I truly enjoyed my stay at Phyllen Hotel. It's an excellent family-owned business in a nice quiet area of Tanga City. The price was reasonable, the balcony was enjoyable, the hot water was consistent, the AC worked, and the bed was comfortable. Thanks Justin for a memorable experience!

The rooms were very cozy. The double bed, ac, tv and hot showers were amazing. The hotel is in a quiet area of town so sleeping was peaceful 🙏 The breakfast in the morning is included, the staff can make you eggs, omletts, fruit juice also there's coffee and steamed milk. We booked some tours, outings, with Justin, the owners son and he is a really nice, genuine guy, however I think there's room for improvement within his buisness offering tours. For example we booked a snorkeling tour with him for quite alot of shillings. We seen from the pictures on his Instagram the other tourists had a fibreglass boat, we had a traditional one made of logs. Additionally, the snorkelling gear was full of mold and their was a miscommunication on where we were snorkelling - we didn't see much and paid quite alot. The next day we went to the bat caves which was a really enjoyable afternoon, however later in the day we were doing a 'city tour' which actually was not great. We asked Justin where a good local spot to eat was and he brought us to a local restaurant, however I'm not sure what was going on but he was on the phone the entire time and yelling while he was sitting directly next to us.. It would have been better if he excused himself and took the call outside, we were paying him for the 'city tour'. It was a meal we couldn't wait to finish and leave. After that we decided to split off on our own and end our time with him. The hostel was nice and we would definetly stay again, however if your going to book ur tours here as well I think the cost should match the service, and the cost was too high for the service we Recieved. I wish him best of luck in making improvements in his tour buisness and hope there will be further transparency with his guests.

It was very clean, and the nicest staff! We also went to amboni caves, and peponi beach with the manager Justin, who always goes the extra miles for his guests! Also very good breakfast. I would be happy to be back!

What a fab friendly family run hotel. Nothing is too much. The price is amazing per night & it includes breakfast. The restaurant is open for lunch & dinner if you need it. Ideally placed within a short walk of shops and tuk tuks or motorcycle taxis that will take u anywhere for a few pence! Definitely recommend and will definitely return. They have wifi

A wonderful place to stay when visiting Tanga region, good service, friendly staffs. Just few things to improve: 1.bathroom doormats, 2.bedside tables-even 1 would be enough. 3.please fix the bed on room 204,it makes alot of noise. 4.for the matter of kitchen it's best to inform the guests the proper times for breakfast, or to contact your guest to know if they gonna need a breakfast and not to tell them that the breakfast is finished, i missed my breakfast there. But all in all the place is amazing.

Despite its hard to pronounce name this hotel is a gem in Tanga. Its local and family owned and run business I had the pleasure of spending a night there. The rooms are clean with big windows and have air conditioning. The staff are attentive and professional and explain everything you need to know. The manager is very friendly and helpful. I cant comment on the food as I went out to eat instead. I had to also leave at 5:30am and with they served breakfast at 5am as some of us travel early especially because the other reviewers said their breakfast was good. I look forward to my next stay.

Nice little hotel near Tanga city. Clean and nice rooms. Toilet could work better, and A/C was direct in head, so difficult to live without, but turned on you instantly froze ice cold. Lots noise from surrondings, including metal bars sticking out of building could be heard which made it difficult to sleep. Strange blue lighting in hallways also a bit wierd for a hotel.

Services very good. My wife and family were very comfortable in the hotel. Most likely to board in the hotel again when in Tanga. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

The small family-run Hotel is very close to the city center (walking distance from the beach as well). We stayed 5 nights and had a balcony with sea view. The rooms are very modern and clean. Justin is very knowledgeable about the History of Tanga ( and Tanzania) and can give you a great Tour.

The Hotel is a really modern and clean building. For this price really good. It is really near to the center and in a calm area. The atmosphere in the hotel is really familiar. Especially, because of Justin who is really friendly and become like a friend.

Hotel is close to the city centre and easy to reach by taxi, motorbike or public transport. In terms of value for money, this is probably the best hotel in Tanga. Unfortunately, I didn't have wifi in the hotel for the first 24 hours. After asking several times, it worked on the second day. The whole process was quite annoying as I had no other possibilities to use the internet. The breakfast is rather small. The owner was really helpful, the other employed obvious not so.

We spent five nights in the Phyllen Hotel and really enjoyed our stay. It is a very young and modern hotel in a central to the city centre, close to the beach and in a quiet area. The rooms are plain, but pretty and with very nice details. Justin is very friendly and knowledgable about the city and history of Tanga. We can really recommend to stay in the Phyllen Hotel and would stay there again!

Could be better. Bebe ! This place is not a place you want to spend a night if you are in town for just a day. It is reasonable when it comes to price. Their breakfast is not okay; I had to go somewhere else for breakfast.

The best affordable hotel in Tanga. You have to call and book before you arrive, just a precaution. It is always overbooked.
