This is the only gym in the area that has a kids room, so we love that! But the weight room has a musty fungal smell. It permeates through the building and has smelled the same way for over a year. So, I’m sure this review is not going to surprise management. I wipe the equipment down before and after use but other people don't seem to do that here. I’m grossed out. I carry multiple gym memberships because I will not go here if I’m not with my kids. Please clean and sanitize, the community will appreciate it!

The South Tampa YMCA has truly exceeded my expectations. The facility not only maintains a high standard of cleanliness but also radiates a positive and inviting atmosphere. The staff, consistently friendly, is dedicated to ensuring a holistic well-being for each member, providing guidance that goes beyond just physical fitness. The state-of-the-art equipment is not only in great working order but is also strategically arranged to optimize the workout experience. It’s evident that the staff takes pride in maintaining a seamless and efficient environment for everyone. The pools, including the lap pool and kids’ pool, are gems of the facility. The crystal-clear water and well-maintained surroundings create a serene and enjoyable aquatic experience. The lifeguards, qualified and professional, not only prioritize safety but do so with a courteous and approachable demeanor. Having been a member for over a year, I can confidently say that the South Tampa YMCA has consistently provided a hassle-free and positive fitness journey. The location itself adds to the appeal, making it a standout choice for anyone seeking a comprehensive and enjoyable wellness experience.

Yet another ymca that doesn’t want people at it. The staff were all very rude. The lady in childcare said they were closing an hour early because of staffing. The pool splash pad closes one hour early. But it is magically available for camp kids to use after pool hours. Very unfair when I have to tell my kid they can’t swim because we are special like the campers. Additionally the safety latch on the main pool was broke with many campers right next to it. The emergency exit that leads from the pool to the road was not latched or closed the entire time I was there with many children playing near it. I will not be renewing my membership.

I really enjoy going to this YMCA. They have the best classes and the energy from all the instructors is absolutely fantastic! They are so enjoyable and just a hoot to chat with. I love getting to know them as well as the people who attend them. I met so many wonderful people there. The staff is equally friendly and superful helpful with everything from getting you checked in at the front to helping you with the equipment if you don't know how to use it. This is the Y I want to use all the time.

Great place — staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The facility is always clean. Members and staff are all usually smiling! They offer Pedaling for Parkinson’s in the Spin room, which helps me manage my symptoms. Love this branch!

I have been a member for less than a month, I used the punching bag once, whe I went back few days after, the bag was not there anymore, two weeks ago I talked to Joanna and Last week to Nina about the bag and I was told that the chain is broken and she would put additional workorder, I stopped by today which is a week later and it is not fixed and no one was there to talk to, they're all at a meeting, I waited for 30 minutes and no one showed up, then I left. It is disgusting that they charge 60$ a month membership and the place only have one punching bag, which has been broken for more than 2 weeks!!!

Probably one of the best YMCAs in Tampa in terms of customer service. One of the main advantages at this location is that the pool stays open an hour later than other YMCAs. The pool is peaceful, without the often annoying and blaring music that other facilities insist on broadcasting. The gym is decent with a positive vibe, and a diverse mix of ages.

My husband was referred to the YMCA from Tampa General Hospital outpatient rehabilitation. He uses their FES bike for electrical stimulation for his legs as he is a quadriplegic. This program is wonderful and very helpful and without it we would not be able to benefit from the program.

I love this place! Very friendly staff and great classes! The pools are amazing! Just FYI since I’ve seen some people complain about the pool closures…. For safety they have to close the pools for lightening within 8 miles(usually temporarily) so even if it looks sunny at the pool, there could be a storm not far off that makes it so the pools need to close for a bit.

This facility has fantastic equipment, classes, and staff. They are always professional and ready to serve their members. There's so much available for the entire family! I highly recommend it.

The facilities here are decent, but... I ended a membership at the South Tampa YMCA because I was disappointed with my experience. While attending volleyball games, we found that the reffing was of poor quality, and the rules set and progression for the athletes were subpar. The 12-14 year olds playing at an 8-year-old level was regressive for their development and frustrating for both players and parents. Moreover, the tumbling program at the South Tampa YMCA is severely lacking. It’s a glorified Saturday morning daycare. Additionally, my children were in the basketball program last year, and one of the coaches openly allowed his daughter to bully other kids. He had no control over her behavior, which made for a fairly unpleasant experience for other kids and families. On top of that, the Sports Director, Kayla Schlichting, was unfair and disrespectful when my sister and I were playing basketball on a separate, empty court during my daughter's volleyball practice. Despite me having a membership, and my sister having a valid visitor's pass, we were berated and made to stop playing. Meanwhile, a man was allowed to shoot baskets during warm-ups and in between sets during actual volleyball games. It was clear that this man had a close relationship with Kayla, which made us feel even more excluded and unwelcome. Additionally, the South Tampa YMCA does not take into account your schedule despite openly claiming they will when you sign up for sports. This is frustrating for those with busy schedules who are trying to make time for activities. It’s not that hard to implement better quality reffing, a more appropriate rules set and progression for athletes, more responsible coaching practices, and better scheduling practices in the future. It’s a matter of effort. Additionally, staff members should treat all visitors with kindness, respect, and fairness, regardless of their friendship with other members. I also recently heard a member speak of witnessing an incident where there was a youth member lifting weights, being spotted by another youth. They were struggling to get the bar off of his neck and apparently there was no attendant in that area. Overall, my experience at the South Tampa YMCA was disappointing and frustrating. This is why I’ve declined to continue my membership. There are simply better options for virtually everything they offer. It's important for the management team to address these issues and improve the experience for all members and visitors.

The facility is always so clean, smells good, everything in perfect working order. The staff are there with the information you need to take advantage of the programs and manage your membership. Plenty of parking, ease of access, and up to date, easy to see notices about what's happening.

The “Family Pool” hours don’t start until noon. This is mainly due to a aquatics class for seniors at 11AM that used to be in the warmer pool but because it has grown in size, they have moved it to the Family Pool and now there’s no pool available for families with little kids until after noon. A lot of south families don’t have pools in their home due to lack of space, oak tree restrictions, etc., not having the YMCA Family Pool available in the mornings is frustrating. Thanks.

Love this Y & all the classes it offers. I love the water aerobics classes. The staff is wonderful.

We've been waiting to access the pool for the last 90 minutes. It's mid-summer and it's a bright/sunny day. The aquatics manager is unresponsive... unacceptable. We're paying customers. Do better.

I really enjoy my yoga and meditation classes at the Y. The instructors and staff are great and always willing to help.

Our 3 year old was scared to go under water this season, AND I had no resistance from him before each lesson. Five stars for that alone. He adored his instructors. Great experience. We keep coming back, and he continues to progress.

My first complaint was an elderly man on his phone for over 17 minutes in the clearly marked “no cell phone area” … I was on a machine and trying to read, I don’t think people realize that we all tend to speak louder on cell phones…. My second complaint was trying to enjoy a swim with blaring loud rap music playing .

I love going to the YMCA. Only thing I was kind of worried was signing a waiver like if something happened to me and my family they’re not responsible for it. It is pretty tricky waiver too. You have to read it thoroughly but other than that I love to be at the YMCA. It is wonderful. Some of the staff are nice. Some of them are Eric and some of them are not so nice. The new manager they have he’s nice I like him. He’s a younger gentleman but the other manager Scott he’s not so polite with me. I don’t really care too much for him my daughter visit for summer camp and she got her head split from swimming because the staff told her to jump in after she said she couldn’t swim, this is in 2019. I wasn’t so happy with camp at the YM Because my daughter got hurt and she had a mark on her head I was not happy at all but otherwise it’s OK

Family friendly, excellent choice of classes for adults and children, along with a very helpful and able staff. This Y also provides child care, and I love using the pools! I swim laps in the lap pool, and enjoy the family pool with my grandchildren.

I love that I can park right by the pool and use the pool locker room. Always clean and usually can get right in to swim laps, shower and be on my way.

I was referred to the YMCA to focus on recovery from the after effects of a few years of treatments and surgeries from cancer. The “livestrong” program has taken me further along to regaining myself than I ever imagined possible. I’m continuing the work I started with Nancy and Bert (thank you) by participating in other classes at the YMCA and beginning/doing all the actives I once did and look forward to again. Everyone I’ve met; staff and members have been helpful, nice and supportive. Thank you South Tampa YMCA

Clean facilities, not too crowded, great hours open. Much better than other local gyms that pack you in like sardines :) 10/10

This YMCA is amazing compared to the others in the area!! I signed up for a membership last week here and was pleasantly surprised with how clean and nice it was. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Everybody is happy to be there and genuinely is interested in being around the children all day long. No matter how hot it is outside, or how late in the day, the counselors are kind and patient to children and adults alike. The staff is top notch.

Kids have always come home excited with all the activities during camp and school days out and even parents night out. Staff is super friendly helpful and the place is super clean. I am so happy with my decision to be a member

The YMCA itself is actually very nice, but their “gymnastics” programs are basically a babysitting service. Was looking to get my daughter into an intro class and we quickly learned that most of the kids in the class were just repeating it over and over so their parents had a babysitter. Much better programs out there.

Great place for all ages to workout and keep up with any physical therapy, muscle building and toning. There is plenty of equipment for older people with limited movement and abilities. The trainers can customize programs for you.

The Y is a great place for exercise of most any type. They have a host of first class equipment and the staff is always ready to help. The lap pool is one of the nicest around. I've enjoyed my membership for many years. You won't be disappointed.

I came at 4.47 PM on Sunday 12/26/2021. I walked inside of the lobby and the employee who said her name was Monica kicked me out . She said that the gym is closed . I returned to my car and noticed the time then I came back and knocked on the door at 4.50 PM . The door was locked and she opened it. I pointed out that I still have 10 mins for a quick work out , but she refused to let me in . I’ve been a member for over a year as well as my family , my husband volunteers at this YMCA to coach kids. This is the 1st time I’m dealing with such unprofessionalism and unethical attitude. The gentleman who was outside as well said that they never lock the doors before the closing time . Why do you hire people that don’t want to work and kick your members out ?

If you're looking for an affordable way to access a variety of full length groups fitness classes this is the gym for you. Class times begin early and go late to accommodate those who work out before and after work, and they even have classes midday if you have a flexible schedule and want to do a mid day group workout. From zumba and cycling to yoga and barre, to weight training and boot camp, they offer enough options that you can get a varied workout every day.

It’s more than a gym to workout. It’s about relationships. Everyone is so friendly compared to other gyms I visit. Our instructor encourages us and brings in a wholistic view of health; mind, body & soul. I love it! Their aquatic center is beautiful and well maintained. It’s design allows me to feel more like I am at a relaxing park and not like stuck in my old crowded high school gym class.

My first interaction walking up to the desk was not pleasant. The staff was not inviting, and acted like I was inconveniencing them. I asked them about a day pass, they said "we don't do that". For a company built on "missions and values" why this location tries to ostracize themselves as a country club is beyond me. I was not even allowed to tour the facility under the pretense of wanting to see if it was appealing enough to join. This completely contradicts what the YMCA (organization) says they are attempting to do. This does not feel like a place that is open to kids and people. This experience felt like they weren't encouraging kids to partake in active sports, they just want to be a stuffy nosed south Tampa golf house. I do not recommend this based on my experience, utterly embarrassing for a YMCA
