Super friendly and warm environment. There was an origami and a calligraphy lesson as well as an informal tea ceremony in the guesthouse over our stay. They gave us detailed maps of the things to do and see in Kanazawa and even gave us little gifts on our way out. Overall, it was a great experience!

Guest House Pongyi is an amazing place to stay. It isn't a fancy, trendy hostel like some in Tokyo. But It is a really nice, cozy place to stay. The hostel itself is a historic building that used to be a kimono shop and the staff are fantastic and will stop at nothing to make you feel at home. There is only one bathroom and shower, but it's not a big place so it's not a big deal. The dorms are nice and well maintained and the entire house is really clean. It isn't a 5 star hotel, and it doesn't try to be. It is the best value you can get in Kanazawa. The hosts have good English and will help you with any reservations you need. I really enjoyed my stay at Guest House Pongyi and would recommend it to anyone.

so as I land in Japan I got to the pongyi guesthouse. One of the most memorable and good experiences I've had in Japan and in general of all the places I've stayed in before. As soon as I and my friend arrived, we were welcomed in the most warmest and amazing way by Nina-san and Masaki-san are the people who run the place. They explained to us about the place, and the area, and also connected us to the attractions in the area. The place itself is so beautifully authentic, and the hospitality above every level I expected,Because it was a good, warm atmosphere despite the cold outside, I slept for about 12 hours because the bed was so comfortable and the room heated to the perfect temperature adapted to Japan's cold winter days. After two nights at the place me and my friend left, and unfortunately, I forgot my hat there, and the day after they sent me a message about the lost hat from the place, and to my luck was they made sure to send it back to me and check if the hat came to me. It is not at all obvious how they handled the case and also agreed to change the address they first sent the hat to and put extra effort into because I switch the hotel. Thank you so much for an amazing time in Japan

This place is better than any five star hotel. There’s nothing I can say about this place that hasn’t been already said. The glowing reviews are all 100% true. Even as a solo female traveller, I felt completely safe and welcome. The owners were so so so kind and lovely, and meeting the other guests was a delight too. A portion of the revenue generated from your stay will go towards charity, which is testament to the deep kindness of the hosts. The hostel is right next to the river, and stepping outside in the morning to hear the luscious sounds of water flowing and birds chirping was honesty one of the most joyful feelings in the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ♥️🌻🙏

Absolutely lovely little guest house with the best hosts!! Masaki-san and Nina-san made sure we enjoyed Kanazawa to the fullest. They gave us tips and recommendations and even organized a traditional diner / tour to the geisha’s district. Warmly recommend for travellers

Been there twice, close to main station, the staff are very nice people. I'd repeat again if I ever come back to Kanazawa

All of the other reviews are absolutely right, amazing price, very clean, new facilities and well maintained, I spent so much time just having meaningful conversations with the staff and they took very good care of every one!

We had a wonderful time at Pongyi! Masaki-san and Niina-san were perfect hosts, always planning activities for the evenings so that all guests could meet, while learning about the Japanese culture (origami, cooking...) We stayed in the Japanese private room, which was spacious and comfortable. Location of the guest house is great, not far from Kanazawa JR station and from interesting neighbourhoods (just follow the small rivers!). We felt very good vibes in this house, all guests had big smiles on their faces when leaving. We definitely hope to come back one day!

I absolutely loved it here. The guest house is right next to a little canal where you can see fireflies in summer if you're lucky. The hosts are so friendly and do everything they can to make you feel welcome. They put on workshops in the evenings and I got to meet their lovely friends while making some origami! They even made me an anko toastie for breakfast which was delicious and not on the usual menu. Thank you for taking care of me 💕

Nina-san and Masaaki-san were very kind and welcoming! They made some homestyle nabe for us which was delicious. Accommodations were quite comfortable and location near the train station is great.

Very friendly staff and customers. A great place to choose if your lacking a guesthouse to join. There is a sense of community and togetherness whenever I'm here, and it's a great experience always. good memories. I met the Swiss and a person from Hong Kong who were great people

Staying at Pongyi was one of the highlights of our trip in Japan. We had heard about it from other travelers because it offers a unique experience -- the owners are incredibly welcoming and go out of their way to offer you a memorable time. When we stayed, they gave us and other guests a calligraphy lesson! The house itself is beautiful (it was originally a kimono shop) and everything is very clean. Location is convenient to the train station. Would 100% recommend staying here.

What an amazing place! We were only in Pongyi for one night but it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Japan. The hosts, Masaki and Nina, are so kind, thoughtful and generous - we had a lovely welcome and they looked after us like we were family. The location was great, very close to the station but you wouldn't know it from the quietness of the house and the little stream running alongside it. The room (we had the private tatami room) was a very, very good size for Japan and we felt very comfortable. Unlike some traditional houses it was also very warm. The guest house also has an amazing ethos of caring for others and a small amount from each stay goes towards an orphanage in Myanmar, which we found very touching. I would 100% recommend this place - it is a gem.
