(Translated by Google) I understand the history of Makabe. Speaking of Makabe, when I was younger, when I was absorbed in a competition called motorcycle trials with my daughter, I went to Trial Land here in Makabe every week. The All Japan Trial Championship was also held, and my daughter was a player and I participated as a helper every year. Therefore, when we talk about Makabe, there is only recognition that it is a trial, and I was not interested in history at all. After my daughter retired, I suddenly remembered Makabe, so I visited after a long time. I went to the old streets, the traditional museum, and the ruins of Makabe Castle, and learned about Makabe town and its history, and I could understand its goodness. The tradition hall explained the history of Makabe from ancient times to the present day in an easy-to-understand manner, and the exhibits were organized in an easy-to-read manner. There is also a parking lot, and I'm happy that it's free, and there's also a library.

I'm happy to say it's free. There are table benches on the Mt. Tsukuba side (east side) where the parking lot is, so you can take a break after walking around town, or you can order some fried food at Miyamoto Butcher Shop in front of the Denshokan and take a break while waiting for it to be fried. I think so. Although it is a new building, it does not harm the scenery and blends in well with the atmosphere of Makabe, Little Kyoto, so you can rest assured. The facility is both a local community facility and a facility for visitors. It is fully equipped with exhibits about the history of Makabe, including excavated pottery and dioramas of old townscapes, a library with a playground for small children, a large hall, and conference rooms. If you walk through the old streets of Makabe (the layout of the town seems to have remained unchanged since the Edo period) while looking at the old maps distributed at the folklore museum, you will discover many things and have a fun time.

I went during the Hinamatsuri period! The monument to the seventh ambassador felt like art, and I thought it was wonderful to see that it was made by a citizen, with various names and symbols written on the pedestal! In the main building, I was impressed by the handmade items made by elementary school students, such as hanging dolls, old telephones, and washboards! The table explaining Ibaraki dialect was also interesting (lol) Eating and drinking are not allowed in the Makabe Library, but it was quiet and I was able to read magazines, manga, and history books calmly at the table. I learned that the Tsukuba History Museum had closed down, where I could see the Tsukuba Railway's heritage such as tickets, signboards, timetables, etc., so I wanted to experience the history from Tsuchiura to Iwase on Rinrin Road next time! I had a great time being healed, seeing the history of Makabe, and seeing retro things.

Makabe town is famous for its Hinamatsuri - Doll festival. Access possible through car/public transport or by biking along the Rin Rin Road (Bikers are to turn into the town at the Makabecho rest stop). Hinamatsuri period is awesome with doll displays along many streets and in old Japanese homes. Hina dolls with lots of history as well as those with more modern designs are on display. As with any Japanese festival - there is also lots of great food! Festival food-wise - fried mochi on stick served with a dash of soy sauce is delicious. The hina-arare - rice crackers in many colors are great!! For lunch - highly recommend Suiton from a local place - made with all local ingredients. Really warms the tummy and the soul in the chill of february/march! Since the festival runs for a few weeks - various events like tea ceremonies, paper boat making (for nagashibina ceremony), etc are organised at the community center. A full Bunraku/Ningyo Joruri performance (traditional Japanese puppet show) by local artists is also scheduled annually. The show (free of charge) is amazing and is a must watch. The audience are allowed to experiment with bunraku puppets after the show! In addition to various events and displays at the community center, there are also displays of Tsukuba yaki - earthenware made in Tsukuba and street chalk art (near 神武天皇遥拝殿 jinja) - where people can draw with chalk on the road. On Girl's day (usually) - Nagashibina ceremony is arranged for all to participate. It starts with rituals at the 神武天皇遥拝殿 jinja. Then, everyone walks to the river and float little boats with folded paper obina and mebina (male and female doll figurines) that carry bad luck away. The paper boats are kindly distributed by temple/town personnel and are made either at the community center or at local schools by children. The festival ran with a reduced crowd and social distancing precautions in 2020 during Covid pandemic. The festival was unfortunately cancelled in 2021 due to the pandemic. :( To note: During the festival period, the interior roads of the town are closed or restricted to vehicles because people walk through the streets looking at the doll displays. For people going to makabe by car - getting there earlier (8:00 - 9:00 am) and taking a look at the available parking lots ahead of the journey is highly recommended. Direct bus services are also available between Tsukuba center and Makabe for the duration of the festival. Visitors can ask Tsukuba information center for details.

(Translated by Google) It is located on the site of the Makabe clan's encampment where Nagamasa Asano, one of Hideyoshi's five magistrates, retired. There is also a history museum and library where the history of Makabe is introduced. I am happy that admission is free. Nagamasa Asano died in this Jinya and his body was buried in Koyasan. In addition, there is a grave at Denshoji Temple nearby.

After visiting Magatei Yoshi, I stopped by to see that it was closed on Mondays... The building was magnificent and beautiful. I'll stop by again when I'm in this area. Visited again on Saturday, February 23, 2019, around 10:30. It was a Saturday during Makabe's Doll's Festival, so the pedestrian zone was crowded with tourists. There are events at the Makabe Denshokan, but it wasn't too crowded and I was able to see it. I went to see the folklore museum this time, but there weren't that many exhibits, and it only took about 10 minutes to walk around. It's free, so it can't be helped, but the building is quite impressive, so it's a waste! It might be better to have hina decorations all year round. The parking lot of the folklore museum will not be available during this period.

I visited Makabe during Doll's Festival. There is a tourist information center, which you can use to start your walk around town. It's a new and clean facility.

A facility built on the site of Makabe Jinya. In addition to displaying materials in the main building and historical museum, there are also restorations of ruins, displays of remains, and specimens torn from the moat. What was even more surprising was how the remains of the pond were expressed with different paving and metal wires. It also had a library and a hall, making it a perfect place for learning.

(Translated by Google) It is a complex facility that functions as a public hall, library, and museum, and opened on September 1, 2011. The History Museum exhibits the history of Sakuragawa City. In front of Corona, the Makabe Hinamatsuri was held in March every year around this tradition hall.

Admission is free, and parking is available on the east and north sides of the folklore museum. The folklore museum itself was small, and later the library and hall made up most of the facility.

Hina matsuri in Makabe in February is an interesting. It is organized along the several streets near the city hall. You can enjoy walking in old town and viewing small toys dressed in old traditional styles at every door. There are many parking places there.

(Translated by Google) I will tell you the atmosphere of the castle town of Makabe's castle during the Warring States period. Since the castle was abandoned in the early Edo period, it prospered as a post station after that, and it is said that a folklore hall was built on the site where the Jinya was.
