worst experience at a bar. Last night I went and left crying because of how bad this place is... I was leaning on the bar to order a drink and next thing I know half of my hair is on fire, literally alight and in a flame. Not only did the bar staff not care about my health or safety or the smell of burning hair which filled the whole upstairs bar area, but now my hair is half burnt off. Who puts burning candles on the ledges of bars where people are leaning over to order a drink??? To clarify too I was no even drunk, as I wasn't even able to order my first drink before my head caught on fire. Never going back.

I was (un) lucky enough to lose my card wallet at The Lansdowne almost two weeks ago. It had my credit cards, drivers licence and Medicare card inside. But why don’t I recommend this pub? Not because I lost my wallet (as it’s not their fault) but despite emailing their lost property contact email twice in hope that someone had found and handed the wallet in, the pub did not have the courtesy to reply or even simply acknowledge my email. Knowing anyone that loses their personal items would have been feeling highly anxious, a short reply would have helped give me some certainty in the situation whether to replace my lost items (or not). What a disappointing experience…I definitely would NOT recommend a night out here, and if after reading this poor service review you still choose to go to this venue, don’t say you haven’t been warned about how much they care about their customers!

Terrific evening on the rooftop thanks to Rory, Lawson, Katie and the team for booking our group last night! More than enough space esp. during shoulder season for those after an outdoor catchup so highly recommend the Spring time. The middle bar has a very grunge-rock feel for paid gigs/bands whilst the main bar suits for those after more loungey vibes.

I just went to the bar of Lansdowne for a free beer that the hostel were I was staying gift me with a voucher and then I will back for sleeping. But surprisingly I found a super cool bar with great music and live bands in the first floor. So I stayed more time here, and saw two local bands that I have no idea of them because I'm new in this city but I really like their music. For me is awsome to find places like this bar when the rock & roll lives :)

Stayed a week in the Village Broadway. Highlight was coming downstairs for a feed and a few drinks. In particular Griffin was awesome behind the bar. Excellent recommendations, great service and a good chat. I will be back 😂

Legendary venue that started life in 1925. Although I can’t personally vouch for that I recall some top metal bands playing here in the 80’s , 90’s & ever since. Yes it’s a well placed location at Chippendale & a stone’s throw from bus stops that head in every direction . Good pub food & grog are at the fore and I’ve attached a few pics of my favourite Aussie band playing here - The Cosmic Psychos . Totally Awesome 🤩

Great live music venue on the second floor, plenty of space for a band and a hundred or so people to fit in. Loads of fun! Bar was good too

Not sure why this place has poor reviews. It's a grand spot an we had no complaints. Place is basically full automated so we didn't meet a single staff member. Rooms were clean and had good Air-con. We booked late but all three of us were still put in the same room. Will be back for any future Sydney adventures

The Lansdowne has become my favourite local pub lately! I have lived in Chippendale for years and had no idea it had a rooftop until I saw a poster near my house, and I went up over the weekend and it was the most beautiful spot!! So sunny and breezy, and there’s a really good happy hour too!! Highly recommend the rooftop and the Lansdowne in general 🙏🙏

Great spot across from Victoria park. Food is fresh and in large portions. Drinks are quality and the staff are fantastic.

Service was just so bad, we sat at the rooftop and couldn’t believe how little the staff wanted to do. We wanted some wine but was told to go downstairs and see if they had it, we then asked if they could check and was given huge attitude. As someone who has worked as a bartender for 5 years the service was just so poor, truly hate leaving reviews but wow I was shocked considering they just re- did their rooftop. The prices also don’t match the menu and then was told they could do nothing about it and we we’re charged charged extra for the bottle of wine cause they charged me for 4 wine glasses.

Landy is back and the burgers are honestly some of the best in Sydney. The meatball sandwich is delicious too but the burgers are next level yummy. Great spot for a Friday for lunch too. Staff were friendly, fast, its not too busy but still has a great vibe.

Upstairs is always mixed so nicely for live music. An icon for the Sydney scene. Losing the real grunge it used to have, but people change, what can you do?

Ordered delivery from them but felt they deserved a review because this has to be the best pub grub i've gotten, that stayed good even after delivery time had lapsed! Their burger and reuben are solid choices, and even their criss-cut fries were perfectly seasoned and textured. A much better burger and sandwich than even many places that specialise in burgers or sandwiches.

My recent experience at The Landsdowne has left me quite disappointed and uncomfortable due to the behaviour of the security staff as well as the manager. My friends and I visited for PICNIC party on the 29/07 and unfortunately, the way we were treated by the security team was far from acceptable. Firstly, the security team exhibited an unnecessary level of aggression that made us feel unsafe and unwelcome. Their tone and demeanor were both alarming and unnecessary, and it completely marred what should have been an enjoyable night out. What's worse, the incident escalated when we were accused of breaking into the smoking area, despite the absence of any closure signage. This accusation was not only baseless, but it was delivered with an alarming level of aggression and gaslighting. When we tried to address the situation with the manager, hoping for some understanding and clarity, we were met with further gaslighting and hostility. Instead of listening, addressing our concerns and apologising, the manager took it personally and dismissed our perspective. As patrons, we deserve to be treated with respect and courtesy, regardless of the situation. I hope the Landsdowne takes this feedback seriously and reevaluates the behaviour and training of their staff. The success of any establishment hinges on its ability to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons, and this incident fell short of that expectation.

Great venue with a roof top bar & gig room. Lots of space but gets really busy most nights. They serve up Mary's burger and thats because they owned by them. Staff blow hot and cold. A real shame they closing their doors in April.

Clearly at capacity, security turned around multiple people for bogus reasons after letting people wait inline for over 45 minutes. I thought this was lgbtqia+ friendly venue, I’m disappointed to learn it’s not.

The vibe of the place is really nice, but what made it a 5 star establishment for me was the cute bartender with the bushy eyebrows that really took my heart. He was giving me the eyes all night, I think his name may have been Roo (short for Andrew of course), but i can’t be certain

Located opposite to Victoria park, close to Broadway shopping centre. Rooftop bar has both amazing food and view. Great place for partying.

Bar staff were amazing. I had exceptional service from a lady named Skyler? Skylar?. Friendly and professional. Event was overcrowded for SXSW and the patrons were annoying af. I literally stood between two conversations: one talking about the benefits of moving from redfern to rose bay; the other talking about investing in NFTs. I'm glad that it would have been difficult to jump off the balconies.

Live Music lives here! Great pub food and friendly service makes this castle of a looking pub beside the pub stand out. Be sure to buy yourself a tshirt from any one of their rock star bar staff!

Lansdowne is a perfect hub for a chill and summer/spring dinners &drinks (your pub meals are to die for)! Unfortunately, you do not open as frequent and as long as some of your customers would wish. I’d love to bring my friends here but the only times we happen to be free, yous are closed. So I give you a 4.5 rating !

Good atmosphere. A bit dark and grungy so may not be everyones vibe. They sell the same burger as marys. These are pretty good but pretty small sizes for big hungry people. The chicken is super good. When i was there, our food took so long to come but the bartenders were super nice and gave us free tequila shots to make up for the long wait.

I actually haven't ever been in - but I arrived at about 3 am last night hoping to meet mates there for a party going till 5. Unfortunately, it was a rainy night and not very busy out - as a result, the event was being wrapped up and only had 10 minutes left on the clock. The seccies were EXTREMELY respectful and friendly. They were apologetic and explained the situation clearly. They gave recommendations for nearby venues (which turned out brilliantly). They were a credit to the venue and if that sets the vibe for what it's like inside, then I'm very keen to try this place out properly ASAP.

The bartender with the nose piercing was so kind and helpful! I’ve had the best night and the live music is so great - always a great rock gig at the Landsdowne (-: Give that girl a raise!!!

If you like a pub/music venue for lesser known and/or alternative bands - this is a great place. Unreovated and largely unchanged in over 30 years...I remember seeing the Lime Spiders here back in the late 80's...or was it the early 90's 🤔 Good food and beer 🤘

Dont bother if you're going for a quiet one to relax and get out of the house. Horrible atmosphere, wooden unempathetic staff. Why no pints, seriously?

Love the Landsdowne, has some incredible atmosphere especially the rooftop. Mary's burgers are very tasty and reasonably priced. Chips then dipping into the mash and gravy is a big recommendation. Price for jugs too, makes sunset even better. Heaters on the rooftop for cold nights.

Love this venue. Always happy to go out and support local artists. Downside very understaffed. slow waiting times at the bar lack of knowledge of drinks. NOBODY collecting all the empty glasses piled up everywhere. I'm glad this iconic place as not been turned into units.

The veggie burger is maybe the best I've ever had? Decent Range of beers, good venue for music upstairs

Rory is a superstar!! Made our night by putting extra effort into fixing the music for us in the pool room - what a legend! Very hospitable!

Bar staff are fantastic and do the a great job, unfortunately management need to learn a little about business practices in surcharges and overall management from looking at previous reviews.

Just a really bad bar. Went to the rooftop for a function and found that you can’t just go to the bar and order a drink, pay, and get it rather you must scan a qr, order and pay online, and then the staff kinda Uber eats it to your table. No gin and tonic option I ordered a vodka red bull which didn’t arrive in 10 minutes so I asked the bar. I was told off for approaching the bar until I stated my case to which we found that they had just left my drink on a table for anyone to take. I was made another one and they gave me a nip of vodka and some red bull in a short glass, I had to ask for the rest of the can of red bull. Every other bar I’ve ever been to gives you the can and for $12 I want everything I paid for. It took 15 minutes for a mediocre vegan burger and chips to arrive. I’m not mad at the food because I really didn’t expect anything good but it was pretty bad. Not a $19 food experience. This was my second time at the Lansdowne, the first time security wouldn’t let my partner in. No explanation given. Just a terrible bar.
