Cerro
de
la
Cruz
is
a
mountain
located
in
the
northern
area
of
Charallave,
specifically
at
the
entrance
to
"La
Chivera".
It
is
a
space
that
for
more
than
80
years
has
served
as
a
center
of
religious
worship
of
the
Holy
Cross,
and
it
is
decorated
and
lit
with
lights
on
dates
of
religious
importance
accompanied
by
songs
and
prayers.
The
first
cross
placed
on
the
mountain
dates
back
to
approximately
1935,
it
was
made
of
wood.
Later,
due
to
age
and
deterioration,
it
was
supplanted
by
an
Iron
Cross,
which
was
placed
in
2002
under
the
Mayor's
Office.
by
Maricela
de
Brito
in
conjunction
with
the
La
Chivera
Community.
From
that
date
on,
the
space
was
abandoned
due
to
the
high
crime
rate
and
insecurity
that
surrounds
the
municipality.
For
14
years
the
town
of
Charallave
stopped
enjoying
the
festivities
at
the
"Cerro
de
la
Cruz"
and
its
emblematic
lighting.
However,
after
more
than
a
decade,
the
space
is
once
again
recovered
and
reactivated
as
a
nature
reserve,
sports
space,
tourist
hostel,
cultural,
historical
and
religious
symbol
of
the
municipality
under
the
hand
and
implementation
of
the
Cristóbal
Rojas
Democratic
Action
Team.
