A little limestone mountain to visit in alor setar, about 20mins only from town central. Surrounded by paddy fields Worth visiting, especially in the evenings to get a spectacular view of the mountain with sunlight reflected on it. Paddy museum, science center and aquatic centre with Olympic size pool are just around it.

Gunung Keriang (Mount Keriang) is a 250 million year old lump of mainly limestone rock which is said to be in the shape of an elephant and reaches a height of 218 meters. It is located about 8 km north-west of Alor Setar close to the Kedah Paddy Museum. It is geologically unique and ten different rocks are found here including attractive calcite crystals which are much sought after by collectors and feng-shui believers. Like most of Malaysia's limestone formations, the hill is riddled with caves including a larger one known as Gua Keriang. On the south eastern edge of the hill is the Gunung Keriang Recreational Park which has walking trails with concrete railings and viewing gazebos. It is possible to hike up to the summit to obtain good views of the surrounding rice plains. There is also a children's playground but the area is suffering from a lack of maintenance and the park's signposts and maps are no longer legible. Entrance to the park is free. Next to the recreational park is a street market selling food, clothing and sundry items but there are also a few stalls selling crystals which presumably have been extracted (looted?) from the caves.

My little adventure. A small mountain surrounded by paddy fields near the beautiful town of Alor Setar, relaxing at the foot of the mountain while enjoying the panorama with an interesting atmosphere.

Behold the wondrous Mount Keriang, a place steeped in ancient magic, where the limestone rock formations of yore whisper tales of bygone times. From its lofty heights, the rolling paddy fields unfurl like a tapestry of gold. For those who seek adventure, the Gunung Keriang Recreational Park awaits, adorned with winding trails and emerald foliage, and offering enchanting vistas from its viewing gazebos. As the stars dance above, one can traverse the paths to the summit, gazing upon the fertile rice plains below. While the park is a haven of wonder, the passage of time has dimmed some of its charms. The children's playground, once a place of mirth, now suffers from a lack of care. Though the signposts and maps may no longer be legible, the magic of the park remains undimmed. And, as if by fate, a street market has sprung up next to the park, where one can find wondrous delights in the form of food, clothing, and sundry items. However, it should be noted that the crystals on offer, while enchanting, may have been extracted from the caves without proper care.

You can take a short hike here but just be aware of the rock during the hike Easy hike for begginer??? Just follow the signal/signboard along the hike to reach the peak of mountain!

This is the access point to keriang hill's peak. The path to the hill is just behind the shops selling crystals. The is no sign board at the parking area to show the path, you should ask the locals if you are not sure about the direction. Once you see the sign "Laluan Ke Puncak", it roughly take about 30 minutes to reach the peak.
