Really nice volcano and little bit challenging path. There were no other foreign tourist there when we took hike. This route is popular mainly among Indonesians hikers which do two days hike - first day to third camp (last camp under summit) and in the morning of the next day they go up to the summit to see sunrise and then back down. However if you do not want to see sunrise it can be also done in one day. If you are in really good shape, you can get to third camp in less then 4 hours (without large backpack) and it takes another hour to the summit. It's really steepy sometimes which slows down descending so make sure you start early in the morning. The path is easily recognized so you will not get lost, we have done part of it in dark and easily managed to get back to village. There are water tanks along the route and they are connected together. We have actually tried the water and have not had any health problems. Locals will ask 75000 entry fee per person, but this probably applies only to foreigners, because we have asked other groups of hikers there and noone paid that much. When locals offers you motorcycle ride do not take it. They will only take you like 500m and ask 25000 for it. Also locals have asked our taxi driver 50000 parking fee while she was waiting few minutes. However not every local is greedy there. My friend lost his hat on the way down and some local guy offered him free ride to the start of route to see if they can find it and while I was waiting for him, his wife made me a tea.

The 6 kilometer route from the jungle boundary to the peak of Ketengsongo, has an exciting and unique road, the contour of the road is relatively dirt, and if it rains it will be very slippery, the travel time from the jungle boundary to post 3 (camp) takes around 6 hours. , but 200 meters before post 3, there is a water post. So you are expected to bring enough water, because the terrain is quite difficult and steep.

The attendee is very humble and helpful, they provide some goods to be rent, but the place is in renovating condition so it's not comfortable to stay over in the night

Not for the faint hearted. It was quite challenging for first timer/did not train. Recommend to condition yourself if you’re sedentary. Overall the view is to die for. Had porters to set up our tent & cook our food. Brought our 40l bag with essentials. Quite a priceless experience as the hikers are friendly & always motivating one another. Highly recommend for those who love scenic views.

The route is quite spicy, the base camp is complete, there are food stalls, etc., the Suwanting route is very clear, water sources are available in abundance.

At the main BC, my friends' belongings disappeared, and the base camp seemed to throw up their hands, not wanting to take responsibility, many things were lost, such as wallets containing identification, important cards, bags and their contents, coats, etc. There is no intention from those who own the basecamp to take responsibility, they say "if it's for things, we don't dare hold them, we're afraid of climbers." My advice, if you see items that are not secured, the base camp should take the initiative to secure the climber's belongings while they are leaving them to climb. Apart from the beauty of the Merbabu route via Suwanting, yes. The basecamp fees are bad and expensive.
