First I want to say the service was happy and friendly, lots of attention, just the right levels. Even when we ask for one more drink near closing, there was no muss and there was no fuss. Just happy friendly service. The waitress even knew that a 14-in pizza is bigger than two 10-in pizzas! I wasn't too crazy about the flagship mushroom pizza that they have, they had a weird cream Wisconsin cheese on it, and I don't think it really worked. It wasn't terrible, it was actually good, just a little off-putting. I got to think about that a little bit. I'm anxious to try the other pizzas. The mushroom soup was delectable.

Had high hopes, reviews were good and was referred by someone to give it a try. Sorry but just not good, had the classic with about 4 toppings . We each had one slice and didn’t even finish .We ended up giving it to a homeless guy in the parking lot who was really thankful . Baffled by the raving reviews honestly . Jacks frozen pizza with your own fresh ingredients beats this all day long. It was the first time, and we are always willing to give a place a second shot, and will give it another go. First impression not much motivation for going again.

Clean location, staff wore masks during our visit. Food came out hot and smelled amazing! This location didn’t have the pine apple ale.

Mellow mushroom is a great place for outside dining, the food is not your typical pizza. Awesome salads, original pizzas and so much more. The staff is friendly and attentive . Greg the manager is so welcoming and making us feel at home!! Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I understand that the restaurant is changing but this was the worst experience that I ever had going out to eat. Waiter took almost 45min to greet us, the beer we ordered was completely flat and the price is different then the menu a big red flag coming in the culinary world. The food was decent, ordered wing and they were dry but not far gone and their pizza was actually a good pie. I would love to see the new place but after my experience, I don't think I will come back.

Arrived before 5pm on a Saturday night. Plenty of seating options...tables, booths, bar...all with no wait! Comfortable and modern interior, and wasn't noisy at that hour. Pleasantly surpried by the depth of the food and alcohol menus. The mushroom soup was delicious, and the Cobb salad was definitely large enough to share with two or more people. Ordered one plain and one holy shiitaki pizza! The plain cheese had mild tomato sauce, not overseasoned, and also, plenty of cheese without having to add extra. There were 2 crust options, classic and thin, we chose thin, which was delicious! Another added bonus was that the toppings went all the way to the edge of the crust. Not a lot of extra dough around the edges, so definitely felt like we were getting our money's worth. The Holy Shiitaki mushroom pizza was absolutely my FAVORITE! With several different types of mushrooms and cheeses, along with super sweet caramelized onions and truffle oil, this pizza was a show-stopper! Will definitely be back!

Came on a busy night, decided to sit near the bar since there was only two of us. Live entertainment was loud and was hard to indulge in conversation and properly hear each-other. The food was reasonably priced and satisfying. Good place to come from some drinks and some pizza.

Went for the first time the other day and it was pretty good. A little pricey but for two adults an two kids it wasn't as bad as I expected. Food was great in my opinion. Staff were so nice. Definitely recommend.

Oct 2018: They have small/med/large create your own pizzas starting at $10 for 1 ingredient on a small. Each topping $1-2. Some items count double like fresh mozzarella and chicken. They put like no basil on it though so it's a waste. The tomatoes are good. It comes with a base of 3 sauce choices and cheese counts as a topping. They put parmesan cheese on the crust. They have vegan cheese which is ok but tastes more like thick goat cheese. They have a bunch of beers on the draft list. A few ciders in bottle or cans. Had good beers before, but the Yuengling was flat this time; that can be anywhere though. The servers are always super sweet and check in on you as well as the manager. They have $5 wine bottles on Wednesdays and Happy Hour all Sunday. Trivia on Monday 6pm-8pm. Happy hour M-F 3pm-7pm. Older music mix ups from all decades. 2.2.19:  I love this place, the staff and the atmosphere. But my biggest concern is there are always so many kegs that kicked or are flat every time we come. Even on a Friday or Saturday night, such as today. Last time was a few other beers, but the Miller was the shocker. Today was a few others, but the other shocker was the 1 cider, Angry Orchard, had to resort to a bottle. But the pizza was the best pizza we've had here! We got the pesto swirl added and it was the best idea! I got it with vegan cheese with chicken and spinach. My other half got regular cheese with chicken and red peppers. The crust and dough was so fluffy and good.

On NYE with a party of 5 at 7pm the place was pretty quiet & empty. Probably bc of the party event they had prior to our arrival. Nice cool decor & pretty good service. All 3 pizzas that we ordered came out hot & fresh & tasty, The Funky Q. Chicken, Potato, & Holy Shiitake pizza's. Our appetizers were scrumptious & delightful, Whether that was the pretzel bites with beer cheese or the bruschetta, or the mild chicken wings with yummy blue cheese. My drink was a margarita that has 2 types of patron in it & it was definitely diluted with patron. Then I wanted to have a Red Bull & Vodka but guess what, They were out of Red Bull. So I had to settle with a shot of jagermeister. Plus later on I wanted a Samuel Adams October fest & they were out of that. So our deserts the cookie & a brownie both tastless pitiful sweets. Overall good tasty food, alright service, bland desserts, & a lack of inventory.

I've been to mellow mushroom four or five times. The food is very good but the service is usually poor

I love Mellow Mushroom. The Food and Drinks are always great! They have the freshest and the best salads, pizza and apps. If you're a vegetarian the menu has a nice selection of choices. Staff is friendly & attentive, Managers interact with the customers which is not something that I've seen in many of the other local restaurants. As regular customers before the pandemic our dining experience was always been a thumbs up (our kids love it too). We have never left unhappy. But I must say I commend you for all the work that was put into making outside dining a enjoyable and beautiful experience. Great job! Highly recommend.

As weekly customers arrived on 7/31 at 3:59pm. Was told to wait as they cleaned a table outside. Upon returning offered small tables not under tent. This is a rainy day and we drove through a downpour! We asked for a table under tent which there were 8 at least empty. Was told oh those are reserved! Since when are all tables reserved at 4pm. No accommodations just thats it. We said we would go to another restaurant. She said ok. We left. What a shame as this has been one of our favorite restaurants and we live in Whiting! Huge turn off. Staff needs to learn to ck with mgt in a case like this. We always sung this places praises. :(

Took advantage of an offer and was so happy! We had the Buffalo Chicken pizza and the Wild in Havana pizza. Both were delicious! Not bad on the price either for specialty pizzas. Each was $22 for a medium. Service was great also. Very attentive. We will definitely be going back. It's a must try.

I first had Mellow Mushroom in NC and loved it - then came home to NJ to find that they were opening one here! The majority of visits since have been great - the crust is really unique. I like a doughier/chewier crust, so if that's not up your alley, you might not like it. The flavors are always great and the appetizers always hit the spot. There has been a time or two when our order came out wrong or it wasn't up to expectation, but the staff is always personable, and they always make it right in the end. One thing that is great is the tempeh/tofu topping offerings - more and more places are finally offering meat substitutes but Mellow Mushroom has been doing it since they opened and they are typically great with substituting either for meat on the pizzas. I have noticed a smaller craft beer selection lately. I'm pretty sure when they opened, they had a larger selection of revolving taps - now it seems a more generic permanent selection. They've got Lagunitas, Dogfish Head, and some Toms River Brewing, but would like to see some other locals or seasonal revolving selections again. Overall, it's a great place to check out if you haven't been! I feel like it's tough for chains to compete with hometown pizzerias in New Jersey, but Mellow Mushroom brings something a little different, and I'm into it.

The atmosphere was pretty cool. Has a modern chill vibe with the lighting done right to fit the setting. The service was very good considering it was dinner time on a Saturday night. That said, I expected more seats to be full when we got there. As far as the food goes, we got a few specialty pies with a voucher we had for a free specialty pie. Sadly, the pizza was underwhelming even though they had a decent selection with some good ideas for toppings. There was a lack of certain toppings on our 1st pie and was overpriced for what we got. ($28 for a large specialty pie). The pizza was very doughy and the crust was roughly 25% of the pizza. I felt like I overpaid for extra dough. The 2nd pie was better than the first so maybe it was just the particular pie we ordered, but overall, I wasn’t jumping out of my seat for the pizza. I did hear the calzones are good so I will try that again next time. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 3 is because I enjoyed the actual dining experience and the hostess and server were great which is an important component of dining out, in my opinion.

Food is great, pizzas are very unique and reasonably priced. We came on Friday night which we didn’t know was live music night. He was good but it was very loud. Loud enough that is was difficult to have a conversation. But overall I would definitely recommend.

I love the pizza. Now I know I like the wings too! We tried the shitake mushroom and the special. I can't decide which one was better. Nice crisp crust on both pies. Wings were perfect. I always get sauce on the side in case I don't like it. These were tasty with or without sauce. I chose the Tai Chili sauce- just the right heat to sweet. Our server was courteous and attentive. Very helpful. Definitely a nice place. My only concern is that the music is loud if you are trying to converse, but others might mind.

“First visit not great but will give a second try” FOOD was not cooked well because they overcooked the pizza a lot, it was tough and chewy because of how overcooked it was. still had a pretty good taste to the crust and I could see it being good when not burnt. MENU was a little crazy on the type of pizzas but overall was cool that it was different than same old boring pizza. Also having VEGAN PIZZA OPTION makes the menu 5 star. Careful when ordering pizzas to look at the base they are not all the common pizza sauce you expect, there is pesto, herb aioli, and olive oil bases that actually are more frequent than the red sauce so read the description.⭐️ SERVICE is mediocre the chef let the pizza come out burnt which most chefs would never do. The staff wasn’t bad but wasn’t really great either. LOCATION is pretty cool there is a bar and a pretty big seating area. Doesn’t seem to usually have a wait at dinner time. Offers takeout also. ⭐️ Will update after second visit

I really enjoyed my first time experience at the mellow mushroom 🍄 its a diamond in the rough . I had no idea what to expect when we pulled into the parking lot . There's a large life (man) size psychedelic lizard made out of metal outside of the front door , inside is is a huge open floor plan with a open ceiling with that industrial design and plenty of seating throughout . I was quite impressed . You can sit in high top tables, or comfy booths for intimate gatherings . Their fast to great you with a smile and your menus and your drink orders and their menus have pretty much something for everyone , they even have gluten free pizza. 😀 They are very accommodating with your order and it was a nice treat to have potato tots that were hot and crunchy instead of fries with my lunch for a change ! They do have an outside area also to dine on a beautiful day . I'd have to say I'd give this restaurant 5***** stars and look forward to my next time going up to Tom's River NJ to visit dear friends and having lunch again after church there again , it's a Wonderful Place , for family , friends , to sit back and relax . Have yourself a good time an enjoyable meal in an very relaxing memorable place .

Cool place. But it's a pizza place from a state, that's not known for good pizza, in New Jersey.... Wings were wet not crispy b/c they're bake and not fried. I guess if you like dominos or pizza hut this is a place to check out. Local beers on tap and a big bar area you'll always find a seat.

Have been to many locations in other states and was finally nearby to try this one. Couldn’t find it at first. Restaurant name has changed and signage was seen on the ground next to the building.

First let me just say that this place has a great atmosphere great music and great food. We had the wings for an app and they were really good. The pizza here is absolutely amazing. My two slight issues here were my drink, the sunset Paradise had some ooey gooey mess around the outside of the glass to hold the coconut shavings and I didn't realize and full on grabbed the glass as anyone would do and had sticky fingers for the night and the other was our menu and the placard at our table was slightly dirty. Other than that highly recommend trying this place out. You will not be disappointed.

No longer the Mellow Mushroom. “Lot 11 Eleven” had good food. But the atmosphere was poor and depressing, the prices were insane and the portions were very small. I would not suggest coming here until they clean up better. Don’t see this staying open long.

Went here for the 1st time. We had the mello special, basically everything on the pizza and I have to say it was REALLY good! From the crust all the way tot he fresh ingredients that u can definitely taste! We also had the meatball appetizer which was really good! Drinks and food are definitely priced right and high quality, drinks are also very fair and priced well. Atmosphere was great, place set up and style was great, character was walking around which brought additional smiles to everyone present and the service was excellent as well! I will definitely recommend and come back to this place for sure! Great job everyone and keep up the good work! The picture I posted was a left over slice I took home...its alot fresher then that! But still was good even when I reheated it the next day! Lol

What a great addition to Tom's River! I used to have this back in VA and loved it. Never thought they'd infiltrate the NJ pizza elitism, but I'm so glad they did. They have some of the best pizza around and am excellent draft list as well. If you haven't tried it you don't know what you're missing!

It was s family dinner and everyone was pleased with their food except for me. They ran out of their famous mushroom soup which is why I went there. The bathrooms needed attention and the grounds could of been better kept. There was one smoking section but the ashtray was bursting out the top.

First time trying this place and will not be back. First, I order the wings as an appetizer and a sandwich called the Havana Hoagie. The girl comes back 5 minutes later and says they can't make the sandwich because they ran out of pork. I then order the meatball sandwich instead. A few minutes later they bring out the wings, they advertise as being twice oven baked and crispy, which are cold and soggy and not the least bit crispy and the sauce was terrible, and no celery sticks which they also advertise. Probably the worst wings I have had as far as I can remember. Then the meatball sandwich comes out with dried out, overcooked meatball pieces and a sauce that tastes like a cheap jar sauce, and they charge you $12 for it to boot. For $5 you could get a wawa meatball sub which is tastier and of better quality than what they offer. We also ordered a "pacific rim" pizza which was undercooked. Overall it was a very disappointing experience to say the least. I think the gnats that I had to swat away while we were eating enjoyed it a lot more than we did.
