I only visit Margate twice a year for days out. I have gone into the Mechanical Elephant on each visit to order breakfast. When I visited last year, the food was virtually cold & I had to return it. I thought that a year on, it could not be that bad again. I visited about 8:30am & there were only two other people in the establishment. Seeing this, I thought that it could not be the same again as it had only been open a very short time & the lack of people. We ordered two breakfasts & waited quite a while for the food to arrive which made me think that they would bring hot food this time. When the food arrived, I could not believe that it would be worse than the last time. The food was completely cold (I really mean cold). It is so sad that an establishment could offer food that is completely unacceptable. I would definitely not recommend the Mechanical Elephant whatsoever.

Good for beer and location. However the breakfast was cold only the hash brown and sausage had any heat. Will go to local cafe next time and pay a bit more for a warm breakfast.:(Decided to give it another try and went back the next day and had a muffin deal and everything was great so added a star back in👍

The place was dirty, me and my friends had to clean our table as well as other customers!! A customer asked for someone to spray to clean her table and they gave her the spray and she done it herself we was spoken to in an unpleasant manner and was given awful looks!! Do not recommend here our waitress was Beth and she was rude!

Tables were dirty. Coffee machine was like warm and when I got my breakfast the bean and bacon were stone cold. It was like it had been served up an hour before I got there. Won't be going back.

We wanted somewhere to eat where we were familiar with the menu so you can't go wrong with a weatherspoons! It was very spacious which was surprising as it didn't look that big from outside. It was clean and tidy, with a member if staff rapidly cleaning tables as there emptied. We ordered using the app and the table service was quick. The staff were friendly and efficient.

Absolutely awful I asked the waitress if she could kindly wipe our table as we have two children and she said what do I look like your slave? And gave me the spray bottle she said do it yourself so I made a joke and said I can have a discount then for doing my own service and cleaning she then sighed at me and said in your dreams if you don’t like it get out and go else where in to regards of the food the chips were very cold and the steak was really tough and chewy it was actually hurting my jaw like not impressed to be honest the place was filthy and hardly no tables was cleaned what a joke of a place

Thursday 14th December 2023 this pub was visited This weatherspoons is well run and tables kept clean pleasant and helpfully in doing things we're the staff today the client's drinking in the pub were mainly locals The pub would definitely have got 5 stars today if there were more guest handpumped ales on offer today

Unbelievably upsetting visit to this pub. After a fun evening I went to the bar only to be told I have to leave by a manager. I asked why and she said I touched someone inappropriately. I was shocked and asked to see the CCTV of this only to be told it’s confidential. I do believe the manager spoke to me in a loud voice in order to create an embarrassing situation for me. I most definitely will be lodging a formal complaint as this was a very awkward situation for me. Lucky I have a video of said manager and her unfounded accusations.

Stopped by on a cold January afternoon for a bit of a warm-up and a light bite for lunch. A great atmosphere, nicely laid out and friendly and courteous staff team made us very welcome. We will definitely be using The Mechanical Elephant again on future visits to Margate.

Served quickly for drinks, in an extremely busy 2 floor Weatherspoons. Prices are what you expect for these establishments. If you want to eat, then you'll be either waiting ages for a table, or need to go elsewhere. We waited for nearly an hour, and didn't get a table and therefore moved on. That said, it was the hottest day of the year (at the time), with concert and beach going customers, so it isn't surprising they were overstretched.

I enjoy a Wetherspoons because you know exactly what your getting. 3 pints of carling for under £8. Absolutely brilliant value for money. Lots of seating and the toilets are fairly close, for a Wetherspoons. Lots of staff, so you get served very fast. Can't fault the place, will be back and would recommend for a visit.

What can you say? Wetherpoons, cheap and cheerful as ever. Sadly, post-covid the meals have shrunk...wouldn't hurt to add more chips to stop my steak looking lost! Good staff and the usual cheap drinks and the 'bottomless' coffees/teas always a winner!

I am very impressed with the staff and management at the mechanical elephant. I recently spent a week in Margate and visited the pub daily. Even when the pub was rammed due to the UB40 concert, the staff held their own and succeeded in serving everyone in a reasonable time. I'll be visiting next week again. Best wishes

Spoons for breakfast ⭐⭐⭐⭐. You know what you are getting, and it's not the Bus Cafe for sure. The coffee is better than most places with a jug, and the app is really good for ordering food to the table. The food is just Spoons, basic stuff done to an acceptable standard served up in a timely manner. The optional black pudding was nice, the bacon was so so, the sausages were good but skinny. We didn't visit in the evening, not with the kids.

Drinks & views are good Foods is appalling slow to come & then cold, burnt & incomplete. Eat somewhere else.

Very nice pub. Upstairs area so you can sit and look at the sea. Have a look at the carpet and you'll see little elephants!

The food was delicious as always, great portion sizes and good value for money. It was a rather busy day, so we cleared a table to sit down but then moved as soon as we got the chance as the table behind us was being EXTREMELY loud. Once they left, it was an enjoyable atmosphere.

Wife and I had ham, egg and chips which was good, eggs were done perfectly with lovely runny yolk. The we're ok but being reasonably thick chips they weren't fully cooked through. Must say a big thank you to the staff member who allowed me a small drop of regular Pepsi for free as I was having a hypo.

Place rather tidy and clean apart from the toilets which were as expected - revolting. Service a little slow but seem to be very short staffed (not surprised considering the Tories have ruined everything). Had a few snacks from the menu and it was hot so can’t complain. Just your usual Wetherspoons

Been at this JDW while I was in Margate for the weekend. Its just across the beach at an amazing location. They also have outdoor seating of 4-5 tables. Amazing during summer to sit and enjoy the drink. They have two floors of seating and was pretty busy with tourists during lunch time. Ordered 3 plates for £12 and they were really tasty, worth the price. The location is really good and would visit just for this!
