Drove up the mt from maebashi, the route up during offpeak is beautiful. As its offpeak not alot of things are open but it lets you enjoy the scenery, as the lake was frozen one of the local establishments have ice fishing too. Inside the shrine i noticed that folks come here to get married too! And in future, if i get a wife i would love to get married here too lol

A bright red shrine in the bank of a lake. It is beautiful and good getaway place in the mountains for the weekend.

Main enshrined deity: Akagi Daimyojin, etc. Shikinaisha (Ronsha) I thought it was a shrine with a gentle atmosphere from the red shrine building and the pictures I saw, but it was not. It is a powerful shrine that oozes with majesty. No wonder it is famous as a power spot. There are many types of amulets and talismans, and many of them have cute designs, so the shop is also a must-see.

This place is beautiful! However, I think the place should have more toilets available for the visitors. There was only one in the parking lot to be used by men and women and, even in a day where there were not so many people, there was people lined up to use that single toilet. There were more toilets available, but those places were closed due to maintenance. This is the only negative thing I could mention about this place. The surroundings are great! Recommend.

Akagi Castle is next to a super beautiful lake and can take beautiful photos. I went on Friday, February 9, 2024 and there was a lot of snow and the lake was frozen. The view is fantastic. I couldn't enter the temple but I threw a coin and said my prayer. There is a store that sells omamoris and omikujis. If you go for a walk in Akagi you need to pass by the castle. It doesn't even take 30 minutes to see everything.

Rating: ★★★★☆ Located in the heart of the gorgeous Akagi Mountains, the Akagi Shrine is nothing short of a haven for those seeking tranquility, spiritual connection, and historical exploration. Enveloped in the natural beauty of Maebashi, this shrine speaks to your soul, inviting you on a journey steeped in Japanese heritage. To begin with, the travel to the shrine itself is a pleasure, as you pass through verdant landscapes that are mesmerizing, particularly during the autumn season when the leaves are a kaleidoscope of red, orange, and yellow. The air is crisp and refreshing, a soft reminder of nature's rejuvenating power. On arriving at the shrine, you're greeted by an imposing Torii gate, a traditional Japanese gate marking the entrance to the shrine, almost as though it's a portal to a different time. The solemn beauty of the Akagi Shrine, with its deep red buildings contrasting against the lush green surroundings, is captivating. The shrine is well-maintained, showing the years but in a manner that feels historic rather than aged. Every piece of architecture, from the Honden (main hall) to the Torii gate, has a story to tell. The spiritual ambiance of the shrine is palpable, inviting you to pause, reflect, and perhaps, find solace. One slight drawback, however, is the lack of English signage or guided tours. Visitors with limited understanding of Japanese culture or language may find it a bit challenging to grasp the historical and cultural significance of the shrine. But even then, the sheer beauty of the place and the peaceful ambiance make the visit worthwhile. The Akagi Shrine also provides a unique vantage point to appreciate the exquisite Lake Ono, further adding to the overall experience. The view of the lake, shimmering under the afternoon sun, with the backdrop of the majestic Akagi Mountains, is utterly breathtaking. And let's not forget the festival! The annual Akagi Shrine Festival, celebrated in the autumn, is an event not to be missed. It's a vibrant display of local culture, filled with traditional music, dance, and food, providing a delightful taste of Maebashi's community spirit. Overall, Akagi Shrine is more than just a religious site—it's a testament to time, tradition, and nature. Despite some minor inconveniences, the sheer serenity and the historical value it offers are unarguably compelling. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or a spiritual seeker, a visit to Akagi Shrine promises an enriching experience. My rating of Akagi Shrine is 4 out of 5 stars. While there's room for improvement in visitor assistance, the shrine's rich history, serene environment, and unique setting make it a must-visit destination in Maebashi, Japan.

This is a magical shrine embedded within a small slice of ancient forest. I lived in Maebashi as an English teacher and coming here was by far the most amazing experience I had during my time here. By the way, the website given above links to a different Akagi Shrine; this one is often called the Miyosawa Akagi Shrine to differentiate from the more well known one on top of Mt. Akagi.

The drive to the lake at the top of the mountain is worth it, but don't go too late in the day, things close rather early. This shrine has many interesting and unique omamori.

One of my favorite secret places in Japan. It has a temple inside an island, inside a lake inside the crater of a dormant volcano. A mystic peaceful spot. The lake has huge koi fishes, you can buy food to feed them at the gift shop next to the temple.

It was cold at -4℃😱But the swamp was frozen and the snow was powdery, so I was impressed by the scenery and snow that I don't usually see! The contrast between the white of the snow and the red-based building of Akagi Shrine was amazing! You can leave the goshuin as a note.

The bridge nearby is currently closed. The drive through the forest is worthwhile for driving enthusiasts. Peaceful and quaint area.

The first time I went there, it coincided with a marathon race, so traffic was restricted, but Akagi Shrine was very quiet and peaceful. However, it is not possible to go there by bike from autumn to early spring due to snowfall...

Akagi shrine in winter is very beautiful as you can see Onuma lake with amazing view. We can walk on ice into the lake. It’s very cold as temperature around -8 degree in afternoon.

Serene especially very early in the morning. It's on a spit of land in the middle of a crater lake. Not to mention it is an Initial D location for all you car enthusiasts out there.
