I chose this room because I was able to eat in a 400-year-old country house where the chef would prepare the food right in front of me. The room is nicer than I expected and is a very relaxing space. The surroundings are so quiet that you forget you're in Nagoya. You can hear the sound of trees and leaves swaying in the wind and the chirping of birds. The dishes include soups made with carefully selected soup stock, and bonito fish and matsutake mushrooms cooked over charcoal right in front of your eyes. After the meal, we had a relaxing cup of tea and were shown around the Miyuki no Ma and garden, which were built as the accommodation for Emperor Showa.     This restaurant really blew our minds. We couldn't stop exclaiming wows. It really wasn't a restaurant in the usual sense. The business has been in that location for 97 years while the building was much older as a former residence. We had a private room which looked out into a large and beautiful garden. The meal was wonderful as was the service. Afterwards we were given a tour of the grounds which included a 400 year old small house. This was our most expensive kaiseki meal and one of our top most memorable dining experiences.

    八勝館といえば名古屋を代表する名料亭。令和2年に重要文化財に指定され、年に一度、8月に見学日があります。お部屋やしつらい、お庭を拝見できます。女将に案内してもらい、離れの田舎家で昼食をいただきました。堀口捨巳の設計は桂離宮の意匠を現代に活かした造りで、明るくリズミカルです。御幸の間は池にせり出した造りで、庭(自然)との一体感を持たせながらも開放感あふれる斬新な和モダンでした。残月の間は数寄を凝らし数寄に遊んだ自在の境地が伺えます。甲賀から移築した田舎家も鄙びた風情で興趣はつきません。お軸は鵜を描いたものが各部屋に配され、お部屋では鮎を焼いてくれるそうです。季節の楽しみ方が心の贅沢です。満ち足りた一日でしたが、庭が紅葉に染まる季節にも訪れたい気がしました。
