Hidden away down a short alleyway on Tennyson Street is a lovely little bar Monica Loves. A great spot to stop for a cocktail, beer, wine or whatever you prefer. The selection is great, the ambience is enticing and everything is served with a smile. Good food options to have with that drink at the end of the day. Highly recommended.

Came here for an after work drink for the first time tonight. Good DJ setting the mood , great vibes and a good happy hour ! Nice place to catch up with friends :) we’ll be back !

Nice and cozy atmosphere. Skilled bartenders. Huge variety of drinks. It's a bar so expect bar snacks/food. Reasonable prices. Definitely worth checking out, and coming back again.

There is a very good reason for this bar to be so highly rated. Gorgeous place with great vibes. All front of house staff are courteous and professional, everyone looks very classy. You feel like you are in a loft in New York or London when you are in here. I had a gin fizz which was great, but the chicken burger for only $15 highly exceeded my expectations. You will struggle to find a $30 burger better than this one. The bar itself is also gorgeous, and the mirrors around the place really complete the look. If I lived in Napier I would definitely be a regular here. Go here!!

Great staff, cool venue and superb choice of drinks. The menu looked interesting too, but we'd already eaten so popped in for a couple of drinks. Great atmosphere on a Saturday night and lovely to see it busy. On the list for a revisit next time we're in town.

Such a shame that the service is slow and without a smile. Great location but let down by the slack hospitality by the workers, apart from ponytail guy. Good cocktails but they take forever. And they call last rounds when there are at least 40 people still drinking 🤷‍♀️

Nice back street bar. Cocktail was delicious. Staff could be more engaging and friendly, but to be fair we arrived 30 minutes after opening and were the only customers.

Cocktail pretty good. Nice twist on espresso martini with smoked banana rum. Food pretty average. Bland. Squid tough but almost under cooked. Maybe oil not hot enough. Both the jalapeno salsa and the squid quite bland. Need more seasoning.

Almost comically rude service, wrong order dumped on our table, when this was pointed out we were told 'not my problem'. This was eventually corrected. The wait for cocktails was 20 minutes, served with a scowl. Avoid.

Unfriendly staff and uncomfortable vibes. We left before even finishing our drinks as the atmosphere was a bit icky. A shame as the food looked good.

Firstly I have to commend the amazing staff at monica’s for their amazing service on what i’m sure is one of their busiest nights of the year (NYE) even when things were beyond chaotic the staff remained friendly, organized, and kept things moving smoothly. Secondly the quality of food and cocktails is unmatched by any bar or speakeasy I’ve had the pleasure to visit, not a single drink or dish was anything less than fantastic. If I ever have the chance to visit Napier again it won’t be complete without a visit to Monica Loves. Thank you to the staff for making this New Years one of the best i’ve ever had!

Been here twice and both times have been terrible. All the men in this place seem to be on a power trip. They should focus more on customer service rather than worrying about their tight shirts! Couldn't fault the young girl on the bar but won't be going back after 2 bad experiences!

A proper laneways experience, except it is a dead end. A chic little bar tucked away from the bustle. The campanologists practicing at the church added something to the experience. It’s cooler than the photo. Enjoy.

Nice little bar at back of the alleyway. Big wooden glass framed doors, open up wide during the day. Our own local music artist, Lucid Heist, even mans the bar. Well worth the stop and and the hospitality is fantastic from the staff. Plenty of room outdoors for 🚬

This was the most shocking hospitality I have ever received. Just wait until my friend makes her post about her drink! Imagine your drink was delivered to the wrong table. The staff took five minutes to realize the mistake. Instead of making a new drink, they grabbed the drink off the incorrect table and delivered it to my friend without a word. She had to ask the other table if they took a drink of it. AND. This was after waiting forty-five minutes for average tasting cocktails. When ordering my drink, I asked the staff if my choice was a tart choice rather than sweet. She assured me I'd love it if I was in to tart flavors. After taking my first sip, I got pure bubble gum flavors. I couldn't drink it. I nicely told the staff member that she shouldn't recommend it as a tart drink as it was much more sweet than anything. Rather than a polite response as you should always give in hospo, she retorted "was it not tart enough for you?" and shrugged me off. Sure, funny response, but not the place. Overall, not a happy experience and I currently would not recommend their drinks nor service.

It was a lovely atmosphere however the food was very over priced, jarred olives costing 9 bucks no olive oil lol and dry edamame. I don’t mind but when it’s all fancy and pricey I do mind.
