I was so impressed with this castle! How can they built this castle in the past and with so beautiful and detailed painting like that??? Still can not believe at all. I enjoyed being there and can see so many beautiful things during my trip

Beautiful piece of history. The work and craftsmanship needed for this castle is amazing. There was much thought and design put into each room, nook and cranny. The views from the balconies and windows are breathtaking. You can see the vast mountains on one side and the flowing valleys on the other side. This is at least an hour tour of the castle and maybe another 45 minutes for the outside grounds. Walking the town of Gruyères can be another couple of hours. I highly recommend visiting here.

We came to explore Gruyere Village and we decided to first visit the castle. along the way and at the top floor there were amazing views of the local area. The inside of the castle was also very interesting and it was cool to see the different rooms decorated so elegantly. It was overall a good introduction to the history of the region. Definitely a highlight of our trip to experience this.

My visit to Château de Gruyères was like stepping into a page from a fairy tale. This stunning chateau, nestled in a charming medieval village, offers a picturesque and enchanting experience that is both dreamlike and awe-inspiring. The beauty of the chateau is matched by its excellent state of preservation. Every detail, from the architecture to the interior decor, is well-maintained, reflecting a deep respect for its historical significance. The museum within the chateau is a treasure trove, offering insightful glimpses into the past and showcasing a variety of artifacts that tell the story of this magnificent place. Walking through Château de Gruyères is a journey back in time. The ambiance is serene and majestic, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the history and beauty of the surroundings. The chateau and its surroundings are so beautifully preserved and presented that they create a truly awesome experience. I would highly recommend Château de Gruyères to anyone looking for a cultural and historical adventure in a setting that seems to have leapt out of a storybook. Whether you are a history buff, a lover of architecture, or just someone seeking a unique and memorable experience, Château de Gruyères will not disappoint.

Great experience. When most think of Gruyères, cheese is the first thing that comes to mind, but the chateau here is historic, detailed, and fair priced. It's a smaller chateau, but loaded with history. The views are stunning and the tour itself takes about an hour. It's self guided, but each room has a detailed description of what the room was used for. Highly recommend!

"Must see" of the region in combination with the old (medieval) town of Gruyere and a cheese fondue "moitie-moitie". Of course, there are also lots of other delights, not least lovely landscapes and chocolate factories... an overwhelming avalanche of tourists is the downside these days - but today was certainly not the worst day...

Very cute castle with amazing views from it’s windows to the surrounding mountains. The castle garden is also lovely, worth a visit if you visit Gruyeres.

Definitely worth a visit. Make sure to tour the castle. You can buy tickets inside. There was no line to get in. It was incredible seeing the interior, the furniture, the paintings, learn the history.

Location & surrounding is so serene & overwhelming. There is an market lane on way to castle, so beautiful. Collection too is good. Best part in switzerland , price remains same, go where ever. Too scenic. Absolute beauty.

Beautiful castle. More simple in design than other castles, it served it's function as a protective structure and there is a beautiful view of the surrounding area. The inside is well preserved and beautiful to see.

Been before about 15 years ago. Flower garden nice. Ramparts good, just watch your head. Inside nicely arranged. Plenty to see. English placards. If arriving by train take the bus. Walking to the Ville is a killer walk anytime worse in heat.

It is at the end of Gruyères Medieval Village, with an up-slope walk. It has a scenic view of the surrounding alps. It is an interesting castle with furniture, pictures and equipment. It is smaller than Chillon Castle.

Nice chateau with great views over local area. Bizarre the make you put bags in lockers when there's nothing to knock over anyway!

Adorable castle on the hilltop. I recommend driving and parking in one of the lots at the bottom of the hill. It's a short walk up to the small village with a cobblestone street and a number of restaurants and small shops. The Castle is at the top of the hill, you can't miss it. Absolutely beautiful views and lovely architecture. We walked through the whole castle in 40 minutes (though we were in a bit of a rush). Definitely recommend a visit.

This is a gorgeous castle that truly represents the history of Gruyère as well as Switzerland. It is located at the back of the village allowing you to explore the town on your way. At the front of the castle there are gorgeous views of country fields. You dont necessarily need to go into the castle to fully appreciate it's beauty.

A great day out visiting the Chateau, some truly magnificent rooms, with fantastic furnishings and art work, in every room. There's a lot of interesting history in this place. Some great scenic views of the surrounding area. A must if you are visiting Gruyères.

A pretty castle in Switzerland with a pretty view and a small garden. Take 1-2hours to visit and get a good impression of it. It’s not too big.

Beautiful place. Weather was unseasonably wet but did not affect the experience. Highly recommended.

This is a very cool place to walk around. I didn’t know there was an entire plaza until I entered, I thought I was just going to the castle! I was there on a Sunday afternoon and it was VERY busy, so I would definitely recommend going during the week if possible. There are a lot of cool shops, lots to eat and drink, and amazing views! The castle garden was closed since it was January but I hear that is a big attraction as well.

Nice "castle". Lots of history behind it. Interior decorations are recently done with items from the time period. If one looks at the post cards on display in one of the rooms, the decor was quite different even 100 years ago. Nice how there are privately owned residences in the town outside the "castle". Enjoyed the tour, although quite pricey.

Great place to visit and a " wow" view from here as well. The Gruyeres village is unique and this castle is part of it,so it is a package if you are here as a tourist. It is actually a typical tourist place and you wont regret it if you visit... Make sure you put this place on your map..visit during weekdays...weekends are always busy in these places... Enjoy...

Breathtaking views of a era gone. Imagine defending the area and enjoying the gardens. Modern day shops and cafes in old worlds scenes

Gruyere castle is easily accessible my car and it has plenty of parking space for visitors. The small town around the castle is very interesting and nice! If you would like to enter the castle, there is an entry fee - keep in mind that. If you do not enter the castle, you can still enjoy the view from the gate.

If your in Gruyeres Village definitely stop by, you can even get a ticket combination for the other 2 museums in the village for 19 CHF. This castle was well set up with a informational flyer and signs in 3 languages along your self guided tour. Great history information and displays. The views were AMAZING!!!! A must see if you in the village. I went on a weekday and there was no wait and minimal other tourists.

Probably the best place on earth where to get a gluten free Gruyères fondue ;-) Beautiful location, the castle is interesting and fun for parents and kids. Plenty of parking, options, too, and a couple of chargers for those with an electric vehicle. Will come back again!

Very beautiful place. Bring enough time so that you can enjoy everything. It's advised to visit the castle in the early morning when they just open. So you can avoid long queues.

This castle is what people come to Gruyeres to see. It's right at the end of the village, and you literally cannot miss it. It is very well preserved, and occasionally it has some modern arts on display. It's definitely a must see for your Gruyeres experience.

After visiting this Castle we went to see waterfalls. It was amazing! The amount of water, the nature in the area! Everything was fantastic! And the rainbow above the water was really great!

Beautiful town and castle with plenty of museums and other attractions to see as well. Only concern is be mindful of the day and time you go because restaurants may not be open.

  • 5/5 Notis C. 2 years ago on Google
That was one of the most fantastic places I ever met when it comes to museums. I prefer to go late in the afternoon before it closes down because I wish to be alone and enjoy the atmosphere. The castle's eye between the arts of Freeport at 850 m and it's one of the most important in Switzerland it's over the village of gray hair which comes from the crane with in France is the word grue. It that's about to leave to the 11th century.

Better than expectation. You can enjoy not only diverse rooms of the castle but also the flower garden with a great view. They do discount for student(8CHF). There is a trail in front of the castle where you can find a lot of sheeps.

Enjoyed our trip to this beautiful castle even more than I thought I would, a fantastic experience on all levels. Lots to see and do, beautiful rooms with fascinating artifacts around every corner. A must do during your visit to this beautiful little medieval village!

What a lovely Castle in Gruyere. It's filled with restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops. There is a nice ice cream place at the entrance. There is also an Alien movie themed cafe alongside a Tibetan museum inside the castle. The Gruyere castle is a 45 mins drive from Lausanne. Or you can take trains from Lausanne to Romont, then to Bulle and then finally to Gruyeres station in front of the Cheese factory. The train ride is however a good 1.5 hours though.

Visited the medieval village of Gruyères in early August 2023.... again... I haven't been back since visiting in January 2015 with my Filipino friends. Obviously the big difference was the sun and the temperature, from -10 to ÷25, made a huge difference ;-) Nice little village, very touristy, visited the twisted Geiger museum, Geiger definitely had a screw loose. Talented but not fully sane. Didn't visit the actual Castle, I'd already spent enough. Had a decent spaghetti bolognaise in one of the restaurants, not too expensive for Switzerland.

A real medieval castle at the foot of the Swiss Alps. Self-guided tour, take as much or as little time as you like (we took about four hours). There’s an app, but we didn’t use it because it took too long to download its data when we launched it. Restoration works are ongoing, and the people doing the work are very forthcoming with historical perspective derived from their expertise.

We enjoyed authentic Swiss fondue while taking in the views during our visit to Gruyères Castle. Take a short hike to this national heritage site and check out the museums, restaurants, and breathtaking landscapes. Definitely worth a visit.

very nice. worth viewing. there is a qr code to scan at the entrance to guide your visit. unfortunately I couldn't download the app maybe my internet connection was down!

To my dismay, and others as well here. They did not seemed to be open. Even though today is a day they are open within the time listed. There was no note or anything to say why they were closed. The castle looks nice from the outside though. Be sure to stroll along town while you are here.

  • 5/5 Claudia Salas L. 1 year ago on Google
The castle is not that big but has beautiful views and it is also a museum. If you have the swiss travel pass is free. It is a bit of a hike but we'll worth it, I recommend it.
