The ocean swallowed the pumpkin whole last august during a typhoon. I rated this a 4stars even though the veggie is gone as I enjoyed #Bennesse hotel as a whole!

This whimsical Kusama pumpkin has basically become the symbol of the island. I love it. It’s a simple, fun thing sitting on a pier out in the water. There’s often lines of folks waiting to take their snaps and they can often be irritatingly inconsiderate about the people waiting, while they take 85 versions of the same photo. However, you can sometimes see that there’s nobody there so you can take your time and enjoy your time with the pumpkin. 🎃 You can’t bicycle into any of the Benesse property but if you’d like to go to the pumpkin the East Gate is much closer or you can take the bus not far away. The best time of day for photos seems to be late afternoon but it can get more crowded. Final note, at high tide there was already seawater splashing up onto the pier, so I’m not sure it would survive another big storm. Enjoy it while you can.

Isn’t this the sole purpose of coming to Naoshima? Just to look at the Yayoi Kusama’s pumpkin which is the unofficial icon of the entire island? Park your bicycle and walk a distance from the bicycle parking area. If you are coming from Benesse house, pls be careful of the steep down slopes.

We took our rental electric bicycles to get here (a beautiful, exhilarating ride over the coastal hills!) right before sunset. Not much to say other than the fact that this spot is totally iconic!!!! Felt like a dream to finally visit it.

The yellow pumpkin is a great photo oppurtunity but don't let Naoshima fool you. It's good for a day trip but the locals are unwelcoming and the restaurants are expensive if they're open. They randomly close or just don't except you. It's very unwelcoming to tourists.

It is more than a yellow pumpkin. It is encompassed by the breathtaking sea, mountains and silence, all converging to create a stunning artwork. I had different impressions depending on the time of day—morning, sunset and night— each offering a unique perspective of the art. It is not that big but exudes a powerful presence, captivating my heart even from a distance. The sea surrounding it was remarkably clear and tranquil, with ferries passing behind the pumpkin, shuttling back and forth.

Finally managed to visit this far far island near Okayama! It was a dream came true for me. Thank God for the super fine weather!

So glad they found it after the typhoon. Worth a trip out. My favorite part of the free sections of the island! 100% recommend heading out to take a picture with it!

Art 🎭 is supposed to make you think, isn't it? For example, you can think about important life questions like why so many people are lining up in the cold wind 🍃 to pose with a yellow 🟡 pumpkin installed next to the beach while waiting your turn. It did make me feel like a turnip head 😂

It's just a yellow pumpkin 🎃 situated near the sea but the thing is not about the pumpkin but the breathtaking view of the sea behind it. I could say that the combination of both makes it a very worthy place to go if you are visiting Japan or Naoshima.

The pumpkin itself is fine, but the island is so stunning. When I arrived it was quite cloudy and overcast but luckily by the afternoon there were warm, sunny skies and the view beyond the pumpkin was beautiful. Even if you're not interested in visiting the museums, definitely give the island a visit.

Great island to visit! To only make sure to rent a bicycle immediately upon arrival as it sold out really fast. Alternatively the Bus route works really well but do prepare coins to pay for the bus.

If you' re riding a bike here, and had those steep up & down , take the other routes to go back to the town if you'd prefer mostly flat route.

Yellow pumpkin and beaches close to it is my fav part of the island. We’ve been there around 7-8am so we watched a sunrise and almost no people so you can take photos freely.

Absolutely worth a visit. Especially for any kusama fan. Stayed on the opposite side of the island and rented an e-bike to ride around the island for the day. This was one of our many stops as. You can take your bike a few minutes walk away where you can park by the water/bus station and then walk through the Benessee House station up towards the dock where the pumpkin is located. We went during the off season (January 2024) and there was no one around to fight for time to admire the sculpture. Can’t speak about the warmer months when there is probably more people fighting to get a good shot with this fun and whimsical piece. Undeniably a great addition to the scenic landscape and to an incredible place that is Naoshima.

Get there in the morning so there is less people, but it's a fun little photo opp :)

One of the Yayoi’s famous installation as it is thrown with a perfect calm sea background. When you are riding a bike, make sure to park your bike on the first parking slot after chichu museum and walk to the pumpkin while visiting other installation —- or you’ll regret your decision later on. I took a further detour and going uphill when going back — is no joke in Naoshima.

It's a pumpkin on a pier on Naoshima island! There are a few of these scattered about the island, and this is one of two I managed to visit. A nice place for a photo op. I'm not sure what else to say about it to be honest, there is a bigger red one near the main ferry port onto the island. So, yeah have your picture taken by a giant yellow pumpkin, it is a unique art installation.

The place is marked as temporarily closed, however, it's just a pier and it's open. It's marked as temporarily closed because the pumpkin is not there and was washed away by a typhoon in 2021. I rated it 3 stars since I don't understand the big hype behind that pumpkin.

One of the famous art icon of Yayoi Kusama. The sun is too shine that you hardly take a full color picture with you phone. But art is art, and the best part of this pumpkin is you can go and touch it by your self. And the day I visited was high tide, and I was lucky to see how the waves slightly smashed on the pumpkin and made it more wonderful when you looked far back - sky mirror with pumpkin. I was riding there and I urge you to do the same with me, as you can also feel how lovely Naoshima is.

Beautiful, tranquil place, fitting for a Yayoi pumpkin. It overlooks the water and the end of a pier.

I'm glad to see this yellow pumpkin here because I heard it is washed away by typhoon. You should visit here at night too.

This area is extremely cute. Even though busses ride to every museum/hotspot, I decided to walk and enjoy the view and little art installations. This work by Kusama is of course one of the highlights!

Since the Yellow Pumpkin is featured in most of the Naoshima brochures/online searches, I expected the island to be far more kitschy than it actually is. The pumpkin itself is total kitsch but the other exhibits on the island, that limit phototherapy, are amazing experiences not to be missed. The pumpkin itself is interesting but not the true highlight of Naoshima.

I was only in Hiroshima for a day. It was a spontaneous decision. I got to visit one museum and the infamous pumpkin. I am glad I caught it during the sunset as that was my intention, a japanese guy that was there said in the morning does not look as good, he insisted it was the perfect time.

The yellow pumpkin is near to Benesse House. I suggest you have to rent a electric bicycle to look in the Island for your own convenient.

This is one of the iconic pumpkins for the art islands, specifically to Naoshima.

The famous Naoshima yellow pumpkin, located near the Benesse pavilion and museum.

It's just as beautiful as the pictures I saw online. It was such a fine day with very few tourists. I was able to enjoy it by myself for a good half an hour. It's is worth taking the town bus to come here even if it's just for this. Get off at the last station at Tautsuji, and walk a little. You'll spot it.

It's near the art exhibit near the Bennesse hotel. Take the art tour and visit the museums and galleries around the island. Lots of interesting art of all kinds. There's a bus and a local taxi service or rent electric bicycles.

😠 Word of advice, not worth a visit. Only got to know that this place is one of the exhibition out of five different art site located on different part of the island.
