Fort has entrance fee for adults for 25rs per person. Drinking ro water available inside fort. Outside fort very few shops for water bottle or coconut sold. No proper parking area and only roadside parking available. Nice place to visit with kids and people with historical interest. Recommend to visit by evening hours as we get drained at noon. Shiva temple inside a cave and steps to climb is setup. Good experience to see. City view from top of fort. Maintained well without garbage.

I reached this place on evening. This fort is in the custody of ASI. Timing is morning 9 to evening 5. So i could not enter this fort. But i took photos from outside. I visited the two temples of Shiva and Vishnu, but not taken any photos. Surrounding are many old monuments. But it is not properly maintained.

A small sized fort. You can spend somewhere close to an hour or two here. Small sized parking space good enough for 5 to 6 cars. Parking is free, entrance charge is 25 rupees for Indians and 300 for foreigners. Watch out for monkeys in the fort. They steal/snatch food from people's hands. Toilet is available and seems hygienic. There aren't boulders or rails everywhere so parents who bring children need to be careful. Best to visit during sunset as it might get too hot. Steps are vertically inclined so senior citizens might not be able to climb easily.

Maintained beautifully by the Archaeological survey of India, this fort doesn't have much to offer! There is a cannon right at the top, and the view is breathtaking. It's hard to escape the scorching sun though! Before we enter the main premise, there is a Shiva lingam in a cave that can be accessed by metal stairs. For entrance, one can pay via cash or prefer online payment by scanning the QR code. Also, ample parking space is available.

The fort is well maintained by ASI and the entry ticket is 20rs. It has a garden, children's play area and purified drinking water near the entrance. The fort is above a small hill, one has to climb the steps to enter the fort. The walls are still intact without any damage, the walls have multiple view holes to look downhill for any incoming attack by enemies. There are a couple of canons one at the entrance and another at the top. There is another small high rise fort at the top which gives an aerial view of surrounding areas. There is a small shiva ling carved inside a rock which can be accessed by an iron ladder. It was not crowded during our visit, young couples use this as a hangout spot to make love ;) . No dedicated parking. You can spend a couple of hours here, nothing much.

Nice old temple.. Looks different than other famous temple.. Very big perumal and sivan, not even in srirangam. Due to lack of facilities those temples are low popularity. Must visit temples like srirangam and tanjaore, definitely you will mersal.

Located off the NH 536, on the way to Karaikudi from Trichy, the Fort is preserved by ASI. Keeping in mind the dry weather conditions, Fort can be best visited during December through February. There is a steep climb from the foothill through a carved series of steps, we reach the entrance. There is an alternate way too to reach the inner complex via a window. Before continuing to the top, we can see a huge stone resembling the Krishna's Butterball of Mahabalipuram. A few more steps ahead, we reach the main complex where there is a stage for getting the 360° panoramic view. There was not much information displayed about the fort, its history or the view points. The openings through the Fort walls are a concern for danger and one should be cautious peeping through them. Toilet facility is available and parking is allowed on the inner ring road. Cleanliness outside the fort is also a concern and tourists should stay alert traversing the walkways.

FOREiGNER DON T PAY 300rs to go inside. Poster at the entrance is just lie or robbery. Inside fortifications is only one of 3 roc cut temples and the worst. Even these fort is not nice and all you see from outside is sufficient. The 2 others are free entrance in the temples ground floor of the village. And those 2 are nicely carved...

Good historic place located very near to the Perumal temple. This place is also having a cave where kattabomman used to stay. We need to climb the steel steps which is not advisable for kids. There is also a Siva temple near to this fort. The rock cut temple is a must visit. Thirumayam

Visited this fort with friends. A 300+ year old fort maintained by ASI. The fort is located on a small hill from which the view is nice and a small rock cut shivan temple located here deserves a special mention. overall, a good historical place to spend some time with friends and family.

There is nothing to see here except the fortified walls and canon at the top. Car parking is available Maintained by ASI and has less stairs to reach the top. Old and young people can climb easily. A Vishnu Temple is nearby The shiva temple or the lone shiva lingam is a must visit spot. Good place for relaxation and see the NHAI from top

You can view the fort from the highway itself. Easy to locate, not enough space for parking. This place has restrooms in the fort itself. Slightly steep to climb but absolutely worth it to enjoy the beautiful view from the top.

This is a fort which has lot historical significance. Apart this is a fort which strategically constructed. You will realise it once you stand near the canon. This is one of the tallest hill in the region, and you have a clear visibility surrounding from its position. ASI has taken care of the monument very well. There is an entry fee of Rs.20, and visitors are allowed between 10 Am to 5 PM. There is a cave temple in the same spot.

We went on a Friday afternoon, which meant it was not crowded. They have well-maintained gardens and there are shady places to rest. Their toilets are not well maintained at the time I visited. The tickets cost 60rs per head as Indians. There is a small hike to the top of the fort maybe 20 to 30 steps. Once you reach the top, there is a structure with an additional 20 steps, which had a cannon and breathtaking views of karaikudi. Definitely worth the climb. An overall good place to visit with scenic views, nooks, and corners to rest. There is also a shiva lingam (see photos) inside a rock-cut cave. However, the climb to the shiva lingam is a bit precarious due to the ladder.

We came across this place while we were travelling in the highways. There is a entry price. 25 per person. It doesn’t look like a fort exactly. I would say it is a rocky place. There is no parking space separately available for this fort. You have to park it by the road side. It is located in a remote area. There are not much shops. The steps were a bit difficult to walk. You have to be be very careful walking on them. You can spend around an hour here. When you climb to the top of the rocky place, there is a canon. By the side of the fort, there is a small cave which was originally a rock first, where a shiv lingam was made by mining inside that rock.

The Thirumayam Fort is believed to have been built in 1687 AD by the Raja of Ramnad, Sethupathy Vijaya Ragunatha Thevar. He later handed over the fort to his brother-in-law, Ragunatha Raya Tondaiman. The fort has an interesting ring design and is constructed with seven concentric walls surrounded by a broad moat. However, only four such walls are left standing now. The construction of the fort doesn’t show great craftsmanship as it is built of small stone blocks and bricks. The current fort stands on a 40-acres wide fortress while the original structure was at least two times larger than what is seen today.

(Translated by Google) On the way to Madurai from Pudukkottai, 1200 Thirumayam Fort is an immortal art symbol that has been around for centuries and is still one of the newest treasures. That too in AD. Many cave temples built in Tamil Nadu in the 8th century were and still are the historical monuments of Thirumayam. Maruvi, by the time of 'Thirumeyyam', has been called by us as Thirumayam. This town in the northern language It is called 'Satya Sethram'. The region came under the rule of the Ramanathapuram Sethupathi kings in the 16th-17th centuries AD. At that time, Thirumayam was the northern border of the Ramanathapuram principality. The region was ruled by the Pallavarayars under the management of the Sethupathis. Vijaya Iragunath Thevar alias Kizhavan Sethupathi, who ruled Ramanathapuram in 1673-1708 AD, built a huge fort made of black stone with seven round walls on a perimeter of 40 acres. Later, due to marital relations between King Sethupathi and the Thondaiman dynasty of Pudukottai, the Thirumayam area under the Pallavarayas came under the rule of the Thondaiman kings. The fort was hugely built with seven circular walls, but now only four walls remain. The structure of the fort is circular. The fort is also known as the 'Padmak Fort' and has a deep moat around the outer wall. Today the fort still has majestic entrances in three directions: north, south and southeast. Byrvar is the guardian deity of the north gate and Hanuman, Shakti and Ganapati are the southern gatekeepers. In the south-east, Muniswara is also guarded as a guardian deity. It gives us the feeling of entering beyond the confines of a majestic fort at that time. The reason is that Thirumayam Fort is before us as a wonderful historical document to see today what fortifications the fortifications were equipped to withstand the onslaught of the enemy in those days Stands. Walls have been erected around it. There are gaps in the brick handrail built at the top around the inner granite wall to hold weapons and allow people to hide. Going up to the inner fort, a single stone weighing 100 tons finds herbal paintings by ancient humans who lived on the cliff about 2000 years ago. To its south, there is a large room built of black stone. It was used as a security room for warheads at that time பட்டது. Opposite this, on the western slope of the cliff, at a height of 20 feet, stands a cave temple of the finest classical art. This cave temple and the Shiva and Vishnu cave temples located on the south slope date back to AD. Belonging to the eighth century. A cannon is placed on a special granite platform 20 feet high above the fort. Six such cannons are placed at the northern, southern and eastern entrances of the fort. For this, a small pond has been set up in the south to store rain water. Used as drinking water during stay here. Such a large puddle is to the north of the fort. With these, those inside it for months had no need to go outside for drinking water. AD After the reign of Kizhava Sethupathi in 1708, Sethupathi Thandathevan assumed power. There was a war between Bhavanisagar, the son of Kizhava Sethupathi, and Thandathevan over who would be the king. Thandathevan was able to win this battle for the kingship with the help of Pudukottai Thondaiman king Iragunatharayath Thondaiman. As a token of gratitude for this victory, Thandath Devan Thirumayam presented the fort to King Thondaiman. Therefore, AD. Thirumayam Fort came under the control of the Thondaiman kings from 1723 onwards (Original) #புதுக்கோட்டையில் இருந்து #மதுரை செல்லும் வழியில் 1200 #ஆண்டுகால #தொன்மைப் #புகழ்மிக்க #திருமயம்...
