Traditional Japanese style hotel worth its price. Onsen, food and staff were pretty good. The only thing I wish to improve is the facility, some of which seemed has not updated for long, such as the hair dryer and the fridge in the room. Being traditional doesn’t mean keeping stuff old and inconvenient… But, again, it was nice place and at least worth the price for me.

This hotel is a bit past its prime and well into its twilight years but it still has plenty to offer to its guests. The check-in process was efficient but being the only foreigner in a somewhat remote area proved to be a challenge for my limited Japanese. Thankfully the clerk was patient with me and we muddled through. The onsen area was nice but the outdoor bath area was tiny and oddly directly under some balconies and a straight view from the convenience store across the way. Given you are naked, it felt pretty exposed but it wasn't a deal breaker. The evening dinner and morning breakfast was buffet style (you have time slots) and offered a wide variety of food. It was slightly above average for a buffet. Check out was easily completed at a digital kiosk though you do need to pay with cash at checkout. They offer a free luggage holding service which was very nice when you want to explore the gorge after check-out.

Room was a bit dated and the walls were a bit thin (could hear people walking in the corridor) but it was otherwise clean. Buffet breakfast and dinner was the highlight of our stay - good variety and tasted good!

The Japanese styled room was good with tatami bed. The staff tried his best to speak English during check in and we could understand some as we could read some kanji from the info sheet, but it can be difficult for westerners. The guests were asked to fill in a form to reserve slots for the public bath and were only allowed to use for 30min.The food was in buffet style and average.

This is a family-style ryokan. The buffet dinner was better quality and quantity than the all-you-can eat buffet near my home. It’s newly renovated, which is nice, but the building is old — in the room, the closet had a musty smell, and few outlets.

Nice hotel for town. Best cheapish hotel in the area. It was at some point a very nice hotel but it is showing it’s age. Still very nice and the service was excellent.

Great play area for the children! Good outdoor bath. Massage chairs. Good buffet dinner...but, terrible service & wonky A/C in the room

Beautiful hotel. We got a lovely tatami room for five people. There is a onsen, karaoke, game center and table tennis areas inside the hotel. Excellent location too. From the hotel, you can walk around the neighborhood and take Kurobe George Railway to enjoy beautiful mountainous scenes.

Got here by train and it was quite easy to get to the hotel from the station. Nice buffet dinner and breakfast. The room was a very nice traditional japanese style room with a small bath out on the terrace, which was super relaxing to jump into whenever I felt like it. Building looks a little bit worn.

I absolutely LOVE coming here! Spacious rooms snuggled within the hillside along the Kurobe River, natural onsen springs and excellent cuisines from morning till late night. I highly recommend taking their guided tours which includes an exquisite train ride through the wilderness.

Maybe my least favorite stay ever in Japan. The only thing good about this place is the location and quality of the onsen water. This place was so dirty, the vents in hotel rooms as well as common areas were caked with dust. Window sills in the eating areas were covered with cobwebs, dead bugs, and dust. Whole hotel reeked of cooked fish every morning. My in room water closet always smelled of fried foods, almost as if the oily air from the kitchen was venting into the room. One elevator was broken for the 3 days I was there and they don't have many elevators. Outdoor onsen had little to no view. Breakfast and Dinner buffet was okay at best. If you are a foreigner experiencig Japan for the first time, maybe you can have an okay time here. For those who are used to pleasant stays at hotels and ryokans in Japan, you will HATE this place.
