A wonderful temple complex with many statues, monuments and temples. It is very close to the Tokyo Tower so it’s advantageous to visit before or after the tower. The temple allows for peaceful and quiet contemplation throughout the area. The child monuments are beautiful with their colorful hats and bibs. It has a lot of history in a central location.

Beautiful place to visit right near by Tokyo Tower and Shiba Park. Weather permitting, also a great place for portraits. If you take your time and spend some time in the surrounding area inside the Temple’s premises you’ll fine beautiful corners to shoot and make nice travel photography. For portrait photography it is also an awesome place as it has many options.

Beautiful temple to visit. I highly recommend it. It a huge temple, I didn’t get to explore all of it, but I saw what I wanted. Please make sure that you are respectful, ask for permission if you feel unsure about something. The monks are friendly if you see them walking around. But please ask for their permission before taking a picture. If they’re in the middle of a prayer definitely do not interrupt or interfere. Sad that I have to say that but you do have individual that really just don’t care. The gift shop is amazing. Fun little gift at reasonable prices that you can get in bulk as friends and family.

Very beautiful temple. I went early in the morning around 9 am, and there weren't many people. There was service going on in the temple, and I was able to watch everything thru the open doors on the side of the temple. Watching them perform their ceremony was quite peaceful and beautiful, one of the best experiences I had in Tokyo.

One of the best place for getting good shot of Tokyo tower. It is consider quite inaccessible by using public transport, 10-15 minutes walk from subway station, that makes it relatively quiet in Tokyo city.

Located right near Tokyo Tower, this historic temple is a must visit in Japan. There are lots of gardens and parks that surround the area. We went here on the weekend and it was a lively and pleasent experience. It's also free to visit and there are lots of areas to see inside the temple walls. I highly recommend stopping by this iconic Buddhist temple.

The temple is located next to the Tokyo Tower and one can visit it along the way as well to experience the Buddhist culture in Japan. It is constructed in the 17th century and has a rich history. Normally, during big festivals, there will be a carnival in the compound to mark the festival.

(Translated by Google) A temple set up with Dawn at the foot of Tokyo Tower 🗼. It has a history of 600 years! It is the head temple of the Jodo sect opened by Honen, and is also a famous temple protected by the Tokugawa Shogunate. Go out to the ground exit of the subway "Daimon" station and pass the torii gate, and you will see a large building called "Sanmon Gate" in front of you. After passing through it, the main hall (main hall) is built with the Tokyo Tower behind it. Famous places in the precincts include the Tokugawa family's graveyard and the bell tower with 1,300 dedication Jizo. As of the winter of 3rd year of Reiwa, the main hall is undergoing major roof tile re-roofing work. Due to the state of emergency, the number of tourists and visitors is small and quiet. Let's wait until the cherry blossoms are in full bloom in April. I would say my fav template in Tokyo and surprised why it’s not very crowded. The temple, its garden and the backdrop of Tokyo tower it’s so beautiful and a great place to take some amazing pictures. The park has a coffeeshop inside and a short walk to Tokyo tower. Definitely visit this temple if you are in the area.

Beautiful temple with many buildings, shrines, statues and history etc. Has a gorgeous tea house set in lovely setting and you can book for tea ceremony (but I think they only have them once a month). Lovely to spend time in the grounds here and visit the temple. The area for the guardians of the children was beautiful and quite an emotional experience.

Frankly speaking more than temple there are people who come to check on Tokyo Tower. It is a eye catching place next to skytree. The temple is situated at the front of the tower surrounded by Shiba park with parking lot. No entrance free and near to Shibapark station and if it is JR hamamatsu station is the nearest. Now you could encounter ume and soon it will become a best place for sakura viewing with the Tokyo Tower at the background

It's a beautiful place. The atmosphere in the temple is shady and quiet. Suitable for sightseeing and photography. The inside of the monastery is beautiful, but photography is not possible. You should go and see it with your own eyes. Feel the peace from the atmosphere within. And don't forget to buy souvenirs and amulets for your loved ones.

This was the first temple we visited during New Year's day. The place has a lot of interesting things to see such as a short program of a monkey doing tricks as well as food stalls that were located at the side of the area. The area was crowded but it is to be expected but one can still go to the temple proper without any line. The Tokyo tower can also be seen from behind.

Beautiful Buddhist temple, it includes other areas to see. For 1000 yen, you can visit the treasury gallery and the Tokugawa mausoleum. There is a cool exhibition in the treasury, it rotates every now and then to exhibit all the paintings. You can also visit the children garden. In that same area, you can grab a bite at a coffee shop, go to the Onamori train station or walk 5 min to the Tokyo tower, this one has plenty of interesting things to observe.

A very large buddha temple and the area is very wide. There are many beautiful parks around it. The scenery is very beautiful especially with the Tokyo Tower, this temple becomes even more beautiful. In autumn many trees turn red. So pretty. The very large gate that is on the side of the main road is also very interesting.

It is a beautiful shrine located near the Tokyo tower. Peaceful and quiet, you can't believe it is in the middle of a city. We were able to view the Evening service as well which started around 5 pm. Just beside it is the Tokyo tower. During the evening, when the tower is lit, it looks beautiful and quite majestic. There are many coffee shops around in this area if you want a quick break.

Most beautiful temple to visit in Tokyo. I am really mesmerized by the calmness and peacefulness of the temple. The statue of Buddha enhances the positive vibes. Just stand in front of the Buddha and forget the whole world. The place is really spiritual and devotional. It’s near to the Tokyo tower 🗼located in Shiba. Easily accessible from various places via metro. The first sight of the temple with the beautiful Tokyo tower 🗼 behind it delight to eyes. Zozoji temple has a great history in Tokyo. The main gate was built in 1622. It has witnessed various earthquakes and wars. There is also a memorial of the priests and mothers near to it. Don’t miss the autumn 🍂 valley park near to the zozoji temple.

There are probably a ton of reviews about this place, but I just have to say this place was the first major temple I visited during my trip to Tokyo and it didn't disappoint. I think it might get crowded during peak season and timings, but I visited around 10am and the crowd was relatively okay. I got off from Daimon Station which is on the Oedo line, and had to walk about 10 mins to the temple. It was morning so it wasn't that hot yet so it was a pleasant walk. You definitely won't miss the temple - there will be a towering brown gate that will greet you from a mile away. One famous feature of the temple is the fact that you can see both the main temple hall and the Tokyo tower in the same frame. Take the time to look around as well - there is an interesting section dedicated to honouring children (they do explain what that is). Overall, it will take about an hour if you take your time to properly explore your surroundings. Definitely recommended if it's your first time in Tokyo!

A beautiful temple with the distinctive feature of having Tokyo Tower standing tall behind the main hall. For American tourists like myself, the temple also contains two trees of note, one being planted by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1879, and the other by President George H. W. Bush in 1982. Inside the main hall, the atmosphere was very serene, with several rows of chairs set up in front of the main display should you wish to sit. I certainly recommend visiting if you're able!

Was there during new year eve for bell ringing. It was crowded around 10pm, but not that bad. There is free & paid sake provided. Praying and mochi making activity as well. Crowd is scary after 11pm, which makes it hard to enter the temple, the line moving inwards is superbly slow. There is police and traffic control inside the temple compund. So, if you planned to go here during new year eve, be sure to reach there around 10pm, not too late. And secure a good spot around the bell. Cheers! 😃

Enormous temple, very beautiful and very ancient. The complex has also a bell house, a big bodhitsava statue, and a huge entrance gate. You can visit the Zojoji treasure museum. There is also a shrine with little baby budas dedicated to to still born and miscarriages. You also get great photos with Tokyo Tower and Mori Tower behind.

There is a large hall (main hall), a bell tower, and Sanmon Gate on a large site. Since the roof tiles of the main hall will be repaired until October 2021, scaffolding for construction is built around the main hall. It was very valuable because I can only see it now. Zojo-ji is a fantastic Buddhist temple to visit. There are lots to see on the site, and it is a good place for taking photographs, though you do need to be respectful of areas that do not allow photography. This is an active temple, with many people coming daily to pay their respects. Lots of people dress in traditional clothes when visiting. There are toilets at the temple. There are places to eat in the surrounding shops. The area is accessible to people with a disability.

The origin is 8th century, but generally it`s recognized that this shrine was opened in the end of 13th. During WW2, almost all important buildings in this area were destroyed due to air raid. Funeral of Shinzo Abe (ex prime minister in Japan) was taken place in here.

A temple that has gone through decades and eras, yet still remain well reserved. The surrounding, the trees, the entire landscape, tranquility is the word to accurately describe Zolo-ji Temple. In fact, the minute I stepped into this temple, I can immediately felt that there’s a sense of calmness that ease my mind and appears to sweep away my unwanted worries. Thanks to the customer service officer from the Japan tourism board, I managed to hop on Tokyo Monorail and wrapped up my tour at Zolo-ji Temple in such a meaningful & peaceful manner. Highly recommend to tourists who have hours to kill before catching the returning flight. May peace be with you as well!

While the shrine itself is like a lot of others - however the gift shop is nicer than in most other shrines - the general area looks amazing. The view with the Tokyo tower screams a mix of ancient and modern. The shrine dedicated to unborn children is also very cute while taking into account its meaning.

Zojoji Temple is the head temple of the Jodo sect of Japanese Buddhism in the Kanto Region. Standing next to Tokyo Tower, the temple grounds consist of some impressive structures as well as a mausoleum of the Tokugawa family and a small museum. Most of Zojoji's current buildings are recent reconstructions except for the main entrance gate, the Sangedatsumon, which has survived many fires, earthquakes and wars and dates from 1622. The temple was originally built in the year 1393 and moved to its present location in 1598 by Tokugawa Ieyasu who selected it as his family temple. The mausoleum of the family is located at the back of the complex and contains the tombs of six of the Tokugawa shogun. The small museum in the basement of the temple's main hall focuses primarily on the previous manifestation of the Tokugawa Mausoleum, which included ornate buildings before it was severely damaged during World War 2. In addition to documents, the museum includes a video about the mausoleum's construction and a 1:10 scale model of the former buildings.

If you like temples and shrines, the Zojo-ji temple needs to be on your bucket list. It is very beautiful and has the Tokyo Tower right next to it, so that you can take cool pictures with the tower in the background. Another bonus is, that it is not as crowded as other temples and shrines like Asakusa.

Love this temple, everytime I go back to Tokyo I make sure I visit. I love it because it is right in the city. It is not as busy as other temples, which is excellent because it is very quiet and serene. Of course it has a very iconic backdrop of Tokyo tower which makes this temple very unique as well. (Translated by Google) I went to visit & tour before. The scenery that can be seen as a set with Tokyo Tower is overwhelming and very good. The Tokugawa family's grave seems to be closed depending on the day of the week, so I couldn't visit it. When I feel calm again, I would like to visit. ojojo temple is a Japanese Buddhism temple in Tokyo, Kanto Region. Standing next to Tokyo Tower, this temple has impressive structure and design. The main entrance gate, the Sangedatsumon, is very strong and has survived many fires and earthquakes. This temple was built in 1393, and Tokugawa Ieyasu, one of the most powerful men in the Edo period, chose this temple as his family temple. Behind the temple complex is Tokugawa and the family mausoleum, which includes six tombs. The temple is open from 6 am to 5.30 pm daily, with free admission. A small fee applies to enter Tokugawa Mausoleum and Museum. Subway stations nearby are Onarimon and Sibakoen, Daimon Station, or 10-minute walk from Hamamatsuchon station.
