My boyfriend and I are 21 and 23 years old. We found ourselves homeless. We rented a room at Howard Johnson on 7-18-23. The following day at checkout, Jessica the new property manager, proposed the idea for me to work there. She stated I would be working for my room. The room was $39 when I rented, so she said I’d only be working for a few hours a day. When I came to work she stated that she expected my boyfriend and I to both work, but we would get lunch every day. It didn’t sound like much but given our position, we took the deal. We cleaned moldy, bed bug and roach infested rooms for 5 days straight with no lunch, no pay, and the opportunity to stay in an “out of order” room that she was unable to rent due to living conditions. We were forced to work from 9:30 AM until whenever she decided , which was as late as 7:30PM for us and as late as 11PM for other people. It was not what we agreed to on the first day. Jessica and her children at BRYANT PROPERTY MANAGEMENT take advantage of people with no place to go and force them to work in disgusting conditions for no pay and a room that’s only worth $50 on a good night. After she is done with her “employees,” usually within 3-4 days, she kicks them out and leaves them with nowhere to go with no warning. I am disgusted with what’s happening to Howard Johnson by Wyndham located on north Monroe street in Tallahassee Florida. We have reached out to Wyndham directly in hopes to shine light on these atrocities and get justice for everyone involved. Many of the people being taken advantage of don’t have the means or the ability to stand up for themselves.

This is the single worst motel/hotel I've ever seen. Disgusting is only the beginning. Everything is broken, moldy and old. No wifi, no TV channels at all. And when you wake up , all the roaches come out and run everywhere. It says breakfast but don't worry, they don't serve anything, you wouldn't want to eat anything from here anyway. Absolutely the worst! And I love how they openly admit they aren't even up to code. And looks like everyone that works here, lives here.

Our first room was not clean We were moved to another room that was clean but not set up. No garbage container in room, only sheets on bed. No ice bucket. No breakfast. Garbage was piled at the top of the stairs and outside rooms. Only some of the lights and outlets worked. The man who switched our room moved a working TV to the room and brought towels; had he not been so friendly and helpful, we would have left.

Where to start... might as well from the beginning. First, we had to wait for the lady to return to the front desk. She was apparently at home, at 4:30 in the afternoon, instead of at her job. It took about 10 minutes for her to show up, and we checked in. Great. Secondly, when we got in there, we were hit with the smell of bleach and significant water damage, that room reeked of mold. The floors were really nice, and thats where the complimentary factors stop. The pillows didn't have pillow cases, the sheets were dingy, there were large black spots on the blankets, there was a mixture of toiletpaper and washcloths covering the smoke detector, and paper stuffed in the peephole of the door. The side table drawer was missing. Where was it, who knows? Also, someone had some really nice, rotting wooden microwave stands out front from the check in place. Getting new bedding was probably out of the question, their washer and dryer was by the dumpster, but honestly we didn't even care to try. That lady had to leave the hotel and go home to get change for our hotel reservation payment. She had to run back to her house AGAIN to get my refund, but she did. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you're truly desperate. Now at least you know what you're getting.

Rooms could use an update but are comfortable! The new owners are working on remodeling and updating everything! They've run out unwanted guests and are making it a great atmosphere to stay. Husband and I stayed there over a month ago and it was definitely questionable, with the new owners we didn't have to worry about anything and he's been there almost a week now, for work. They are quick to help and answer any questions.

This was the worst, by far, place I’ve ever stayed. The first thing you see when you enter the drive is an overflowing dumpster. The rooms were dirty, had to ask for towels every day. House keeping never cleaned the room while we were there. We did notice them cleaning other rooms but there were no clean linens on their cart! There were sketchy patrons hanging around. Saw a “lady of the night” and her “friend” conducting business by the ice machine. The pool was not useable. Had to have key cards reprogrammed every time we left the room. Filled bags with garbage sitting in parking lot over night ( probably because the dumpster was over flowing). Don’t waste your $$. Go to Walmart & buy a tent!

This place does not even deserve one star. This was the most disgusting hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I never leave bad reviews and honestly don’t think I am picky about hotels at all, but people need to know to how bad this place is. Stains all over the sheets and towels (looks like they were not replaced between guests), stains on the walls, sketchy crowd outside all hours, and the pool was unusable because there was so much trash and debris in it. STAY AWAY!! Seriously, a Motel 6 or literally anywhere else would have to be better.

The most horrific experience ever. NASTY NASTY NASTY. If you like hearing Cardi B music blasting at 2 am this place is for you. If you are an entomologist and like bugs in your room this place is for you. Want to experience what it is like being in an episode of Cops.... then go here. Absolutely disgusting. Love the standard replies from the bot saying the problems will be addressed. Can't believe I booked this place without reading other people's reviews. Mouse droppings in the broken old furniture. Disgusting

Absolutely WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! First got there I was told it would be 20/25 minutes before a room was ready because they had no sheets that were clean for the beds, FIRST RED FLAG. Came back later only to be told the sheets still weren’t ready so they gave me another room that was ready but the room had was ALREADY occupied which could’ve ended badly for me if someone had seen me going in their room, SECOND RED FLAG. Finally got another room AND it was FILTHY from the sheets to the pillow cases AND the shower curtain had mold plus the toilet wouldn’t flush not to mention a stray cat felt the need to just walk in our room! The BIGGEST red flag is that I noticed that linen was outside in a bin I’m assuming waiting to be washed but it was by a the dumpster which is very UNSANITARY ewwww! Most definitely did not stay, got my kids and LEFT! Please don’t stay here!!!!

Sign on the front door said "No walk-ins". Sign out front said "Better than we were". Not an auspicious start. Check-in was simple and quick at about 8 pm. The very friendly man (He was on duty again/still at check out at 9 am) at the desk said the TV needed to be replaced and got it done before I got to the room. Sadly, the Roku service didn't work for about 45 minutes after the first 15 or so. The room needs some work, too. There was a hole in the wall (small), the chair's covering needs replacing desperately, the door needs to be repainted because it's peeling. The floor was dirty. There was only a sheet on the bed, no blanket. The promised breakfast wasn't available, the room it should've been in was being used for storage and needed renovation desperately. The cable outlet plate was not screwed into the wall, just hanging free. The bed was comfy, the room was quiet and that is what is truly necessary. The bed bugs however, were definitely NOT necessary. I had over a dozen bites on my neck & shoulder that indicates they were in the pillows.

I’m so disgusted with the way the room looked. I was afraid and felt unsafe. Molded heater. Holes in wall. Hot water heater constantly running. The shower broken. I don’t recommend this hotel to anyone period. False advertisement. The rooms are horrific

Where to start? Broken window pane, drill bit and screws on window sill, window was actually ajar and I didn't notice until the morning! Urine dribbles on the dirty toilet, no smoke detector, gross stuff splattered on several walls. The floors were 100% dirty like they haven't been swept or mopped in a month of daily guest turnover. Advertised hot breakfast is coffee and granola bars. Washing machine in front of their coffee maker, so even getting a cup was a challenge. The guests, OMG scary to say the least! People high on drugs walking from room to room, hollering without regard to other paying guests. I've lived in Southern California barrios where you hear gunshots in the distance. I feel safer there than at this hotel.

We didn’t even get a blanket after asking. No toilet paper! Nasty sheets! And the hotel is ran by dopeheads! I also got bit in about 5 spots while sleeping. Pretty sure it’s bed bugs. If the owner reads this review, you should fire the whole staff and start over before they run your hotel into the ground!

Lady wasn't even here, as soon as she showed up to check us in then immediately left. Bugs dead on bed, sheets stained, mold on ac, fridge, inside fridge, and bathroom. Toilet broke and won't stop running. Room reeks of smoke, ac barely working. Something sticky on floor. No towels. Gad tank sitting on coffee pot placement in office (can see seen from outside window). Parking lot covered in trash. Cleaning supplies right outside hotel room. Pool closed due to health regulations per Florida Health department.

The extremely overworked front desk clerk was extremely nice and very accommodating. The rooms were recently remodeled. However, a fresh coat of paint doesn't cover the fact that everything is falling apart, and the owners are having a hard time keeping the lights on. When we checked in our room only had one towel because they didn't have enough linens for the whole property - they were in the wash. They did deliver some to us when they were available, but we had to ask. We didn't realize that they didn't have enough sheets until we tried to sleep - no comforter, no sheet, just a thin blanket, which was a problem because the AC would change temperature randomly. The bathroom was in disrepair, despite being newly remodeled. It also has the unforgivable sin of the light switch being outside the bathroom instead of inside. There was a half used bottle of conditioner in the shower that definitely wasn't from this hotel chain (everything comes in packets here). The room appeared clean, but our feet were very dirty almost immediately after stepping out of the shower - obviously the floors aren't being cleaned. There is a general "unsafe" vibe about the hotel that I couldn't pin down to a single thing, but was not helped by the fact that our door did not have a security latch. There were bags of trash by many rooms, the dumpster was overflowing, and the breakfast area was being used as a laundry pile.

Grossest place I have a ever stayed. When we first walked in the lady asked us if we want to see our room first because the last few people to come in complained *MAJOR RED FLAG* and then we got to the room…. Stained carpets and sheets, sheets had holes in them, the pillows were grey (stained grey), not white like supposed to be, roaches in the room, pee on the bathroom floor, a smell of smoke even though “non smoking room”, the pool was green and black, there were people smoking weed on the stairs, the dumpster was overfilled, and so much more. Doesnt even deserve a star. Run from this place as fast as you can.

This place was a terrible experience. Outside there was trash just outside my room and like every room. The bed was made up, but the sheets had stains. There were cockroaches in the bathroom. The floors were dirty. The furniture was falling apart. The walls were very thin. I could hear what was going on next door. Including the bed rocking-a pretty frisky. neighbor it sounded like. I will never stay here again. I surprised the rating that it has.

DO NOT BOOK HERE! The pictures are deceiving! This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had at any hotel. The pictures on your website are misleading. This is NOT what the hotel looks like. The rooms are disgusting. The bed skirts are ripped, the sheets are stained, no toiletries, no toilet paper, one towel, everything is dirty or broken. I would never advertise this place as livable for anyone. This was completely false advertising. This hotel needs to be condemned and never open to the public. Extremely disappointed. We didn’t even put our bags down it was so bad- we opened the door and left. When I told the girl at the desk we couldn’t stay there she said “I’m not surprised.” The front lobby was cluttered with junk and the area for breakfast was filthy and there was no place to sit. And there was no way breakfast would even be served there even though it offers it. Everything was dirty or broken. Absolutely worst experience.

Run not walk away. It was clean but a lot of issues. Location is good. Staff is good. Rooms are clean. The mattresses should have been replaced 5 years ago. The hairdryer was broken into pieces and no TV

Arrived to check in and it took forever to get our key cards. Something about the computer not working. Staff was smoking inside lobby and standing outside smoking and appeared to be just hanging out. Spend 5 minutes in our room before deciding to leave and stay somewhere else. There was roaches everywhere. Stains on the bedding. Floors were dirty. Hole in the wall above the shower. Front desk lady was very nice and said we could get a refund by calling the manager on Monday. So will see if that happens. Very very dirty. I would not stay here.

It's not the cleanest place by far. The sheets were stained, paint was chipping everywhere, it was just grungy. The walls are so thin we could hear everything. We heard the people on the sides of us and they were older not being loud or anything just normal conversating, showering, etc and we could hear them like we were in the room with them. The staff is very nice and tries to be very accommodating with what they have to work with.

I have stayed at the Howard Johnson several times over the last year and I feel like it's time to give them some credit my room has recently been painted the air worked fine staff was friendly and the property was beautiful full of color and new mulch. Even the coin laundry worked. I have stayed in most of the motels in the area none of them really work with people like they do either.

The way I look at it, you have to rate places like this based upon price and location. The room was clean except the floors could have used a really thorough mopping. We had everything we needed immediately upon request and I'm positive if I'd asked for someone to come mop, it would have been done asap. We really enjoyed our stay and it was a very convenient place to get to from the interstate.
