Stopped off for a pint and some food on Sunday night after spending the day at Oulton park and was told they stopped serving food so settled for a quick pint . The pub is very well presented , clean and welcoming . Also a pub quiz on later for a little bit of entertainment. Would like to recommend that they maybe offer cobs or snacks if customers are interested . Carl

Lovely pub to have stumbled across, music a little too loud in certain positions- could be more balance in the output, bar staff although attentive when they notice you waiting were too busy tidying, although not a bad problem to have, was just a little annoying.

I had never heard of this place up until about 3 days ago when a family member states we were going for a meal there. Like most people, I had a look at the menu before hand and was pleasantly surprised at the choices and couldn't make my mind up what I wanted. It wasn't your chain style menu and you can tell thought had gone into it. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff who ensured we were all comfortable sat outside ( under a large tent style canopy with outdoor heaters all around) and had our drinks order in a rapid time. A spanner was thrown into the works when I noticed they had an additional menu for the "Smokermotive" which I found amazing. They offered a variety of smoked meat platters and at a very reasonable price. I chose the Loco Box with an assortment of meet, fries, cheese sauce and mayonnaise, and I'll tell you what... It was amazing! I don't know if it was because I was hungry or I just enjoyed it so much but it didn't touch the sides and I wolfed it all down. Highly recommended if it's available. Inside the pub was busy but still kept clean and orderly with the odd times were are currently in. Toilets were clean however only one cubicle in the men's and that's probably the only negative I can give this place. It is dog friendly as well so I will definitely be returning with my Dog and stuffing my face more. Really impressed with this gem and worth the trip from the surrounding areas as well.

We have been here for the past 4 years. They have recently changed their menu. WOW It’s absolutely awful !!!! The chips are like something you get from a kids play. The sauce is the cheapest you can find! What a shame we loved this place but being back the old menu awful food and presentation ! You were a great local pub , it’s the first time in 2 years we had to send food back Being back the old menu and chefs , this food is awful we even heard a couple next to us complaining about theirs . What a shame

Lovely looking little pub. Food let it down majorly. Lacked a decent variety of vegetarian options, so I ended up ordering the mushroom loaded fries. Which was awful.

Sat outside, quite a nice day, dog friendly but outside dog bowls were quite dirty, we took our own so not a problem and bits of broken glass under the tables, need to be more spot on if wanting 4 legged friends to be safe

Having not visiting the rising sun in quite a few years, I was stunned by the renovations that have taken place.. It's not the same cozy old local, that I remembered. But it's now very smart and modern, clean and welcoming.. The food was tasty and well presented. Staff were attentive, and made sure we had all we needed.

We booked for tea on fish and chip Wednesday. Two adults and our granddaughter. The bar area was a little busy when we walked in, but the young guy behind the bar went out of his way to make us feel very welcome. Service was great, attention to detail and the food arrived quickly. Excellent crispy fish and chips and just the right portions for us. Our granddaughter had the fudge cake for pudding, which she loved. Can't beat Robinson's beer, relaxed atmosphere when we were there at 5:30. Thanks again, we'll be back. Definitely recommend.

Great meal for 5 of us last Sunday. The pub was busy, with a big Coronation street party taking place on the main street, but we had a good meal each, with good service and pleasant staff. No complaints at all.

Called in on the off chance on way home. Excellent, value for money, beef roast, generous portion of perfectly cooked tender meat and lots of veg. Finished with very good homemade crumble and custard. Friendly, efficient staff in this comfortable locals' pub. Will return. Thanks from the Allens.

We have been coming the past few weeks for the quiz on a Sunday night however the past 2 weeks have been a let down as there have been 2 other teams that are constantly loud and abrupt whilst the questions are being asked which means you can’t hear them, it also never starts on time, when asked before hand they said it starts at 8pm but then when we got there the first time they said 8:30pm but it actually starts at around 8:45 but some Sundays it has been later not good for people who work early on Mondays, even starting at 8 would be better for most. Also the service isn’t great, they turn off the coffee machine before the quiz starts even though the quiz lasts well over 2 hours, could understand if they switched it off an hour before the quiz finishes or something. Not tried the food but would do if they served it later that 6pm on a Sunday. Only good things I can say the guy who does the quiz is friendly and gets through the questions quite quickly.

We went for a walk in Tarporley but booked a table the night before. We rang from our walk as it took longer than expected. They were so accommodating and took our order in advance, so they could have it ready for when we arrived. Welcoming, friendly staff and a gorgeous Sunday roast. My chicken was beautiful and my brother said the beef was lovely.

Our experience at The Rising Sun was great ! We really enjoyed the pulled pork nachos and the burger. Initially, we chose to sit outside, however before long, a sudden downpour surprised us. Although we were protected by the shelter, the attentive staff consistently checked on us, expressing concern that our toes might soon get wet! They kindly suggested that we consider relocating. We didn't mind the rain too much; in fact, we found it quite soothing to listen to. However, as the water began seeping onto the floor, we realized it was time to make a move. Without us even having to request it, the staff promptly came to our aid and went above and beyond to accommodate us, despite the bustling atmosphere inside. Their kindness was truly heartwarming as they swiftly found us a table, ensuring our comfort and well-being. Their quick action and genuine care made us feel valued and taken care of throughout the entire experience. We left the restaurant with a warm sense of gratitude and a memorable dining experience.

We called in for the first time this afternoon and were made very welcome by the young man behind the bar. My wife has mobility issues and it's good to find such a friendly and welcoming pub. Great menu with all the usuals plus some different options. Nice to have such a good choice and good beer. We really enjoyed our meals and will certainly return. Thanks

Changed slot since my last visit, the menu doesn't seem as good as my last visit which is a shame. The food we had was good, service was quick enough considering how busy it was. I didn't like the location of our table next to the main entrance, not complaining as our booking was last min. Just advice for other patreons. The rest of the eating area looks good. No doubt return at some point in the future.

The fish was perfect, unfortunately the chips where overcooked the service was good.

Food seems to have gone downhill over the last few weeks. The Beef brisket ends were very hard and chewy and the chips weren't as good as usual. Mac and cheese was amazing though as was the chicken.

Lovely pub with very helpful staff. Our Sunday lunch unfortunately wasn't quite up to standard as the beef was mainly fat. We were compensated with a free dessert but would rather have just had what we paid for. It spoilt the experience.

While visiting friends in Chester we usually visit Tarporley. This was our first time in the Rising Sun. Will be back. Very good.

Top class pub with beautiful interior. We had probably our nicest Sunday lunch of the year here. The staff are friendly and efficient.
