We'd been here before, before Covid, and it was a very interesting pirate museum. Now, no, it's no longer interesting. There is little to read about or discover. Not impressed this time at all with the exhibition. The castle is worth a visit. It is free. The views are spectacular in all directions. Very few parking spaces at the top, but then again it is a castle on top of a volcano.

Very nice place. If you want to visit the castle, you will pay 3 €. Is it normal? I'm not sure. Of course, you can walk around the castle and take a lot of wonderful pictures.

Although is mostly empty (that’s why it’s free) there was a lady who told us more about the castle, its history and about Lanzarote. If you read it - thank you :) Beautiful view from the top. Worth a quick visit in you are in the area. Hopefully there will be more exhibition in the future because it’s really interesting place with a history and potential to create interesting spot. Limited parking but we didn’t have trouble to find a space.

I can only give this amount of stars as the lady closed up on entry before 1pm. But the outside views were amazing

20-25 mins walk up a brand new tarmac’d path. The castle (not open) is the least interesting thing up there. Go up there for the views.

Caution: the barrier has been closed before 4pm! We had to contact the police and waited for more than one hour, before someone opened - 4 or 5 cars couldn't get out. There is no sign or information about that. Very disappointing. The staff at the castle / museum didn't tell us either and what's more - they closed before the dedicated time, knowing that several cars had still been up there. However - the view is quite nice. The museum is open but under construction.

This was a nice wee stop with our little girl who loves castles. This one got extra points as it had a draw bridge. The pirate exhibition inside is small but the building is impressive and the views from the top are great. Typical of Lanzarote, the wind at the top is howling at times so hold on to your hats 😂

Santa Barbara Castle was an interesting place to visit perched up high over looking the both the east and west coasts of Lanzarote from Teguise. There is a small road you could use to drive right up to the castle if you might struggle to walk the one kilometre from the town. It is free to get in and is beautifully preserved and displayed in a Pirate theme. There are fantastic views of the mountains to the north and south . It would be a great place to take children. There is also what looks to be a volcanic crater which you can easily walk around the rim of right next to the castle.

Great little castle, well worth a visit just for the views. Information on site is lacking, presentation of the Pirate Exhibition is non existent, best bull up before visiting. No food or drink available. FREE ADMISSION!

With no warnings or signs whatsoever, the castle and the road are closed today. Panorama though is supernice.

The castle and views are worth a look but the pirate museum is a series of images of fictional pirates without any factual information of any sort. Very disappointing.

Stunning location, with spectacular 360 views of the island. A gentle half an hour walk around the volcano rim and crater is a must do, and the path is very easily defined. The drive up there is no where near as hairy as one reviewer suggests and is up a proper road wide enough for two cars, and the distance is less than a mile from the main road. Google listings bizarrely state that the castle is closed on Saturdays. It isn't and is open 7 days a week from 10 until 4 pm. Check out the two Peregrine falcons kiting and diving. Awesome.

Great place to spend 90min, either with family, friends or solo

The castle is OK, the museum could be much better- but the location is AWESOME. I mean... a castle on the volcano rim, what is not to love? You can easily drive up and park next to the castle. A nice walk on the ridge (15-20min?), you can also walk down into the crater. We spent about 3 hours there- and that included a picnic in the crater. My, my wife and my 6 year old daughter loved it!

Loved this castle and the pirate museum. A really nice surprise. 4 year old loved it too.

Great little castle for kids to visit. We got there at 3:30 in the afternoon, not knowing that it closes at 4. However it is not a big place, so had enough time to look around, but could have stayed longer.

Amazing views from the castle, good if you like your history of the local area.

The castle Santa Bárbara lies on top on the volcano Montaña Guanapay about one km outside Teguise. It is magical to walk on the castle. As if you are taken back to the middle age where it was built. You have a breathtaking view from the castle. I can highly recommend a walk around the top of the volcano where you will also be surprised by the small flowers growing along the edge.

The castle is great, and there is a lot of mild hiking/cycling available around it. Offers amazing views of the surrounding landscapes, and the castle is well-kept and a fun, inexpensive chance to explore one of the oldest inhabited parts of Lanzarote! For a reference, both my 7 year old son and I (mid-30s) loved exploring the castle and the valley below :)
