and the 80s and you are in the area this is one of the places that you should visit... The museum 0fcourse is from Giger, a strange personality that designed among other very interesting forms of art the monster from Allien. You will receive much more than that though. A must if you are in the area.

Amazing museum dedicated to a true master of science fiction and fantasy. The breadth of Hans Giger's creativity is a wonderful sight to behold. Some of the most iconic works of the 20th century are interspersed with sketches and memorabilia from Giger's commercial work on the Alien movie series and others. An unexpected treat is the top floor with works by various artists that Giger collected (and even collaborated with) over the years. The museum is a little dated, though, and could use some upgrading. It's definitely an excellent way to balance out all of the churches, chocolates and castles. Enjoy the darkness!

  • 5/5 D Z. 2 years ago on Google
A remarkable museum that will appeal to hardcore fans as well as a wider audience. On top of displaying rare artworks and photos, the museum also features many pieces from Giger's own art collection, opening a new pathway into the artist's mind. An unforgettable experience. Oh and visit the bar, it's awesome too!

(Translated by Google) It's not worth much ... In my eyes, this museum looks more like a plagiarism of art from the productions of the films "Alien" and "La Mutante" than anything else. OK, some works are paintings certainly out of the mind of HR Giger, for some, sublime, I agree, but as for the reproductions of statues or the decor of the museum and the bar for that matter, I be curious to see the reproduction rights granted by the studios 😅 because if they have not been granted, it's a bit like making money on an easy wave ^^ In short, expensive for what it is ... Such a museum is not worth 12F50 entry ...

Very disappointed and the disappointment cost me an expensive price. There is nothing very interesting to see only pictures. Not the type of museum I would enjoy going. The people working at the cashier very rude and no pictures are allowed to be taken. I would rather spend that money on 2 beers next door.

Even if you are not a fan of Alien (the movie), HR Giger's museum is still a must visit in Gruyeres. His artistic creation of the Alien character, plus many movies (e.g. Species) to follows, won him the Academy Awards in visual design. His art is definitely ahead of his time. This futuristic museum is truly out of this planet.

Among the picturesque charm of Gruyères, Switzerland, lies a portal to a realm of mesmerizing complexity and eeriness - the H.R. Giger Museum. It is a journey into the vast and sublime mind of Hans Ruedi Giger, the genius responsible for the creation of the iconic 'Alien' in Ridley Scott's legendary film. Juxtaposed against the tranquility of the Swiss countryside, this museum stands as a compelling testament to the artistry of the fantastical and the macabre. Giger's work, laden with surreal biomechanical imagery, instantly envelops you, drawing you into a world that is as disturbingly beautiful as it is intriguing. The H.R. Giger Museum displays an extensive array of the artist’s work, covering several decades of his unparalleled artistic journey. It boasts the largest collection of Giger's art, ranging from early landscape paintings and sculptures to the distinctive biomechanical art pieces that have defined his style. From the moment you set foot inside, you are enveloped by an ambiance that is truly "Gigeresque." The seamless fusion of the organic and mechanical, the harmonious discord of the grotesque and the sublime, unfolds before your eyes. The carefully curated progression of his work invites you to engage with Giger's evolving imagination and skill, making the museum a revered pilgrimage site for all enthusiasts of Sci-Fi and Surrealist Art. A visit to the H.R. Giger Museum is a profound exploration of unconventional beauty. It dares you to question and redefine your perceptions, pulling you deeper into the intricate labyrinth of Giger's world with each successive piece. This culminates in a transformative experience that resonates long after you've left the museum. Situated in the heart of a medieval town, the museum offers an intriguing contrast of the ancient and the futuristic. This paradoxical blend heightens the allure of the museum, providing an unforgettable backdrop to an artistic journey like no other. To conclude, the H.R. Giger Museum transcends the traditional museum experience. It invites you on a captivating journey through the mind of a creative genius who dared to push the boundaries of our imagination. Not for the faint-hearted, the museum is a must-visit for those seeking the extraordinary and the inspirational. It is an artistic odyssey that rewards the curious with an unparalleled insight into the avant-garde brilliance of H.R. Giger.

Seriously weird, well worth a visit; much bigger than it looks from the outside & expands on Geiger's work other than the well known Alien film

I liked this museum a lot. Being a big Alien fan I knew what to expect and wasn't disappointed. The location is within an old city that is a nice walk from the main bus/train station. The Giger bar is also very cool and worth checking out. We visited from Zurich, so approximately 2.5 hours on a combination of 2 trains and one bus. I must for Alien fans and obviously works of Giger

Unless you're offended by the themes (including pretty graphic sexuality albeit with a fantastic tint) this is well worth doing, even if your not a fan of Alien. I'm not posting photos of the works inside because you should see it yourself :) Oh, and watch the Till Nowack videos, he isn't Giger but they're good fun.

Fascinating museum. Giger's biomechanic art is very intriguing and graphic. Awesome to see some original concept for the Alien concept as well as a screen used mechanical alien head. Jonathan Davis's mic stand was also cool to see. Highly recommended. Tickets for the museum and castle can also be combined for cheaper entrance to both.

It took us a couple of hours to reach this museum from Montreux and we arrived an hour before closing time, but it was well worth the struggle of reaching it. As a long-time fan of H.R. Giger, finding out that he had a museum in Switzerland made me quite happy, as I happened to be traveling to the country this week. What an incredible artist, almost every painting or sculpture left me gaping in awe at it's absolute stunning complexity and beauty. Overall, the experience felt very sexual and of course, alien. The gift shop was well stocked as well, and I left by purchasing a post card and a poster, which I will be framing and hanging up in my apartment. If you're anywhere near this museum, be sure to pay it a visit!! Even if you've never heard of the guy.

I would have loved to leave the rest and leave - I was so upset. A shame ... simply a shame ... The light, cheap, arbitrary and completely suboptimally positioned in EVERY room! All the works and their abstraction were completely lost in it. Hanging lamps like those from Ikea, placed somewhere so that certain works were not even noticed because you simply could not see them !!!! It is strange that there are such poor lighting conditions in a museum - and for God, it is a MUSEUM, so it would be nice to CLEAN THE PANELS EVERY TIME IN ORDER TO SEE ANYTHING !!!

(Translated by Google) For over 20 years visiting the museum ... always happy to go. But ... more and more empty! In question: the Covid? I don't think (maybe the reception?) It's a museum ... not a funeral home 💤 And .... really very very unfortunate, for a museum, not to be able to access the part of the Shop. Too bad !!!! Will you have to explain to me why ??? Frankly ??? Hello? I did 3 museums in 2 days .... it's the first one that blocks everything !!!!

Great overview of Giger's work with a strong accent on the 'Alien' artwork!
