I was so excited to stay here. Location is amazing and I thought it would be worth paying more than an average hostel. I’m staying on the ground floor and it is impossible to sleep after 6:30-7ish because of the laundry trolley upstairs , making awfully loud noise and even feels like either a train is going on top of you. I would really like to have a sleep till 8 but is not possible with this noise. Maybe some other rooms are not having the same issue. But in my case, sadly not worth the money. I told the receptionist about the issue and he only said he is sorry, so I assumed this is a known issue going on.

Loved this hostel so much!! Staff are so friendly and accommodating, will do anything to help. Rooms are so clean, quiet and very comfortable. Cleaners are around every day. Facilities are brilliant, massive kitchen space, rooftop terrace is a great place to chill, hangout with friends or just look over at the amazing views! Central location, 9min walk from circular quay. Would 100% recommend this hostel to anyone, all ages!

Nice, spacious hostel in a safe area. The guests are somewhat friendly but I'd say they're more adventurous and out exploring more than trying to meet new people. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The process are a bit high for the breakfast, bar, cafe, and rooms on weekends, but alot of Sydney is over inflated on pricing vs value so what's new there. Overall Id recommend this stay.

I had a dorm for men with a own bath for ~145A$ per night. Each bed has its own light and plug. The cabinet can be locked and has its own plug inside as well. The room had a central AC, which could not change the temperature. The rooms and bath are clean. You can get a towel for an extra fee. The hostel has a rooftop terrace with a view over the harbor. You'll see the Opera house as long as there's no cruise ship in it. There's a co-working space with a kitchen and cafe. The staff was nice and attentive. Overall a great Hostel, would go there again.

I'm going back in Feb 2023 after staying at YHA Sydney Harbour last year. What's not to love: the friendly staff, rooftop open air area, Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House views from my window. We chose a room with a private ensuite and included a kettle with tea and coffee supplies. To top it off the accommodation is at a much lower rate than all the other Hotels in the area with a similar view of the Harbour. This photo was cropped for privacy but it gives you a glimpse of the panorama from this place.

Our family had the best stress free staying at the YHA. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to the newly refurbished King Opera house view room and its was amazing. We had an added single bed and still had plenty of room to move around. The beds were so comfortable, the private ensuite was large and very clean. The kitchens were clean and the cold pure tap was a bonus, there was plenty of room in the fridges to store our food. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable and offered lots of advice. The Cafe had the best coffee and a great price. The rooftop balcony had the best views and was the highlight, the atmosphere around the whole hostel was friendly. I would highly recommend YHA Sydney harbour and would definitely stay again.

Reception staff are very rude , not friendly. Beds are not comfortable, lumpy on middle Of the mattress , when we address this issue to the reception staff - answer was what do u expect on hostel ? Travelled with family - worse experience. I think good for solo travellers but not for the family

How can you write reviews that the rooms are clean. We paid for a family room The beds has hair all over the beds, bathrooms are dirty. And also we have to put clothes on the beds for the kids to sleep. You can hear in the morning the housekeeping speaking so loud plenty laughs early in the morning Speaking the y own language and everyone looks very dodgy. We got scare of them we have double lock our doors. I wouldn’t recommend For family

The view on the top deck was just phenomenal: you get to see the harbour bridge and the opera house at the same time, if no cruise ship in between. The interior is decent and the price is impeccable. The popular areas are just within walking distance, so in our day we simply walked throughout downtown Sydney. No regrets. The only downside is probably the sound proof: we can hear footsteps or knocking-like sounds before we sleep. Not sure what those sounds were though.

the YHA is a very nice and modern hostel. the rooms beds and bathrooms are clean and in good condition. the lobby is very large and offers plenty of space. the kitchens are clean and well equipped. The rooftop deck offers great views of Sydney Harbour, the Opera, the city and the Sydney Harbor Bridge. the hostel is very centrally located and only a few minutes walk from Circular Quay station. You can be at the opera or in the city very quickly. The staff is very friendly. When I wanted to change rooms it wasn't a problem, I spoke to Tomas and he made everything possible. I've been there four times in the last six months. and will go again when in Sydney. it is a quiet hostel which is very good if you travel for business. the private rooms have a beautiful view of the opera and sydney.

Such a great hostel! I’ve worked in hostels before and this one is up there with what I’ve seen. Incredibly friendly staff, perfect location. Everything is walkable. All facilities were spotless and other guests were respectful. Would definitely recommend this place and will gladly stay here again

Great location I'm sure that's why they have plenty of people staying there, staff was friendly and helpful. The room was pretty basic which was fine but not very clean, the bed smelt like it wasn't clean, sheets were worn, the bed spread was smelly and needed a wash, the shower all mouldy and the toilet was a bit grouse. Besides that great views from the roof balcony. Probably spending a bit more money on somewhere nicer would be wise.

Water was terrible, disgusting. Rooms were decent. We have to go down lots of stairs to reception to activate air-conditioning. It's decent, but remember to supply your own water. Was on a school excursion and got ceral and toast. Teachers wouldn't let us pay for anything.

Great location and clean hostel with super friendly, accommodating staff! The lobby/kitchen area is quite big and it’s easy to make friends here. Bathrooms were very clean and the a/c worked well in the room. I appreciated the big lockers in the room and how often housekeeping came in as well. The rooftop bar area was lovely for socializing and morning yoga. Definitely recommend staying here!

During my stay at this Australian hostel, I had the pleasure of being assisted by Tomas, a charming and friendly Chilean manager. He went above and beyond to provide me with helpful recommendations on things to do and places to visit. His incredible charisma and attentiveness towards other guests truly made my experience unforgettable 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Amazing views, relaxed atmosphere, close to everything. We stay 3 times a year in family rooms for 6. Aged from 16 to 65. Excellent value. Clean but simple. We love the terrace!

Rooms very basic but clean. Common spaces large and plenty of people to meet. Great location, although up a large hill from the train station. Absolute win, would stay again.

All good!! I stayed in room for 6 and 4. Room for 6 having no view, separate shower, toilet and sink. Room for 4 having good view, all in one spacious shower, toilet and sink. No amenities provided at all. Please bring all The rooms are clean. Pillow and blankets are awesome. I sleep like a baby. I can understand why Im seeing comments that this hostel is not social enough. But it worked well for me. I love that its family friendly and I feel safe. All in all, will come back but next time with locker key and slipper ;)

Great price for accommodation in the Sydney Rocks area. The room was clean and fresh with a great view of the Opera house. Also, the continental breakfast was cheap and had a good selection for breakfast. The site of the YHA is perfect if you are interested in a bit of historh as well.

4.5/5. Only the presence of 50 school children arriving one day made the experience a little annoying. Otherwise the facilities in the dorms were well maintained, clean, there's plenty of shared space and the location is perfect! Worth spending the extra $$$ to be here over the other local backpackers that have a lot of issues. A couple things, like the pool table upstairs, needs repairing. Thanks guys!

If you're looking for 5 star accommodation when travelling to Sydney on a budget, look no further than the Youth Hostel Accommodation on The Rocks. The rooftop floor has excellent viewpoints of Sydney Harbour with both Opera House and Harbour Bridge and it's easier to understand why There's No Place in the world like Sydney.

I loved this place! It was the first hostel my mom had ever experienced and she loved it. It was clean, spacious, and had a very nice common space. Most importantly, the staff was extremely great! UT from Thailand and Tomas from Chile specially stick out to me. They made the hostel feel like home. Both of them were very friendly and I felt like they cared about us deeply. I'd also like to note it made me happy to see a diverse team. Since my mom only speaks Spanish, it was nice to have Tomas to connect with. He was like having a piece of home at the hostel. His vibrant personality and welcoming latin energy was exactly what we needed. It was nice to feel like we had a safe and caring place to call home while on vacation. I'm grateful to have found this hostel. Our first time in Australia was a good one:)

Location is the best thing when it comes to this accommodation here in the Rocks. Just about 5minutes walk to circular quay with access to train, light rail and ferries. Also within walking distance to a lot of attractions. Common area like the dining, kitchen (lotsa fridge space and tables & chairs) and the roof top w Opera House and Harbour Bridge view are quite incredible. The room and en suite toilet was clean enough for the female dorm rooms, especially the toilet. No smell, yay! Hot and cold water was a bit difficult to control for optimal temp. While it put up a sign downstairs that YHA is open to all, I'm afraid it might not mean one would be made to feel welcomed at all times. The staff who helped w check in was helpful enough, the rest don't bother much. Weren't helpful with just general local attraction information. Generally I didn't feel like it was enthusiastic, welcoming or friendly enough. Just my two cents. Also it wasn't made known prior that one would need to bring down the used sheets and pillow case upon check out, and I had to run back up to retrieve them.

Possibly my favourite hostel; and I have been to many. Unbeatable location, million dollars terrace view, clean, beautiful, modern and QUIET, QUIET, QUIET. In this place you can actually sleep. All ages welcome and fitting in. It feels like a hotel.

Not a great place to stay for wheelchair accessibility. The rooms are fairly accessible, except the shower had a small step down and no handle or seat. The rocks is a lovely place to stay, a great touristy location, but again, impossible to get up/down for wheelchair accessibility. The room was clean, comfortable beds, great view, but no room cleaning service the whole time we were there. The breakfast was also very delicious, had healthy options, and good kitchen/social facilities. Overall, I would not call this an accessible hostel, apart from the lifts that only go to a few floors.

A nice YHA to stay in when traveling. The location is excellent for sightseeing with a short walk to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and Botanic Gardens. The hostel is not overly sociable but they do offer events (for a small fee) which you can opt to join such as rooftop yoga classes and BBQ. I opted for a female only dorm and it felt really clean in my room and quiet.

Affordable, clean, our room consist of 4 beds which is good enough. Lobby is on the 2nd or 3rd floor. The ground floor is an archeological site! Rooftop is notable, great place to hang with great view of Sydney Opera House!

The location itself is really close to Tourist Landmarks. Walked to Darling Harbour And the Sydney Opera House on another day (Very centralised location) and across the Sydney harbour bridge on my last day (all within an hour). Service was great upon check-in and during the extension of my stay. As the level I was staying in was above a cafeteria, the morning scraping of chairs and footsteps were a tad too loud. (Improve soundproofing?). Other than that, everything else was amazing as a hostel should and perfect for budget travellers. Love having a private bathroom , although since you might be sharing with strangers, you have to choose a time not to disturb your mates. Very mobile friendly but able to request for physical key if needed. Kitchen and storage area is clean and washing my own utensils is neat. Located near a convenience store right outside. Definitely go to the rooftop for the view and if with friends, play at the pool table. Site itself is located with an archeology dig so it's really interesting. Amazing concept, seating areas are wide , spacious and clean.

Clean and affordable place to stay 100000% recommend this place - directly in the city with fantastic views of the harbour bridge and opera house. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, I think i was served by paulo who was extremely bubbly and helpful. He showed me around the building and even taught me some Portuguese 😊. The staff really bring a positive vibe to the hostel. Job well done.

Great quality hostel with both private and communal rooms. Outstanding roof area with sweeping views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. It is sometimes the little things you notice and the water pressure was amazing

I recently spent 2 nights in an ensuite room here as part of a staycation. We had seen the rooftop views before and knew they were impressive, but the quality of the entire property surprised us. The communal areas are welcoming and comfortable, with plenty of space. The kitchen area was well set up with room for 8 people/groups to prepare their food at once. Reception sells a small number of snacks and has an espresso machine if you really can't get going before your first shot. Our ensuite double room felt similar to a 3-star budget hotel with the added bonus of an Opera House view. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the air conditioning worked a treat on this very hot weekend. This is not a party hostel, but having said that, there was a lovely atmosphere on the rooftop terrace where we decided on a takeaway dinner and drinks with friends to save some money. The terrace closes at 10.30pm, and we heard no noise at all overnight, so we got a great nights sleep. The terrace is also the best place to have breakfast while watching the sun rise behind the Opera House. It's an easy flat walk to Wynyard station if you have a heavy bag or a slightly short uphill (and a bunch of stairs) from Circular Quay. The staff we met were friendly and helpful, and I would happily stay again - beats paying a huge uber fare after a late-night event in the city ;-)

Wow. What a find. Excellent accommodation in an excellent location. You can get ensuite rooms. Be sure to visit the top floor outside lounge area that overlooks the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Brilliant communal kitchen area too. Also has a cafe onsite. The area, The Rocks is full of eateries and shops. We walked from The Sydney Lyric Theatre to the YHA after a show. About 1.5 to 2.0km, 11:00pm. Felt very safe. Excellent stroll, got to see Darling Harbour and the city on the way.

Owners take money from not so nice groups. People and give camera footage to undesirables. The top floor and second floor, if you have any breathing problems or sinus problems DO NOT stay on those floors because micro fibers are pumped into the rooms throughout the air con. If you have lived in Australia for a period and are dealing with insurance claims or maybe you owe money to finance company which isn't a crime.........do not stay there. However the staff are great and very helpful and the hostel like most have a great mix of people.

Interesting place right next to The Dig. Heavily elevator dependent with stairs nearby. Friendly service and open kitchen looked like it was kept in good condition. I was in a mixed 6 bed dorm and there's no issues other than a broken bathroom vent.

This is a great find if you want to spend half the amount of any other hotel in the area. Great friendly service. Great breakfast under $10. You have to wash up after yourself. Good international clientele. I loved it. Great vibe.

One of the best hostels i've ever been! Friendly staff, great location, lots of bars near by. The ambience is cool and good vibes. Rooftop is insane! Wifi available in the whole building. Breakfast is not that good, not "continental" as they say. Ground floor dorms without lift so you have to carry your bags by the stairs.. but great experience!

  • 5/5 aastha s. 1 year ago on Google
The YHA is a great place to stay. An inexpensive option in the best part of Sydney with a rooftop view of the Opera House! However, it's not a party hostel and has no socialisation opportunities for solo travelers or those looking for an interactive hostel experience. Perfect otherwise!

Good place to stay with family. And if you want to cook. Relax in big lounge read working The rooftop amazing view of weather is good. For oldies like me prefer real hotel. When they serve everything you need. This place also has old history of the Rock in the old days. Call Big Dig

  • 3/5 Emily W. 1 year ago on Google
The hostel was in a great location, so close to major sights like the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, and the view off the rooftop is incredible. I found the kitchen area okay with separate sections to cook in, however common places like the sink could do with a more frequent clean. The rooms were good, chargers and lights by the bed makes it's easy not to disturb room mates and the en-suite is really handy. The only thing I found to be annoying was the amount of young children running around every morning around 6.30/7am which isn't great.

  • 5/5 Juan B. 1 year ago on Google
Great rooftop, friendly staff, very clean (community kitchen could be better, but visitors are not chefs so understandable), NOT a party hostel which is great to rest and sleep well to enjoy daytime, at least in my case as a 30 year old solo traveller that has already hostel partied enough, nice location and affordable. Suitable for families as well. Super recommended.

His is my first time staying here. I shared a room which I wasn’t sure how it would be…but I was lucky enough to share with 3 lovely young female American tourists, the bathroom and room was modern and clean, the $8 breakfast was excellent. Customer service really good too. Definitely will be back!

An absolutely incredible place to stay right next to the Harbour Bridge. The location is great, the rooms were clean and comfortable, nice community area and rooftop space, friendly staff and very good value. We will definitely be staying here again.

Excellent hostel! Clean, professional and the rooms are big and well furnished, same for the kitchen. The location is perfect to discover the center of the city, and the view from the rooftop is amazing! Big up to Tomas at the reception, very nice lad ✌️

An excellent hostel. We had a private room with en-suite and it felt just like a hotel room but hostel prices. Really clean and quiet. Great location. A stone throw away from Circular Quay with lots of bars and restaurants on the doorstep.

YHA Sydney Harbour was way beyond my expectations, I was stayed in a 4 beds male room for 6 nights, the room is so spacious, one private bathroom and toilet included as well, you have your own cabinet for storing your bags, and two power outlets for recharging your electrical devices, one is inside of cabinet and another is next to the bed. The whole building is modern and new, very clean and spacious kitchen and dinning spaces. the washers and dryers are good as well, you can purchase the laundry detergent or powder from the reception desk if you don’t have it. Very good location-walking distance to Circular Station, ferries, L2/ L3, harbor bridge and Opera house, and you can catch the train to the airport easily at Circular Station. There was a small problem regarding the blocked shower drain when I moved in, but they fixed it next day after I told them, so all good.

Had a private room and loved it. It was clean, shower was fine and the location is pretty unbeatable. Staff was really helpful holding our bags and giving us a walkthrough on events while we were there. Kitchen was big and had everything we needed.

During my three-night stay in a private room at this hostel, I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional experience it provided. As a first-time hostel, I had no idea what to expect, but this place exceeded all my expectations. The room itself was not only nice and clean, but also wonderfully quiet, allowing for a peaceful sleep. My room had a great view of the Opera House and you can see the fireworks display from the comfort of your room. I can confidently say that the view from the hostel's rooftop is nothing short of amazing. Additionally, the staff were incredibly friendly and always ready to assist, making my stay even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a nice place in the area.

Wow wow wow, for a "backpacker hotel" this place was the jam. I went here a couple of years ago on a camp (same reason as the YHA central). It was a great stay. Whilst rooms were tiny, the beds were comfy and the bathroom was pretty good. Only problem was the water was kinda cold and the toilet flooded, but other than that, it was perfect. The service was excellent, not much else needed to say here. Location was perfect. Great view of the harbour, near shops and pretty close to attractions. Not to mention the photo opportunity was present when on the rooftop. Loved it, thank you.
