We stayed 5 nights and really enjoyed our stay at Alunan with the Unlimited package that we definitely recommend to take. The snorkeling excursions were amazing. Also our room was very well located, clean, well equiped and facing the infinity pool and the beautiful ocean view. Also few steps from the restaurant which was very convenient. October is the best period to go there: there are very few people and the weather is fantastic. The only two downsides was the food and the beach down the hotel . We were disappointed about the quality provided. We stayed away from all fried dishes. The breakfast is okay but lacks diversity. This place would have been perfect if they had a chef properly trained I think The non-alcohol coktails are however super tasty and done with fresh fruits with non added sugar. Regarding the beach, there were rubbish bags, plastic bottles a bit everywhere. If the staff could clean it 15 minutes a day it would really make a difference. We would expect at least a clean beach when we pay such amount of money. The staff is very polite and always here to help with anything you might need. Overall we recommend this place !

*A resort with SOUL* Alunan is a no-brainer choice for any visit to Perhentian Islands. I can write my face off, but it really comes down to this reason โ€“ Alunan Resort is a resort with SOUL. The resort was founded (and is still run by) passionate divers, and their ongoing conservation and awareness efforts are proof of their passion towards the sea. Everything in the resort is a reflection of their dedication not only to the sea, but also to the enjoyment of every guest that stays with them, for they count themselves guests of the resort too. For the same reason why artisanal coffee joints are a million times better than Starbucks, so is why Alunan better than any other resort on the island. The above pretty much says it all, but for the sake of completion, here are other points: - Cleanliness is top notch everywhere โ€“ in rooms, toilets, restaurant, walkways, cafe, reception, even in the shared restrooms and the mainland office. - Hot water shower with great pressure, cold aircon, cold fridge, powerful fan โ€“ yes itโ€™s expected, but good to know they deliver. - Very friendly English-speaking staff is obvious, but Alunan goes a step further by employing marine biologists to not only manage their coral growth and conservation efforts, but also to take you on your excursions (for me, at least โ€“ may or may not be all the time). Seriously, how often can you say you got a marine biologist to take you around Perhentian? - The food is great, and I say this as a seasoned Malaysian foodie. I would go for Asian flavours more than the western fare though, itโ€™s really top-notch thatโ€™s hard to match even in Kuala Lumpur. - They expanded during the Covid downtime, so if you make your trip now youโ€™d get to enjoy all the awesome new stuff eg the new cafe, new restaurant, new pontoon, new spa, etc - Lastly, the corals there are simply awesome, and since itโ€™s right in front of the resort, itโ€™s literally free. Just jump in and swim for hours and hours on end. Needless to say, the water visibility is amazing from morning to night, and the biodiversity at the resort is to die for. If youโ€™re a good swimmer, follow the left shoreline for ~1km (about 45 mins on a leisurely swim enjoying the corals along the way) to reach the โ€œsecret gardenโ€ filled with sea anemone and clownfish (Nemo). If youโ€™re lucky, you might even catch black-tipped reef sharks, a wandering barracuda, even dolphins if youโ€™re ultra lucky. I would write more but you get the point. Alunan is awesome. This is not a place to save money at. Come with a budget of RM1,000 per person per day (inc hotel stay โ€“ about USD250), at least 4D3N (ideally a week), and youโ€™ll go home with the best memories Perhentian has to offer. And please, for the love of the sea, please buy a rash guard before coming, or buy from Alunan, to minimise the need for sunscreen. Sunscreen kills corals, even in super-low concentrations. Please donโ€™t litter, please donโ€™t damage the corals, swim responsibly, so this place stays beautiful for generations to come. Thank you Team Alunan for making my trip so awesome. I look forward to returning soon!

What a wonderful time we had at the Alunan resort! It's the perfect place to go with your family or with your partner - you can relax, enjoy the sun, dive and swim on those pristine waters! The staff is super friendly and helpful and the food on the Malaysian restaurant or in the Italian sunset deck is great! Of course it's a bit more expensive than the average Malaysian meal, but you are on an island, so it's normal that it's a bit pricier - but still, the portions are huge and most of the times we, as a couple, we were perfectly fine with one starter and one main dish to share. The room is super spacious and very comfortable. We've also done the Open water diving course and it was an amazing experience! Thank you Ming for your patience, joy and enthusiasm! It was really great! We'll be back :) Mariana & Luรญs

An exclusive resort, the room is nice & clean. All room is with an upper deck private balcony so you can sit, relax & enjoy the scenery. For any unfit such disabled or elderly, please bear in mind that this resort is located on a hillside, so if your room is located at the top, there is a sloping walkway you need to tolerate. The beach is full of coral & rocks, not a white sandy beach, so not really suitable for swimming but you can enjoy snorkeling. There is a walking track so you can walk to the nearest village too.

Way to overpriced for what you get; Food is too expensive and not that good, breakfast is pretty weak compared to what i have had in other hotels where u pay 1/3 of the price. The location of the resort is pretty bad, theres nothing nearby. They try to get all your money but you definetily dont get the value for it. Dont recommend at all. But i have to admit the staff were very friendly and tried to help whenever they could. The view was nice too.

I really don't understand the ratings here... In short, it doesn't do justice to the price you pay. - not always warm water - weak breakfast offer - small pool - they are in the middle of the conversion, expansion - location , nothing nearby - not always warm water in the room - Power failure - got dirty towels - beach not inviting - after rain our bathroom stank - not really clean, everything looks a bit like improvised - restaurant too expensive and not good at all but + friendly employees who always greet and try their best

Quiet and serene place. A plus side: all the stairs are good for your cardio exercises.

Alunan Resort just set themselves at a very high standard for being an absolute gem of a resort. The resort is set amongst the natural vegetation, it blends into its surroundings. Located in a more secluded section of the island with its own private beach, you are able to spot tropical fishes, black tip sharks and even a baby stingray! The hospitality is superb, big shout out to Shirley and the rest of the crowd for allowing us to ship our party needs beforehand, allowing us to use their facilities and arranging our luggage to our rooms. Without exception, from gardener to reception to restaurant to the snorkeling crew, they were all friendly, courteous and delightful people. Literally, one of the best resorts in Malaysia.

Looks stunning from the outside. This paradise is so tranquil, wonderful getaway from the city hustle and bustle. A few days spent here felt recharged. Was there before Raya holiday to avoid the crowds for the trip. The resort's design is spacious and quite spread out, you don't see many people around. Feels private because of that. Enjoyed: - Warm and friendly hospitality by everyone we came across - Beautiful views from the roof deck, and gorgeous sunset from pontoon - Calm ocean - Sea life at the front of resort - Very clean throughout the resort - Environmental conservation efforts - particularly, coral. No plastic bottle used but lend us their aluminium bottles with a few water dispenser around resort. - Spacious room and bathroom - Getha bed - quite comfortable - Well maintained property - owner taking good care of it - Breakfast - pleasantly surprised to get Brie Cheese and Nasi Lemak really yummy, pipping hot rice - Dinner - Prefer the Asian dishes - Thai green curry and chicken soup were pretty good - Able to catch water taxi to other part of the island This resort is still expanding with different features. The hospitality, location and environment were the big plus for me to look forward going back for some chill time. If you want the luxury of space and serenity, boutique size, this is a good choice.

We spent a week at the Alunan Resort and had the most amazing experience. Each and every staff member was incredibly welcoming and hospitable. They took care of all our needs so we could simply enjoy ourselves. 10 out of 5 stars! The hotel is built into the Perhentian jungle, so youโ€™ll see green everywhere you look. Itโ€™s also right on a beach and if you wade a few meters into the water youโ€˜ll find beautiful corals and lots of fish, so you have an ideal place for snorkeling right at your doorstep. The room was beautiful, spacious and impeccably clean. All rooms have two floors and provide a stunning view of the ocean and the closest islands, oftentimes also the mainland. The food in the two hotel-owned restaurants is super delicious and again the staff - including the chefs - are amazing people and try to make your stay as memorable as possible. We added the Alunan Unlimited option to our booking, which is highly recommended. There is only one small restaurant in the near vicinity. Apart from that restaurant youโ€™d have to catch a boat to a nearby village or Long Beach if you wanted to grab something to eat. We never regretted the unlimited option because, as already mentioned, the food was very tasty and in addition to all-inclusive food and drinks in both restaurants you also get a lot of other bonuses like some free excursions and discounts on the other excursions and spa treatments. Last but not least, they try to do everything as eco-friendly as possible in the resort, which I find a great bonus. They even have their own coral restoration project, which you can become a part of with a small contribution. So, all in all, donโ€˜t hesitate to book your suite here, you will not regret it!

Just had an amazing holiday with a few friends at the Alunan Resort on Perhentian Island. Set amongst the natural vegetation , the resort blends into its surroundings . Located in a more secluded section of the island with its own small beach , Alunan is not for the party animal. Come here to enjoy the sun, sand and sea and its wonderful bounty. The rooms were nicely appointed , we were sharing a quad room near the top end of the resort .... hence .. a lot of steps to negotiate. The property was well maintained. My friends had a problem with their air conditioning and despite the late hour , the staff helped to change rooms. Food was provided by its only restaurant Bayu . Breakfast , although menu was limited was generous and nicely done . We had our dinners there and it was delicious . Prices were city prices . I really loved the rojak buah... outstanding sauce. There were various activities available .. We took a couple of the snorkeling trips ... accompanied by their resident marine biologists . And they were definitely the highlight of the trip. We were well taken cared of... and all of us had an amazing time and experience with the various ocean life on display. We also took the sunset sailing on the catamaran. Lovely time on board although the weather prevented a good sunset view .... that's life . BUT without a doubt, the one thing that truly set Alunan apart was the staff . Without exception , from gardener to reception to restaurant to the marine biologists , they were all friendly , courteous and delightful people. Genuinely....service with a smile. To them I owe my thanks for providing me and my friends an amazing holiday.

It's perfect for a quiet staycation and for a private beach. Not crowded at all. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Being a Perhentian island fan, I have always visit there by myself for free and easy trip. This is a first time we decided to stay here. It's a comfortable journey from the jetty and arrival at the resort as I compared. All the way was guided and prepared for us even a taxi arrangement to the airport. Just I think that the breakfast provided has room for improvement. Overall is good and beyond my expectation, worth it! My friend and I had a very pleasant stay over the weekend. Definitely go back again for another staycation. Looking forward!

What a gem: wonderful small resort that puts a lot of effort into being as environmentally friendly as possible and coral conservation. Staff are very friendly and warm. Food is delicious. The activities offered (snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, coral conservation, batik painting) are.highly recommended. We'll be back.

For you who loves small community and quiet place, Alunan is excellent. Food is excellent, best I have had in this kinda beach resorts. Everything on the menu are so yummy. Beach is nothing to shout about, in fact a little short for those who likes walking along the beach. Resort sits in the hill, be ready for lots of climbing and steps ... worse if your room number is late teens onwards.

The great stay, as the staffs are friendly. Very good ambiance and scenery. The snorkeling spot was just at the beach where you will be able to see different types of small fish and baby shark. The snorkeling trip with the resort is great too, as we will be able to view shark and sea turtle. But you have to be able to walk over a narrow path way from the reception/ beach to your room.

My first stay at Alunan, a boutique resort that believes in providing an impeccable experience and quality. Service is top notch, both service and excursion staff go the extra mile to make your holiday wonderful. Entertainment- they brought in a popular group with an electrifying guitarist for a truly memorable evening. And I saved the best part (yes there is still an even better part!) - the food! Gosh here you have the absolute best mix of local goodies and Italian spread. Like - would you have expected to taste excellent Assam Fish, Rojak and Italian dishes and the best Tiramisu here at Perhentian? I didnโ€™t and so I was blown away! I hear they have excellent local and Italian chefs in house, thatโ€™s why. Words canโ€™t describe how much Iโ€™ve enjoyed my stay here. Kudos to the management and staff here. Yes they are not the cheapest resort, but once you get here you appreciate clearly why ๐Ÿ˜‰

Eventhough the food is a bit overpriced but I am super happy with my booked. The food was yummy and I still can't get over of how good the food was. The beach is amazing. My family experienced a very pleasant and private stay in the family villa. Moreover, staffs were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!

We had a very good time at Alunan. The team is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our accommodation had great views and a little welcome present was waiting for us. I also enjoyed the spa and offered excursions. The environmental effort in this resort is also quite present and i appreciate that. But the one big issue for me is the price. I donโ€™t really see where the premium in price materializes in the product. The breakfast was actually really bad. Especially the continental option was cold, flavorless and soggy with oil. There are lovely resortโ€™s kn the island for half the price. Surely Alunan offers its own unique experience, but there is much room for improvement and for this price not worth it to me.

Awesome resort, very attentive team. First was Raili who was very responsive via whatsapp with all the questions and bookings. When we arrive the team was very friendly too, the resort manager also came and assist us in every way they can. All the staffs are very attentive and accommodating. Room was very clean, very new, nicely lacquer wood finishing in the room. The location is quite private and we enjoyed the hospitality by the resort. Cheers!

Two months ago, we stayed here for 2 nights on our round-trip around the island. We were warmly welcomed and found a room with a view of the sea. The kitchen staff is really kind and served excellent food for dinner and breakfast. On the second day, we did a village trekking and truly enjoyed walking the three of us through the village. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relief to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment. The natural bath at the end was a great way to end the trekking. We really feel at home and will come back again.

My friends and I just had the most enjoyable vacation at Alunan. Everything was great from the room, food, excursion, service, spa and even the entertainment was top notch. The staff really go out of their way to ensure everyone enjoys their stay but still being available for errands or if need help. Their resident chef whips up the most amazing food. Their local kitchen is equally awesome. A repeat visit is a must also everyone must love it

We had a great time in this resort. The staff are friendly. You can even do water activities such as kayaking, snorkelling and sailing. But one thing can forget is the food. It's delicious. You wake up and all you gotta do is eat. I truly recommend this place especially if you're planning for a short getaway during the holiday.

Our experience at Alunan was great. The kindness and care we received from every staff member was our beyond our expectations, everyone was very welcoming and ready to satisfy our needs. We particularly appreciated the importance given to sustainability: the staff provided us with water bottles and water refillers could be find all over the resort; also, the resort has an ongoing coral project in order to save and protect corals. Right below the resort thereโ€™s a beautiful snorkeling point where you can see the coral reef and even baby sharks. The only thing we would have appreciated was to have a night light and a socket also in the room upstairs (we stayed in a room for 4). Overall, we really suggest to stay at Alunan for your Perhentian island holiday.

I had an incredible experience with Ari! Her massage skills are top-notch - I felt so relaxed and rejuvenated after the session. Not only is she skilled, but she's also incredibly courteous and always had a smile on her face. The positive energy she brings to the table enhances the overall experience. I highly recommend Ari for a fantastic massage experience. -- Rohit

We had a beautiful stay on Alunan. The staff are super friendly, the room was lovely and the privacy you get on the island is lovely. The staff always sorted out a water taxi for us when we wanted to visit the other islands, so it was easy to get around. Service was pretty great and overall the experience was just incredibly relaxing.

The resort is located on a hillside, which has some paramount views especially the sunset! The staffs were really friendly. This management deserves the praise for maintaining & preserving the green value around the location. Apparently, the rooms needed some improvements & upgrades. Apart from that, it was really a great place to visit with family & friends.

My 3rd day in Perhentian was here at Alunan Resort, I could say this is the best stay my whole life. Their service was superbbbbbb! They have their own coral project, you can adopt corals. Games like ping pong and board games also provided. Also saw sharks, stingrays, crabs and some other fishes I didn't know their names, here.

Conservation and restoration efforts especially the corals here are good. Baby sharks, and a variety of fishes can be spotted swimming around right in front of Alunan. Service is really good. Rooms are nicely furnished. Your luggages / bags will be handled for you right from Kuala Besut Jetty. The only downside, would be the food. Breakfast options are fine (1 local and 1 continental), though some options do get served cold.. which is bad in my books. Do not expect a 5 star experience on the culinary side of things here, everything else though is 5 star. TLDR 5 star beach resort, underwhelming food.

Very quite place.....beautiful beaches & peaceful place for someone who need to get free n relax their mind but for the food there's not many choice to choose from the alacarte. Even for the breakfast there' s too limited of food to eat n it seems not fair to the guest that paid quite high rate for the accomodation and off course u deserve to had plenty & variety of food but it spoil...

This is my second visit to Alunan and itโ€™s amazing! The villa is nice, service is great and you can jump down to see all the beautiful fishes and corals โค๏ธ Thanks to Sany for the great hospitality and Mahfuz for going above and beyond! This resort have very good and dedicated staff that will make your stay an awesome one!

What a great experience, everything was near perfect. I didn't give the full 5 stars just because I think there is room to improve for the food. Also those having knee problem should stay away as the stairs will be a bit difficult

We had a good time chilling here for one night. Price is quite steep. Our room is near the top so we got a super view. Not advised for the unfit, disabled and elderly though. Need to navigate small walkways that goes up and up and quite confusing as well. Upon arrival at the jetty, there is already staff waiting for us and they took our baggages to the room. Check in was smooth with a great view from the lobby. They provided you with refillable water bottle and a number of water stations in the establishments - effort towards less plastics use ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ. The room - did I mention super view? And you can chill in the bed gazing at the view - clean and well maintained - upper deck has small airconditioned nook with same super view and open air floor with artificial grass floor. Gets really hot in the afternoon but makes for amazing place to chill and look at the nightsky - we noticed some room has hammock but ours has none The service - all the staffs are friendly and welcoming. Quite a rarity in this part of Malaysia. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ - the downside. We booked the snorkeling excursions but they forgot about it. They tried to arrange it on the same day but as the arrangement fell through, they were quite late in informing us - plenty of activity aside from snorkeling. They have transparent kayak but I would advise against it. The price is higher than the regular kayak but i think the transparent kayak has leak so most of the time your kayak is flooded, which obstructs the view below. - stand up paddling. Really nice experience and i dont think there is any other place in perhentian that offer this The beach and water around - small strip of beach but clean - the water in front of the resort is nice but be careful less you step on the corals remnants whatsnot - further out, there are plenty of sea cucumbers in the water - they have their own coral nursery but we did not visit due to exhaustion and time constraint. I think this and the jetty are the areas where you get to see corals and fishes The food - the breakfast is order from the menu. Fruits selections limited. I had western type breakfast. Filling and nice. - dinner. Standard resort price. We had bbq set. The sauce is yummy. The butter prawn is also ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ All in all, I had a great stay. Just wish the price is not too steep or they throw in few other perks with the price paid.

We (a family of 5) had an amazing time at the resort mainly because of these three things: 1) Great, friendly and well-trained staffs. Special shoutout to Aimi, Haqim, Aidil, Durin, their attentive manager and the restaurant staffs. 2) Superb view from the room. Hammock at the rooftop deck is a big plus! 3) Alunan Coral Project Food - No complaint on the taste and presentation but less choices on the restaurant menu, but understandable as they have just reopened from almost one year COVID lockdown. You have the choice to trek to nearby Kampung Nelayan for cheaper food options. Maybe the only bad experience we ever had is at Kuala Besut Jetty during the first day where we embarked using "unofficial jetty" where no proper stairs available and quite dangerous for oldies. I am not sure why they did not use the proper jetty that are available right next to them! However I believe this is out of their control because the boat company is not theirs. So where should we complain about this? Overall, a very nice stay and would definitely recommend.

A very secluded resort which is separated from the long beach where most of the resorts are located. It's a very good hiding place for one to relax and stay with total privacy. We are given room number 23 which is located at the highest point and the centre of the resort. Our room full height window commands the best view towards the sea, especially when u r looking from the upper deck private balcony. Listening to the sea wave while watching the stars at the quiet night at the balcony is the unreal experience for us. Pity that the private beach is not swimmable at all because there are too many rocks around and hopefully the resort will build a swimming pool in future and definitely will make us wanna go back again!

This is a great place to have relaxing time with your family and friends. A secluded area where you can enjoy walking on the beach without any hassle with so many beach goers and really good place to have a romantic get away.

Alunan is really a nice place to stay in. All the staffs are friendly and trained, they make you feel welcome and comfortable. Besides, the room has the best view. The beach by Alunan is clear, green and turquoise. Food and activities are all recommended. We booked a boat taxi from Alunan to take us to Long Beach for night drinking activities, we were drunk and the driver saved us from getting back to the hotel safely. He was there waiting for us 1 hour earlier, and then he looked for us and take us back to the hotel safely even we were reluctant ๐Ÿ˜‚ His name is MUN from Alunan. I really recommend Alunan โ™ฅ๏ธโ™ฅ๏ธ
