It is almost a must to visit the church and especially, take a look inside. Beautiful historic wallpaintings and a very special atmosphere, perfectly supported by the sacred sounds of greek monks. Stay inside and spent some quiet moments in this historic building - it is a good contrast to the rush of the city ...

A beauty of a wide pedestrian walk in the middle of the city centre! Apart from architecture landscape there is the sound of a musical group to entertain. Thank lovely Athanasia, colorful Evelyn and Kostas with the quitar!

Beautiful and ancient church. Couldn't see the interior as it was closed that time but history is very interesting. It was converted into a mosque and converted back to church.

Hagia Sophia or the Church of Holy Wisdom is one of the religious buildings located in Thessaloniki. This building, which was founded as a church and later converted into a mosque, is one of the oldest buildings in the city and is on the UNESCO list. There has been a church in this place since the third century, but the current building is a magnificent structure built in the 7th century and is a must-see.

It's a beautiful church with a ton of history tied to it. We enjoyed popping in as we walked through Thessaloniki. With its stunning beauty and important religious meaning, this is a necessary stop.

I really liked this church. I suspect it is not visited as frequently by tourists because it is a church from the end of the 8th century while most tourists go to the earlier church architecture from the fifth and earlier centuries. But this one is, in my opinion, the more interesting one because it was built during the time when Byzantium did not allow, for a brief period of time, any figurative decorations in the church. So this church is somewhat different from many of the other churches with a lot of figurative art. In this church, the earliest layer of decorations is mostly patterns and mosaics - almost as if it were a mosque.

Many interesting shops and restaurants all around, also nearby wide markets. It's a public place with pedestrian and car passage. In the center, is the church in it's own space.

This square, and mainly the vertical pedestrian road leading to Tsimiski avenue, Is one of the most beautiful and interesting squares of Thessaloniki, with enough space for children, bicycles, shopping and storefronts and nice coffee stores with outside tables and new fountains, yhe square is also magically decorated during the Christmas period, I'd recommend to enjoy for everyone

Was delighted to visit on a Sunday afternoon to discover there was a baby being baptised. The opportunity to be part of those who witnessed this baptism was very special. The orthodox ritual and chanting was quite stunning.

This isn't the Cathedral-Church location but the little square next to it. It's not quite what I expected. It's missing something- maybe a monument in the middle , but certainly some sound attenuation through use of short walls (perhaps of brick) with greenery to hide the hustle if traffic. If designed well, it will not be an eyesore and be cheap to maintain.

I usually have my coffee, seating on a stone wall listening to the birds singing, while at my back the city centre...goes crazy in traffic, I am Zen relaxed inside the atrium of the church Santa Sofia. Enter there, seat quietly close your eyes and you will feel the calm...

Beautiful square with the ancient church as central point. Big yard in front of it is also very nice. It is always interesting to visit something from the Bysantine times. Recommend!

A meeting point for both youngsters and older ages, it is "dominated" from the church of Agia Sofia (God's wisdom) which is the the third most important church in Thessaloniki (after the city's cathedral and saint Dimitrios) but in my opinion is the most interesting of all three. Apart from the beautiful inside of the church its worth visiting for its "huge" (in terms of Thessaloniki open spaces) yard, especially during the evening and night. Many youngsters hang around and small kids with their parents play :-) In the lower part of the square begins the Agias Sofias pedestrian that leads to the sea, while another interesting pedestrian street (iktinou) is also nearby...

Beautiful place in the middle of the town. You can sit there quietly if you are lucky enough and school kids are not there at the same time. Free entry. 🤗

One monument that reminds me my childhood. I used to play with my friends in the garden. At that time there where no walls from all the sides of the garden.

This is one ancient church in Salonic. It is said to be very much like the Aia Sofia mosque in Istanbul and it would be a replica of it at a smaller scale. It seems to me that it does not look any more like her sister in Istanbul.

Lovely place in the heart of Thessaloniki. The entrance of the church is free of charge and the visit is recommended when you come to this city.
