3.5
stars
for
the
Thredbo
Pub;
or,
if
you're
just
there
for
a
few
beers,
bump
that
up
to
4
stars
plus.
It's
been
consistently
at
that
level
during
the
25
or
so
years
I've
been
visiting.
(Usually
several
times
during
the
walking
season,
never
during
ski
season.)
Let's
get
the
food
out
of
the
way
first.
It
ranges
from
OK
to
barely
OK
(occasionally
*very*
OK,
but
you
pays
your
money
and
you
takes
your
chances).
All
at
mountain
resort
prices.
Still,
it's
the
least
expensive
way
in
Thredbo
to
have
a
meal
out
and/or
stop
your
kids
mewling
for
chippies.
The
venue's
pleasingly
rustic
with
many
outdoor
tables
and
a
view
to
kill
for.
It
couldn't
be
more
conveniently
located.
And
the
prices
for
drinks
are
almost
surely
the
best
in
the
village.
After
a
walk
or
before
dinner,
it's
a
great
place
to
stop
and
soak
up
the
atmosphere.
A
very
welcome
pool
table
and
darts
mean
you
can
have
fun
without
hitting
the
bar.
Staffing
is
inevitably
susceptible
to
resort
/
seasonal
help.
I
find
them
usually
friendly
and
helpful,
but
when
it
starts
getting
ugly-busy
then
.
.
.
well,
we
all
understand.
In
sum,
The
Local
Pub
is
a
Thredbo
institution
that
deserves
your
business
-
but
if
you're
after
fine
dining,
maybe
just
have
a
few
cool
ones
here
first
and
then
go
on
to
Berntis.
Pro
tip:
the
local
ravens
patrolling
the
deck
will
talk
to
you,
if
you
speak
to
them
politely.
