Beautiful and a well maintained garden. Plan for a minimum 2 hr visit to fully enjoy the view. Is a great picnic spot for families and friends. The structures present here are very old. On a clear day one can see all the snow capped mountains and glaciers all around. Has ample parking space just outside the garden for two and four wheelers. Variety of food joints both veg and non veg available just outside.

Worth a visit to see breathtaking snow capped Himalyan ranges in the background and a nice fountain in the middle on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar. There are also several statues and monuments throughout the gardens, making it a great spot for a leisurely stroll or picnic. You can see all types of people from tourists to locals enjoying the gardens. There's a person who’s always playing the flute in the garden.

One of the best gardens Built around a natural spring from the mountains in the background , this would definitely be one of the best gardens in Srinagar, so again its one of the most crowded ones too. Has a long waterpath along the centre , with landscaped gardens at different levels , few shady places where you can sit down & relax for a bit or dip your feet in the natural spring water which runs down the middle, can be done in 1/2 an hour or 45 mins depending on how much time you want to spend there

Nice place.... Shalimar Bagh is a Mughal garden in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, linked through a channel to the northeast of Dal Lake. It also known as Shalimar Gardens, Farah Baksh, and Faiz Baksh. The other famous shoreline garden in the vicinity is Nishat Bagh, 'The Garden of Delight'. The Bagh was built by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan, in 1619. The Bagh is considered the high point of Mughal horticulture. It is now a public park and also referred to as the "Crown of Srinagar".[1][2]

Beautiful and a well maintained garden. Plan for a minimum 2 hr visit to complete the garden. This is a good picnic spot, where you can enjoy it with families and friends. The structures are very old and already declared as abandoned but everybody wants to take snap inside the structure, which is quite risky. On a clear day one can see all the snow capped mountains and glaciers all around. Has ample parking space just outside the garden for two and four wheelers. Variety of food stalls are available just outside the garden. The entry fee is 24rs per person.

When you visit Srinagar it’s a must visit place. Usually a day need to be dedicated to finish visiting all the gardens, Dal lake and buildings of historical importance. Thanks to Mughal architecture its beautiful and may need at least 1.5 to 2 hours to simply walk through. There are separate ticket counters to go in.

Visited recently, the place was clean and well-maintained, which was a definite plus. However, there was some ongoing construction, and no water fountains were actively working. The flowers were really pretty and blooming. I believe that once the construction is completed, it will be an even better spot to visit. The washroom was pretty clean and the water supply was available as well. The only negative was that land around the washroom was muddy, as there was a leaking motor outside, without a warning.

Mughal gardens are a type of gardens built by the Mughals. This style was influenced by the Persian gardens particularly the Charbagh structure,[1] which is intended to create a representation of an earthly utopia in which humans co-exist in perfect harmony with all elements of nature.[2] The Shalimar Gardens in Lahore, Pakistan, is among the most famous of all Mughal-era gardens Significant use of rectilinear layouts are made within the walled enclosures. Some of the typical features include pools, fountains and canals inside the gardens. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan have a number of Mughal gardens which differ from their Central Asian predecessors with respect to "the highly disciplined geometry".

Beautiful garden, especially I love to visit this place during spring and autumn. This is indeed a beautiful garden in srinagar city. Last time, while visiting this place no one was there only employees of garden and few visitors .It was because of Covid restrictions and when they saw us with masks and hand sanitizers a proper gear.😃😃 Then they allow us to enter the garden and no doubt we follow all sop's. During Covid every moment becomes a memory and different experience like no people , no charm around. P. S :- Such places without crowd is nothing, one can't enjoy and experience the beauty of this place.Visitors are proportional to the charm of any tourist places. 😃

Well maintained garden and the enter od 24 per person is also reasonable. The garden is just little inside the Dal lake road. The view of the garden and nearby mountains is great. You see flowers all over the garden. The stream of water in middle of the garden add 5 stars to the beauty of garden. Parking is little issue, but you can manage it. Outside the garden you see hackers. The hackers are very expansive. I think full Kashmir is over expansive.

Lovely place to visit, we visited in December so the Blooming wasn't quite there but even without all the flowers the place is picturesque. We got a lot of fallen leaves and recorded a few slow-mo videos and lots of pictures. Here are a few very old trees, some as old as the Mughal existence in India.

(Translated by Google) Wonderful place beautiful Amazing ❤️Shalimar Bagh is a Mughal garden in Dal Lake connected through a channel to the northeast of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India! It is also known as Shalimar Gardens, Farah Baksh, and Faiz Baksh. The other famous shoreline garden nearby is the Nishat Bagh, 'Delight of Gardens', a garden built by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir in 1619 for his wife Nur Jahan. The garden is considered to be the high point of Mughal gardening. It is now a public park and It is also called the "Crown of Srinagar". While the recent history and development of Mughal-type gardens is attributed to Emperor Jahangir, the park's ancient history can be traced back to the 2nd century when it was ruled by Pravarsena II. Was built during. [Citation needed] Pravarsen II founded the city of Srinagar and ruled in Kashmir from 7 AD to 139 AD. He had built a cottage for his stay in the northeast corner of Dal Lake and named it Shalimar. [Citation needed] The word Shalimar in Sanskrit means 'abode of love'. The king used to stay in this hut, visiting a local saint named Sukarma Swamy in Harvan. Over the years, the hut fell into ruins and could not be located later. However, the place remained named Shalimar. It is here that Emperor Jahangir built his dreamy project Shalimar Bagh to please his queen. He converted the ancient garden into a royal garden in 1719 and called it 'Farah Baksh' ('delightful'). He built it for his wife Nur Jahan ('light of the world'). In 1630, under the orders of Emperor Shah Jahan, Kashmir Governor Zafar Khan extended it. He named it 'Faiz Baksh' ('Inamdar'). It became a place of joy for the Sikh governors of the province. During the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the marble pavilion was a guest house for European visitors. The electrification of the complex was done during the rule of Maharaja Hari Singh. Thus, over the years, the garden was expanded and improved by many rulers and called by various names, but the most popular name 'Shalimar Bagh' continues to this day. During the Mughal period, in particular, Emperor Jahangir and his wife Nur Jahan were so fond of Kashmir that during summer they moved from Delhi to Srinagar at least 13 times with their full-court admissions. Shalimar Bagh was his royal summer residence and the Royal Court. They crossed the tough icy pass of the Pir Panjal mountain range on elephants to reach Srinagar. The garden layout is an adaptation of another Islamic garden layout known as the Persian garden. The park is built on flat land on a square plan with four radiating arms from a central location as a water source. This needs to be modified to suit the hilly terrain and the availability of a well, which can be diverted to greater heights in planned gardens. The modification included running the main channel axially from the garden to the lowest point. This central channel, known as Shah Nahar, is the main axis of the garden. It runs through three terraces. This layout omitted the radial arms and the shape became rectangular rather than a square plan of the Chahar Bagh. The garden, as determined at the end, covers an area of 12.4 ha (31 acres) built on the main axis channel with a length of 587 m (1,926 ft) and a total width of 251 m (823 ft). The garden has three ladders with fountains and plains made of Chinar (figs) trees. Shahnahar is the main feeder channel for all roofs. Each of the three roofs has a specific role. The park was connected to open Dal Lake waters through a canal of approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) in length and 12 yards (11 m) through a swampy marsh. Willow groves and rice terraces scorched the shores of the lake. Wide green paths lead to the lake with a line of poplar trees. The garden was placed in a trebled walkway passing the path of aspen trees planted at intervals of 2 ft (0.61 m). The architectural details of the three roofs of the garden are detailed! ……………………………………. .. It is one of the most beautiful gardens in Srinagar. It is known here as Mughal Garden. The garden is very well maintained. The entire garden is decorated with various colorful flowering plants. There are some artificial ponds in the garden, in which small and large fountains are made, which make the ponds look very beautiful. Moreover, the surrounding view of the garden is surrounded by beautiful mountains, all together creating a wonderful atmosphere.

Shalimar Bagh was their imperial summer residence and the Royal Court. They crossed the arduous snowy passes of the Pir Panjal mountain range on elephants to reach Srinagar.[ The architectural details of the three terraces of the garden are elaborate. The first terrace is a public garden or the outer garden ending in the Diwan-e-Aam (public audience hall). In this hall, a small black marble throne was installed over the waterfall.[2][5] The second terrace garden along the axial canal, slightly broader, has two shallow terraces. The Diwan-e-Khas (the Hall of Private Audience), which was accessible only to the noblemen or guests of the court, now derelict, is in its centre. However, the carved stone bases and a fine platform surrounded by fountains are still seen. The royal bathrooms are located on the north-west boundary of this enclosure. The fountain pools of the Diwan-e-Khas, the Diwan-e-Aam, and in turn, the Zenana terrace are supplied in succession.[6] It has 410 fountains. In the third terrace, the axial water channel flows through the Zenana garden, which is flanked by the Diwan-e-Khas and chinar trees. At the entrance to this terrace, there are two small pavilions or guard rooms (built in Kashmir style on stone plinth) that is the restricted and controlled entry zone of the royal harem. Shahjahan built a baradari of black marble, called the Black Pavilion in the zenana garden. It is encircled by a fountain pool that receives its supply from a higher terrace.

Went here on 30/04/23. The route to this garden was pretty crowded due to the tourist season. The garden itself has an entry fee of 25-50rs.only. Many areas of the garden were still under development and renovation. It is pleasant and full of beautiful flowers, any macro photographers paradise. A wide variety of flowers in bloom, in rows and bushes all around. Amazing photo spots. Lawns well maintained. We spent about an hour here. Outside the gardens, lot of options available for shopping at reasonable rates.

These are also gardens made by Mughals and are often left out by tourist. The main attraction is the channel of fountains and water bodies that have been built throughout the garden.

Under reconstruction and should be fabulous when that work is done. Particularly if they make sure the 410 fountains are working and the pavilions are restored to their original glory. It must have been a spectacular garden at one time, but that glory needs to be recaptured

Amazing beauty, this is a great place to come and just sit for the whole day enjoying the Sun on a winter morning with a clear sky. Although, it's under construction, I would suggest coming here sometimes later when this maintenance and construction work is finished. It will look beautiful. If you're a tourist you can keep it for the last stop and cover the better ones first like Nishat bagh.

Shalimar Bagh, a Mughal garden in Srinagar, is a horticultural masterpiece that seamlessly blends nature and architecture. The meticulously laid out terraced levels, flowing water channels, and symmetrical flower beds showcase the Mughal aesthetic at its finest. The garden's historical significance and the stunning backdrop of the Zabarwan Range add to its allure. While the maintenance might vary, especially during seasons, the overall experience of wandering through Shalimar Bagh, surrounded by vibrant blooms and Mughal design, is a captivating journey through time and a testament to the grandeur of Mughal landscaping.

Shalimar Bagh, a Mughal Garden in Kashmir, is a symphony of beauty and history. The meticulously landscaped terraces, vibrant flowerbeds, and flowing water channels create a serene haven. The historical significance adds depth to the stroll through the Persian-inspired architecture. The well-preserved layout showcases Mughal grandeur, and the fragrance of blooming flowers enhances the sensory experience. While the garden is a peaceful retreat, occasional crowds can diminish the tranquility. Overall, Shalimar Bagh is a must-visit for its timeless elegance and cultural richness.

We visited the garden during autumn season and the garden was embellished with the golden leaves .. the mighty Himalayas gives its protective shades to the park which adds the serenity and peacefulness. An artificial pond is maintained inside the park though it was not much maintained at that time . Autumn provides an altogether different experience to the visitors although the flora was not much expressive then ... we can have a long peaceful walk through the garden and can capture some of its beauties ..

It's amazing to see Shalimar Bagh, the unique construction of the Mughal dynasty. What I like most is the natural water source and bringing it down stage wise.Though in autumn, the beauty of the garden is somehow less but you can enjoy nature at its best.

Shalimar Garden of Srinagar is very old and very special. One of the old 10rupee note contains the pic from this garden. There are very old trees which are atleast 360+ years old. It was constructed by Shah Jahan and as conveyed by locals he used to visit this garden with his queen's. There are different fountains and unique places for photography. One can enjoy and relax, it is very peaceful. One of the places to visit if you're in Srinagar. Entry fees is 24 rupees per person and Garden is very clean and nicely maintained.

Great place to visit with kids as they study about this in their curriculum. Beautiful garden... Well maintained. Could have been better if they have more facilities for picnic or day outing etc. Some fun activities for kids would be encouraged

Garden with lot of China trees and view of the valleys, well kept but there's no restrictions to people as we saw a lot if kids playing in water and even swimming there or maybe you can say as taking a bath Overall a nice place to visit but can be skipped if not a big fan of gardens

Can u get any resemblance of the garden ? On the back side of our old 10 ruppe note there is a picture of this Shalimar garden. Shalimar is an Urdu word which means abode of heaven. 🎟 Is 24 INR. This is also a part of Mughal garden. Jahangir built this garden. Near to the Dal lake. All the Mughal gardens are symmetrical and this symmetry gives a perfect look. Here also you will found the heritage chinar tree and during this winter these trees are in different look.

It is also called as "Crown of Srinagar". It is a lovely peaceful garden place. Nature lovers, couples and family anyone would like this place who wants to come away from the busy city life. We have been during summer so during other times it will be a different scene with snow and all. Lot of fountains. This is also linked to Dal lake.

I was trying to visit this place from last few time. Finally.. I got chance to visit Shalimaar Garden in the first week of Nov month. Due to Autumn and winter, the leafs of chinar tree 🌳changed into golden colour which looks very different and good. The leafs lying on the ground also presents a nice view. Apart from this there were still tree having green leafs(i think these are adaptable to winter season). The flowers at one location was of quite large size which surprised me. 😀. The ticket is Rs 24 for adults and Rs 12 for children 👶👧👦. The mountains in the backside create a nice scenery view. Though I did not spend too much time. But overall it is nice place. Outside market you can get eatables also..😄 I am sharing some pics of my visit. Hope u like it.
