Situated amidst the old jaffna road which is now abandoned this place hosts a great deal of contemporary Sri Lankan history. On 8th of August 1992 the greatest army commander we have ever seen was killed by terrorist at this place along with several other army officers. Remains of blasted vehicle are still at the place. A monument containing pictures of all who died here was opened last year. You can approach this place via land side only and the road beyond this place is off limits to public. Road leading here is quite good so you can approach here without any hassle. A Must visit place in jaffna.

General Denzil Kobbekaduwa Memorial | ජෙනරාල් ඩෙන්සිල් කොබ්බෑකඩුව ස්මාරකය Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa was a highly decorated and respected General in the Sri Lanka army. He was assassinated along with 9 other military officers in a land-mine explosion in Jaffna peninsula in August 8th of 1992. On August 8th 1994 army erected a memorial on the location where the Tamil Tiger Terrorists (LTTE) blew the land mine which killed the Lieutenant General. With the army moving out of the area this memorial too was destroyed by the LTTE. Exactly 10 years later in 2004 the memorial was again reconstructed by the navy. There is also a replica of how the blasted jeep would have been setup at the road side.

This is a memorial built after Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa's tragic death (a car bomb set by the terrorists). Located in the Nothern Province, this place is easy to access from Araly.

It's the place dedicated to remember the fallen martyrs of the incident claimed Lt. General Kobbekaduwa and other high ranking military officials. Maintained by small group of military personal. The monument is off the tracks so not much traffic encountered. Calm and quite place. Good for birding

This is a memorial built in the memory of the popular army general Denzil Kobbekaduwa. His vehicle got caught to a bomb planted by the terrorists. With him several other army personnel had to sacrifice their lives and only one soldier survived. He too lost his two legs. There were rumors that it was an inside job by the then government because the general was seen as an imminent threat to the president as he was gaining so much popularity among the common people. It is said that the bomb was planted in his vehicle itself. An international investigation had been carried out to find the truth. During that the investigators had blown up two similar vehicles with similar weights, one was blown up by a bomb planted inside and the other by an outside bomb. Those blown up vehicles are now put in here for the observation. From the investigation it was confirmed that the blast was infact by an outside bomb thus relieving the government from the blame. Yet many do believe the investigation was biased.

Don't forget to visit general Kobbakaduwa's memorial site where he was attacked. A small monument was there with pictures of our beloved war heroes as well. Now the place is being maintained by few army officers. Issue is the road heading to the place which is full of small pits and you will swing up and down.
