Nanyang Malaya Cafe is the new little sister cafe to Nanyang Tea Club found at Market City’s 1909 Dining Precinct. This new eatery is in an old converted warehouse with graffiti art at the back and British colonial touches interior. 🙂 The cafe offers classic Malaysian dishes such as Laksa, Roti Canai & Ipoh Hor Fun. They also bring their national dishes, Nasi Kerebu made with traditional blue rice and Hainanese Chicken with rice balls. 🙂 The Rendang Beef Burger, consists of rendang slow cooked beef encased in an egg omelette paired with sambal mayo & pickles onions. It’s innovative and creative, I’ve never had that in anywhere else. 😋 The fragrant chicken curry was perfect for the flaky roti. Seafood Wat Tan Hor was wonderful. Good portion size with a layer of seafood over the flat rice noodles. I could taste wok hei in there. 😋 The prices were significantly higher than the average Malaysian restaurant but food standards and presentation worth every penny. 😌

I dropped by earlier today during peak lunch hour and it was evident the staff and kitchen were extremely busy. Nevertheless, I was served by the friendly staff member (Marie) who was quick on her feet, attentive and always kept her smile on. - when walking past my table, she apologised that the food was taking slightly longer than usual (keeping me updated) - she anticipated that I was sharing my meal so gave us a couple of sharing plates. (Customer service) - Rung up my bill before I even got to the counter! (Attentive like a hawk) Kudos to the kitchen too for maintaining the same high standards with all their dishes as they tasted identical to when I came here on opening day. Great job everyone!!!

Best chicken rice in Sydney! I’ve been looking for restaurants who serve great chicken rice and I’m really impressed by Nanyang. Located in marrickville metro restaurant district, this hidden gem has delicious Malaysia food. Although a tad pricey. Recommended!

Malaysian restaurant in Marrickville Metro. Clean, open area, lot of food menu. Soft drinks and bit of alcohol as well. Hainanese chicken with chicken rice is amazing, however the Blue coloured Rice from Nasi kerabu was so so, also bit dry. Their Teh Tarek(local sweet milk tea) is great match with Asian food.

Came across this restaurant while browsing shops in the Metro. Menu consists of Malaysian street food. Tried roti canai with beef rendang and kaya toast. Roti was perfect, it was soft and not overly oily. But the spices in the rendang were a bit overboard. The meat was tender and flaky. Toast was a let down. Just passable. Teh Tarik was very good. Will return to try other dishes on their menu. The restaurant decor is good. Service is fast and the staff were helpful with their suggestions. A visit is recommended.

This restaurant has been serving up generous portions of rock-solid Malaysian classics like Hainan chicken and laksa since its arrival at the food precinct. While it has been a bit pricey for Malaysian food, the recent introduction of the $15 lunch menu (includes starter of 3 wings and a drink) represents great value and has brought in lots of customers during the otherwise quiet lunch period. Overall, I really like the quality of the food here and the option to order some small sides (at a reasonable price) to go with the main. For example, I would order a piece of roti to mop up the remaining soup of my laksa, or 3 chicken rice balls to soak up all the sauce of my Hainan chicken.

A much needed Malaysian restaurant for Marrickville. We arrived with a group of 12 and the staff were very friendly about seating us quickly. The food here is absolutely delicious! We had a variety of food including laksa, Kaya toast with eggs, seafood hor fun, fish curry, Hainan chicken rice, beef rendang, curry puffs and satay sticks. The kids options are great as well - Hainan chicken with rice or roti and chicken wings with rice or roti. Highly recommended!

Lovely Brunch! We have seafood laksa and chicken rise as recommended. I'm not a big fan of Laksa or Malaysia/Chinese food overall, but we love the fusion taste here, will'll definitely come back! The taste of the Laksa is not too strong or overwhelming and I like the mix of noodles/pasta, I also love the decent taste of the Hainanese Chicken rice. The complimentary lemon ice tea is really nice too, will order next time! Service is another highlight, thank you for letting us stay a bit longer!

Very tasty food here, great for a quick bite or shared with friends and family. Serving sizes are quite large and it's not expensive at all. There's a lot on the menu but it's missing a few signature Malaysian dishes. But whatever is on the menu is prepared really well and is delicious. Food service was very fast. Everything was served within 10 minutes of order. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Just a bit disappointed about the early closing times.

We were impressed with the friendly and quick service at Nanyang Malaya- the Singaporean- Malaysian eatery. We ordered nasi kerabu fried chicken, nasi goreng king prawns, satay chicken skewers, laksa, salt and pepper squid, and beef rendang. The food was nice, pricing was okay.

Very fast for the food to come and very delicious!! I had the beef tending and blue rice was rich and moist! The hainan chicken rice was moist and tasty! The fried chicken wings was crisp and tasty. The kaya bread was smooth and sweet. The drink with the jelly was good and sweet. Dissapounted that my beef rendung came with egg shell which I prefer to have without it. The roti was hard and flat dry wouldn't get it. I ordered from QR code which was easy. Love the interior design inside this restaurant.

Highly recommend the Kaya toast. Tea was tasty, the food was pretty standard. The noodles were missing wok hei.

Oh my goodness, what a find. I obviously didn't get the memo - this little gem sits amongst some other jewels in an addition to the Marrickville Metro shopping Centre - a very classy new building. Chicken rice is a metric one can use to judge a Hawker style store with its peers. I've never had better rice. It's the new "10" to score by. The chicken, condiments and presentation were all very nice too. Roti was buttery and crisp, canai curry was very yummy. The chicken wings were just like I remember in Kuala Lumpur! This will be my go-to store, pity I'm so far away!

Always the busiest restaurant in the new Smidmore St complex, can see why because this is great Malaysian food and very decent price! Outdoor tables are a bit cold in the winter months but it has a great vibe. See about booking ahead because it is popular enough that the place fills up on the busiest nights.

We ordered the Lunar New Year banquet and it was amazing! Table of 6 adults and we could’ve finish the food. Taste was amazing and stayed true to the south East Asian flavours of Singapore and Malaysia. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience Marrickville team!

First time and very disappointed. A lady staff came to take our order and she looks like she doesn’t want to be there. No greeting and no smile at all. We ordered and the first dish which is the dried egg noodles with beef rendang came out like less than 2 minutes after we ordered. It seems to be pre cooked and just heated in the microwave as the beef tasted a bit cold inside. The noodle tasted like it’s been sitting there for a while. The other 3 dishes were very average and only the fried rice was warm enough. Don’t think we will be back here.

Excellent nonya cuisine. Curry laksas were filled with great noodles, ingredients and flavorful broth. Chow kway teow was full of wok qi. Beef rendeng was the perfect pairing the the flaky and doughy roti. Sambal kangkung completed the perfect bites. Prices and serving size represented fair value. Definitely worth a visit.

Awesome Malaysian, place in Marrickville. Went here with the family and it’s very authentic very tasty. Will definitely be back. The beef rang dang was amazing so soft. Had the spicy crab and we use the sauce for rice and other noodles. It was that tasty.

Tried this place and was very disappointed. Food was obviously Pre cooked and warmed up in the microwave. Ordered the beef randang and it was luke warm on the outside and cold inside. The deep fried chicken wings still had feathers on them. The only good thing I ordered that was freshly cooked was the vegetarian spring rolls.

Cute decor and good variety of dishes to choose from. We had the teh tarik, kaya toast, Hainan chicken rice, nasi kerabu and seafood wat dan hor noodles. Most dishes were yummy, but I wish the seafood noodles had more wok hei and wish there was a bit more punch to the curry chicken in the nasi kerabu dish. The kaya toast was also a bit too bready for me, the bread to kaya/butter ratio wasn't quite right. Not the best Malaysian food I've had in Sydney but overall had a good experience here.

Came here for dinner with friends. Service was friendly. Good range of menu choices with a nice creative touch to many dishes. Flavour was on point. The only slight was what I expect to pay for traditional Malaysian/Singaporean street food/drinks. I do think the creativity makes up for this.

Popped in for lunch with my partner as we were in the center getting them a screen protector for their phone. Started with the beef rendang roti cenai and it was delicious, soft fluffy roti (not too greasy) and thick tasty rendang with so much falling apart beef. In contrast though my dry noodle with duck breast was a little middling, not much flavor in the noodle (and dunking in the broth seemed to remove what flavor was there) and the duck was definitely missing its flavor and a tad dry - it's a hard meat to get right and feels like they over cooked it slightly (which would result in loss of moisture and flavor). My partner liked their what dan hor combo, it cam out very hot (temperature, bit spice) and a lot earlier than my duck, not long after the roti, so might've benefited from sitting a minute, talking of spice though, could possibly have benefited from a few more of those, but appreciate not everyone can handle even mildly spicy food. Their the tarik (not pictured) was good though. Lovely staff, friendly and attentive.
