CLOSED FOR RENOVATION Chikan Tower (the one in the back of the two buildings on site) is closed for renovation between 11/04/2022 - 04/09/2024 (see attached photos). CHIH KAN LOU (Fort Provintia), the green area in front, and the souvenir shop, is still open though. This was not mentioned when buying the tickets.

Interesting and historical place but not well preserved because the original Dutch built caste was not restored to its original design… instead it was decided to build a traditional Chinese style sea god temple on it. I mean it looks beautiful but it would be more special to me if the European architecture was preserved. Entrance costs -50NT

A delightful evening visit to this Tower built during the Dutch era, this historic site is aptly illuminated and well restored. In the building there are also artefacts from various corresponding eras from the time of the Qing dynasty n the Dutch rule. Brief anecdotes in both mandarin n some English are available for an interesting read. The tower overlooks the city n is a reminder of its rich cultural past. There are interesting nooks n crannies and a wonderful view of past architecture n engineering. The main building has also a large pond with many Koi fish which adds an almost zen like ambience for an twilight or evening visit. Cost of entry is negligible n the surrounding district has many eateries n food outlets to accommodate a nice dinner after a visit. A most memorable visit n highly recommended for those who wish to see the Tainan of old 👍 Parking is easily available at a large lot just next to this Tower for those who are driving. Omoshiroi desu 🙇🏼‍♂️

Magical historical site in city center. I personally think it’s better to go on late afternoon to experience the place after dark. TWD 50 entrance fee which is very reasonable to keep the place spotless clean. The whole compound was quite and peaceful (because we went during weekdays) it’s a perfect place to walk around slowly and enjoy the small details until your heart content!

An interesting place but unfortunately due to some reparations... The visit is limited to one building (The temple), and you paid the full price. Didn't see any information to let us know that everything was close, except the temple. So it's a bit frustrating. My advise: wait that the reparations are done in order to have access to all the buildings.

Historic temples built on top of ancient Dutch fort. Most of the building retained their original form and one of the temple is undergoing restoration. One of the temple houses an diety that beings good fortune to these in academic life. According to the folklore, make offerings will being blessings to the students taking test.

Pretty and historical place with good ambiance. Construction on the left and right sides is currently ongoing though. Only the middle shrine can be accessed so I recommend visiting this after its restoration is finished (if possible).

You gotta check this out just for the "success beer"! In the souvenir shops they have special edition Taiwanese beer that guarantees you success in whatever you do and also success potato chips! The building itself is quite pretty and photogenic. For the entrance price of 50NT I think it's worthwhile. I wish they had free tours because the Japanese speaking tour guides seems to give a lot more information than just the info plaques. Lots of hungry fish in the water waiting for you to feed!

Chihkan Tower, also known as Fort Provintia, is a historical site located in Tainan, Taiwan. It was originally built by the Dutch in the 17th century during their colonial rule of Taiwan and served various purposes over the years, including as a government center and a fortress. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction, showcasing the history of the region. Visitors can explore its museum and learn about the cultural heritage of Tainan. Don't forget to check out the beautiful courtyard and architecture when you visit!

Wow such a beautiful historic place. The building is still well maintained and they offer discount tickets for students and the elderly. It's usually not really busy here, so you can visit this place on your own pace. This building is kind of a mini museum.

This place is one of the must-sees in Tainan. It's located an a good area where is easy even to walk from downtown or from the main train station. Around is a lot of local food and drinks that you should try. Definitely, you won't regret this experience. Thank you 🤩

Not a long visit (30min or less), but worth a stop if you are nearby. One of the two buildings appears to be under restoration, so that limited our visit. I would have given this a 3/5, but the little water features, and koi pulled it up to a 4. Just a tremendous amount of fish and wildlife to be found in this little tiny space. The ponds and grounds appear very well maintained. The one building that is accessible is a older style temple, but still just a building. Not a huge amount of contents to view, and if you had been to Anping Old Fort you will have seen a lot of the same ideas (Old Dutch fort). We stopped in here to check it out and just spent some time relaxing after walking quite a bit that day.

Boring small little tower with a koi pond. Not worth visiting in my opinion. Just double-storey and not exactly a tower. Not much of a view as it’s so short. Do yourself a favour and save yourself the trip.

There wasn't a whole lot to see there or do but it was kind of nice simple attraction worth spending 15-20 minutes. The small souvenir shop is nice too. It was slightly expensive for Taiwanese standards.

Best to visit after the restoration work is completed. For a 70nt ticket, the Anping Fort has much more to offer. The main building is closed. Most explanation is in Chinese. The English explanation is hardly enough to showcase the significance of this place.

The temple was very nice and the grounds were relaxing but there was construction going on so we couldn’t see half of what was there.

Beautiful historic site, the garden area is very tranquil with the carp pond and running water.

Very small place , but it is great for kids to play with the Koi fish

Very pretty at night as it is illuminated. It's a quick visit,. There are a few signs explaining the story of the tower, and a model of what it was supposed to look like. It's 70 dollars to get in. Don't expect much other than a pleasant walk around and up.

Nice to visit and explore. They have a multi ticket for several attractions as well as a good student discount. Gift shop is also decent as well.

It is a very interesting place that should be visited by everyone. This way, everyone will be able to get to know and touch the history. Separately, there is a very well stocked souvenir shop as well as a small garden where one can rest for a few minutes. I recommend visiting it.

Fort Provintia offers a fascinating glimpse into Tainan and Taiwan's history. The well-preserved fort provides an immersive experience, and the elevated view from upstairs adds to the charm, overlooking a beautiful garden with vibrant Koi Carp—feeding them is a delight. As students, we benefited from a reduced entrance fee of 30 NTD (usually 70 NTD), making it an affordable and enriching visit. Don't miss the chance to explore the lovely souvenir shop, a perfect place to pick up beautiful mementos. A definite must-do for history enthusiasts! 🏰🎓🐟✨

It is a shame how the site was maintained. There were more damages done than restored. It seems the entire site was rebuilt and rebuilt over the years without conservation.

Nothing special. Just old historical building in Tainan. Admission is 50 NTS. Small gardens and two story building. If you have enough time in Tainan, it's OK to visit.

A very beautiful, historical place to learn the history of Taiwan.

50NT to get in. This was build by the Dutch in 1635 and was called Fort Provintia. It is now known as Chikan Tower. You can walk the square and feel the 300 year old history of this magnificent building. This is one of the most popular historical attraction of Tainan. A must see visit in Tainan.

After reading about this building in my Chinese language textbook, I had to swing by for a visit. Beautiful and I appreciate the wall of wishes that students have written about their upcoming exams (this one is a wish to not have to take exams in the first place).

This place was great. The staff at the gate were super helpful in guiding me to the English site guide. The grounds are beautiful even with the archeological dig in the front. I enjoyed feeding the fish. Tons of interesting information and the views were great. I was lucky enough to arrive at sunset and took day and evening photos. Lastly the lady that was in the gift shop was amazing and very helpful. I would definitely recommend.
