An amazing museum to visit to learn more about general geology and the formation of the alps. It was very informative with most signs in English and there are even some interactive exhibits. If you want to see everything you would need at least 2 hours. The building its in is also architecturally impressive. The best part is that the whole thing is free.

This free museum is absolutely stunning! There is an excellent collection of minerals, and there are exhibits that alternate. Much of the materials are in Swiss German, but they're not hard to figure out. Expect to spend at least an hour or two here to check out all of the features.

Really interesting free permanent exhibition in the university geology department. Includes meteorites, an animated globe showing plate tectonics (movement of continents), a Mars lander, and much more! Highly recommended. Oh, forgot to mention - there is also cheap coffee (1.60) and a snacks vending machine!

Good place for a short stay. Big collection of stones all over the world. Good explanation on technology and knowledge such as how diamond is digged. For adults interesting, small kinds not so...

Very interesting exposition, we spent there much more time than we expected (~2.5 hours).

Only some exhibits had English. However it’s free and you can go upstairs to sit and people watch or read/study with the students.

I simply love this place. A lot of information put in the form of comics, videos, on the walls. Highly recommended. And for free

Free museum which is attached to the university, so you'll be intermingling with students going about their day. Fairly interesting exhibits covering archaeology, geology, astronomy and so on. Many descriptions are in German only. Kept my 6 year old more interested than many other museums.

In an expensive city like Zurich free attractions like this are key! The museum is a fun way to spend a couple hours with various interactive exhibits and plenty more less interactive ones. I do have a couple complaints however. There is a decent amount of English in the place but many of the video and exhibits are German only. Also we were disappointed to learn that you can only get in the earthquake simulator during certain times on Sunday. Also the bathroom doors are very poorly designed and must be pushed to open...don't get tricked into thinking they are all locked as was the case for my girlfriend. Overall a worthwhile experience.

Excellent FREE museum. Very nice exhibit inside the EHT campus, nestled between the library and offices. Big recommend for adults, a nice way to spend an hour or two! Educational bottom level with pictures and videos about tectonic plates and volcanoes, don't miss the very price worthy coffee machine. Second level with a quite impressive collection of minerals of varying kind coupled with connections between elements and human society. Final third level goes deeper into the planetary history with a timeline of the planet and the diversity of life. Finishing with a small but condensed view of the connection between CO2 levels and average temperature.

Really a great place for some brain food and it’s FREE (hard to believe there is such a free gem in Switzerland ofcourse despite the wonderful breathtaking views which mostly free). So, there are paperguides and magazine in english on the front table, I’ve really enjoyed here from the very start with space; meteroits, stardust, even a stone from the first manned landed on the moon, earthquake simulation, eruptions and volcanos, all kind of beautiful rocks, minerals, crystals (mostly found in Swiss ofc), geology in general with the chemical formation, and I ended up with looking at the Mars exploration. Unfortunately, all the videos are in German but anyway… what a really fun nerdy getaway! *didn’t really take many pictures as I enjoyed exploring all the stuff here

We only spent half hour or so here due to time constraints, and as such only covered the first floor. focusTerra is a completely free museum with information about earth sciences, mountain formation, and similar topics. Around 60-70% of the signs unfortunately have no English on, including the striking cross-section of a complex mountain range. There are also essentials like a vending machine, children's area, and bathrooms here, alongside free talks.

Nice free and interesting exhibition in a great building. Unfortunately several audios and videos were out of order during our visit. And why do they open from Sunday to Monday but close every Saturday?! Sooooo illogical and unpractical for weekend visitors!

Amazing spot to spend 2-4 hours. Great for kids but also adults, a very nice collection and visit-worthy contemporary architecture.

Nice, free, and quiet museum - great option for kids (there is also a little kids corner with books and several stuffed animals). I like to get coffee from the machine for about 2 CHF and walk around with my son on a weekend day.

Who would’ve known this museum inside ETH to be a true “gem”! The displays are excellently organized, some are interactive, and the display of minerals absolutely breathtaking. The large smoky quartz is impressive and I really loved all of the minerals. The open concept display was fascinating and it’s nice how you can feel at one with the studious minds sitting in the corridors who will become future geologists (?).

This is an amazing earth science museum with rock exhibit and a super cool earthquake simulator! If you come at the right time, you get to experience three very different levels of earthquakes, from real ones that actually happened to the man-made ones. I don’t even have to say that the kids loved this part! The people involved are all very nice and more than happy to share their knowledge. We really had a lovely day. There are also some amazing rocks on display, a play corner with different books to go through, dinosaur toys and a globe showing the movement of the continents. The whole place is amazing and even if you aren’t that much into rocks, I promise this place will be entertaining and instructive (in a fun way!). Of course, the entrance is free!

Amazing museum at the university. It's free and has a 3 floor geology section and a main exhibition space. When I was there, the exhibition was about space. The girl who was explaining everything was enthusiastic and knowledgable. Highly recommend!

It is also inert for non-geologists. I recommend. (Original) Музеят е към университета и е напълно безплатен. Колекцията не е много голяма, но всичко е подредено и обяснено много добре.
