👍👍 One of my favourite kopitiams in Penang. The kopitiam opposite Komtar on Penang Road has been around since 1906. The poh piah, assam laksa and char koay teow are all very tasty. Ice cream jelly is perfect to finish off the meal. People often mention chicken, rice, durian, cream, kacang, teow, char, kueh, Penang, laksa,

Nostalgic coffee shop with their signature ais kacang with the jelly & ice creams since my childhood days. Hainanese chicken rice was delicious. I liked it with the black soya sauce & their special chilli dip for the roasted chicken. Popiah was yum, and it just complemented the chicken rice. Visiting the first time in over 30 years. Will be back again.

This is one of the oldest kopitiams in Penang - founded in 1906 and their Ais Kacang w/ Home-made Durian Ice Cream is one of the most legit on the island. Recently a Thai-style Hainanese Chicken Rice (since 1960) has moved their from their original location down the road. The original uncle who did the chicken rice sold his business to someone new, but they have faithfully retained his recipe - down to the chili and soy sauce used 👌🏼 This is truly a heritage institution and often overlooked by younger Penangites but I feel it’s a must visit for Penangites and visitors alike 👍🏼

Awesome ice kacang with durian ice cream. Long history kopitiam. Good hawker food also. Nostalgic style seats like those you see in old HK char chan teng era.

Nostalgic ais kacang with durian ice cream. Their chicken rice is also delicious, and the only place I know so far which serves black sauce chicken. Laksa, pai tee and popiah are old-school style. Laksa has the strong fish flavour, and pai tee texture is softer than normal, so it blends well with the filling.

A must visit iconic coffee shop in Penang with their old school seas which reminds you of the old train station. Don't forget their popular durian ice cream. Walk to the back and see an old old house on stilts!

A tired old kopitiam in the city centre popular for fried roast chicken rice. The Char koay teow(RM6.50) was decent with 2 large shrimps but the cockles were stale and overcooked. Lohan kuo drink(RM1.90) was diluted.

Known for their home made durian ice cream, it is a must try when you come here. The durian ice cream only cost RM2 per scoop. It's authentic, fragrant durian taste and it's not too sweet. I like their char kuay teow too. Big fresh prawns, with kerang and chinese sausage slides. Portion is small, I can eat two plates to myself. The assam laksa is not spicy and sour enough for me, not my fav. Car park is a rare find. I'd strongly recommend to Grab car here.

You don’t come here for the decor, you come here for the Laksa! A small and wonderful soup with pineapple, shrimp paste, fresh greens including cucumber and mint, plus bunga kantan (a herbaceous pink flower). Amazing flavor!

Kek Seng is one of the oldest kopi tiam in Penamg, established way back in the early 1900s. Over the years, the shop had seen the change of time, but Kek Seng remained at where it is today. It also had some nice food and old kopi tiam setting.

Price not reasonable. Take away 1 pack of chicken rice (Roasted Chicken thigh part mix white Chicken thigh part, add small rice) they charge me RM 10.50. Normally i take away in other place only RM6. Even in New Lane i take away roasted chicken mix roasted duck add small rice also only RM 9.50. Fine,i just think maybe because of thigh is expensive so i don't mind the price. When i arrived my office i open and see all chicken they give me is breast part some more white chicken more than roasted chicken, roasted chicken about 2-3pcs only. Hello, i understand now economy not good, everyone want to earn more, but please earn it in honest way. That's more gold price chicken rice in my life.

If you're looking for condiments such as atap chee (palm seeds), leong fun (grass jelly), tor tao (peanuts), lao hao (nutmeg), Gula Melaka, or sarsi-flavoured ice, or smooth snow ice, I'm sorry, but you won't find them in this bowl. But this is how I remembered a bowl of Kek Seng-style ice kacang, with its two scoops of homemade durian ice-cream and signature three-layer fruit jelly. Each bowl is now priced at RM6.20.

Satisfying meal with yummy chicken rice and kueh paitee! Duck egg char kway teow is ok only. The durian ice kacang is a nice dessert that you should try too, though the durian ice cream tastes a bit artificial 😋

IMO one of the best hainan chicken rice in town. The ice kacang with ice cream are not bad either.

Char Koay Teow (RM6.50): tasty and clean. Not much of that char taste but it is fragrant. Chicken rice: One of the most fragrant rice I've had in Penang. Unfortunately, I didn't like the soy sauce that came with the chicken because it tasted bitter like coffee.

Legit fried kueh teow with 2 large prawns for only RM6.50. Prawns were fresh and there's also 'lap cheong' inside the fried kueh teow. This is 10x better than the one in Gurney drive hawker which was bland, small portion and long queue. Come here for reasonable priced and original fried kueh teow!

One of my favorite Hainan Thai chicken rice from childhood. Despite changed owner the food is still decent.

Signature durian ice cream. It's available for ice kacang and mix fruit bowl also. Laksa will be good to try. It's old style Penang style "coffee shop" that may not accept by certain group.

Very very old school ais kacang. The pudding that put on top and the durian ice cream remind me of the old Indian uncle riding a bike while ring his bell when come to our taman(housing area) . Maybe those more than 60years old will like it. It is an old taste

Ever since I started working in the KOMTAR area back in 2018, my mom has consistently raved about this hidden gem. Today, with the company of friends, I finally had the pleasure of trying it out. Asam Laksa: 7.5/10 The Asam Laksa lived up to its reputation with a burst of flavors. While the broth was tangy and rich, I'd rate it a 7.5 out of 10 for its distinctive taste. Char Koay Teow (CKT): 7/10 The CKT had a decent flavor profile, but the wok hei could use a bit more finesse. I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10. Still enjoyable, but there's room for improvement. Durian Ice-cream Ice Kacang: 9/10 Now, this was a delightful surprise! The Durian Ice-cream Ice Kacang stole the show with a remarkable 9 out of 10. The durian ice-cream was incredibly flavorful, and what impressed me more was the jelly layers, each boasting a different flavor. A perfect symphony of sweetness and durian goodness. Overall, Mom's recommendation didn't disappoint. I'll undoubtedly be returning to savor Siam Chicken Rice.

Famous for their Ice kacang. However the pork noodle and popiah are another nice tasty food too. The Thai Hainanese chicken rice can be pricey if mixed charsiew and roasted chicken

First time check in this old style restaurant (Kopitiam) near komtar. The restaurant is famous with their ais kacang and durian ice cream. Not much choices of food, just have chicken rice, fried kuey teow (char kueh teow), poh piah, kueh teow soup (kueh teow teng), laksa only. We ordered chicken rice, char kueh teow and ice kacang. Personally I like the chicken rice, the dark sauce and special chilli you can't find in other restaurant. Char kueh teow and ice kacang is so so only. If you are in penang, can try out this restaurant, the only concerns is the parking, can park at the back lane street. Oh ya, the price here bit pricey compare to other hawker stall. Food : 4 stars Environment : 2 stars Value for money : 3 stars Worth to try : 4 stars
