Arulmigu Varadharaja Perumal Temple is an ancient temple of Tirunelveli. History has it that KIng Paramarajan who was the ruler of this region was a staunch devotee of Sri Varadaraja Perumal. While bathing in Tambraparani river, he got the blue stone idol of Lord Vishnu. He built a temple for him by installing the idol. So deep was his devotion that even when his kingdom was invaded by enemies, he did not go to war - but chose to be in the temple, praying to Lord. Responding to his prayers, the Lord Varadharaja came to the battlefield in his form and defeated the enemies. One should have darshan of this powerful temple.

Such an Impressive Temple.. Temple is more than 1000 years old, Spanning from the Time of Raja Raja Chola I.. Looks like a Fort when seen from Inside.. Athivarathar Darshan happening once in 40 years is very popular.

Shri Veeraragava Perumal temple (Utchavar Shri Varadharaja Perumal) is about 500 mts South of Trinelveli junction, on the eastern side of railway line. The temple is apparently very old as this part of the town was known as Veeraragava Nallur long back. The Utchavar Shri Varadharaja Perumal with Shridevi, Bhoodevi and Shri Andal Nachiaar. There is a beautiful and serene Shri Hanuman on the northern side.
