Before explaining why this place deserves the 1-star review, I must say the atmosphere was the best thing about this restaurant. Food was not bad, but there are definitely better steakhouses in Toronto for the price. Aside from that, what earns the 1-star review was the extreme lack of professionalism displayed by the Assistant General Manager, Steve Spyrou. When it came time to pay, we questioned a charge of $99 for bottled still water, when it was never disclosed to us that there would be a cost, nor was there an option offered otherwise. Now I understand there is a cost to things and had the manager explained that properly, we would have complied or at least compromised in a solution. However, this wasn’t the case. Steve felt compelled to not only be extremely arrogant and question the “type of restaurants” we visit and compare them to experiences of his own, he went out of his way to ensure we had a terrible end to our evening by discussing the situation loudly with his colleagues in the back as we were on the way out. This type of thing is what ruins an establishment’s reputation. Had it been recorded and put on social media, it would have gone viral. All to say, there are much better options in the city to spend your money. And it goes without saying, nothing was really done to our $99 charge. He comp’d a few bottles and refused to do anything further.

Food and atmosphere does not deserve a 1 star review, but the Assistant General Manager, Steve Spyrou definitely does. Never have I seen a manager of a high-end establishment act so unprofessional when speaking to a customer. For a simple question regarding a charge on our bill, we were met with arrogance and disrespect that was completely uncalled for. There are many better choices in Toronto to spend your hard-earned money on a good steak, with a level of service to match.

Excellent service. It's more of a Italian restaurant than a steak house IMO but they do have some great meat. Meat quality is no doubt top quality and there is a good selection. My steak was a little over cooked and the server has offered to make a new one. I declined as I hate wasting food and the server offered me dessert and coffee on the house instead. Ambient is definitely good for dates.

The restaurant was amazingly decorated with a very classy glass fireplace and dry aging room for steaks. Yep those are dry aging steaks in the first picture hanging in the cold room. The scotch was crazy expensive, nearly half the cost of the bottle and it was a very meager pour. The bread was rather bland and the three toppings were underwhelming. There was a vegetable tapenade, a pesto cheese and butter. All three were not tasty so they could not help the characterless bread. In fact, the bread was not nearly as good as a dinner roll you could get from the grocery store in a bag on the shelf. The complimentary crispy artichoke was out of this world. Just the right balance between crisp and soft and tangy and sweet. Quite tasty but again the Parmesan cheeses was less than stellar. But this antipasto was definitely on the excellent side. We had the smoked char appetizer. It came with creme fresh and sturgeon caviar. It was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. They said it was 30 year old caviar but I couldn’t tell the difference from the cheap store bought stuff. But it was good and just about two bites. If you are accustomed to smoked fish being salty and dry you will be disappointed. This smoked fish was moist and just slightly salted, reminiscent of the ocean but in no way overdone. We had the 65 day aged t-bone. Wow was it good. I have to say that it was probably the best steak I have ever eaten. Amazing. We also have the cauliflower and it was just perfectly prepared. Well the only major drawback was price. The cost was steep. I left full but the wallet was empty. Definitely a place to talk people you want to impress. I was conflicted in the star rating. Usually I save a 5 for both exceptional- food, service and price so I am going to stick with that. But if ever I was going to give 5 at these prices this would be the restaurant. Remember not to add any condiments cause each one is $5. We had about a tablespoon of creamed horseradish sauce and sure enough it was 5 bucks.

Excellent service and a very appealing theme to it. The two things that were unpleasant was the fact my steak was just there by itself with no garnishes or mash and was just a little too much for a small piece of steak. Secondly, our seat was near the door and the door was opening up constantly and was getting pretty cold. But overall, the experience wasn’t bad.

Michael’s holds a special place in my heart as this is where I had my first oysters. They were fresh and lovely. I believe this is one of the only two restaurants in Toronto that carry a specific standard of Wagyu, as well as a variety of other cuts. The service here is immaculate and the ambience is just as appetizing as the food. Love it here.

Michael's on Simcoe was an amazing sensory experience. When we entered, we were greeted warmly by the hostess. She took our coats and guided us to a very cozy table. The restaurant was warm in both temperature and feeling. There were fireplaces tossing soft lights throughout the dining area. The seats were soft and sumptuous grey velvet. The tables were covered in crisp white linen. Our server, Etienne, truly deserves a review of his own. He was that wonderful. Etienne's service was exemplary. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu items and the pedigrees of the steak selection on the menu. His level of attentiveness was perfect. We were never left waiting, but he also knew when to give us privacy. Our table was kept clean and our meal courses were timed impeccably. Although it may sound like he was stuffy, Etienne was very pleasant and down to earth. All of our courses tasted incredible. We started with whiskey. This restaurant has an extensive library of spirits and wines. There was almost no item we asked for that wasn't in residence. The drinks and cocktails were categorized by country. No matter the formality, there is a bottle that would satisfy any occasion in the restaurant. I drank elderflower mojitos. They were not on the menu, but Etienne assured me that the bartender was fully qualified and could make any drink I wanted. I asked for an elderflower mojito, and they served me one (well a couple). They were delightful. We had an artichoke starter that was silky and crispy at the same time. Then we had a selection of side dishes which included a roasted mushroom medley that was rich and had a nice meaty texture. The dish was a wild variety of mushrooms lightly seasoned and very enjoyable. In addition to the mushrooms, we had sautéed rapini. Bright and garlicky, this dish almost made me want to become a vegetarian. We also opted for the truffle mac'n cheese. The taste and feel of it in my mouth was life altering. This pungent cheesy delight was everything comforting you'd expect from a true mac'n cheese. Quality cheese, visible truffle, and perfectly prepared pasta. For my main course I chose the lamb and added the roasted bone marrow to my lamb dish. The satiny texture of the marrow was indescribable. The dish came with blistered heirloom grape tomatoes and a mint pesto. The lamb was tender and flavorful and the dish really came together in a most pleasant way. Our meal was completed by a dessert selection which was, simply put, a perfect ending. If you are looking for that perfect celebration spot, romantic spot, or fine dining experience, this restaurant is all those things and more.

One of the best fine dining experiences I’ve ever had. The food tastes amazing. The servers are super professional and nice. The service might be a bit slower on Saturday nights but that doesn’t give the right to anyone to be rude to severs, something we witnessed this night. The washrooms were super clean. Nice music, good vibes. It’s a must try restaurant.

If you’re craving high quality Japanese beef or steak/meats, this is the place to go. We had the Miyazaki beef and lamb chops and both were amazing. Great service (special thanks to Jordan!) and ambience with a live performance from their in-house singer (we went on a Friday). If you still have enough space for dessert, highly recommend the affogato. They also have these custom made knives for the steaks which added to the experience!

Absolutely astonishing.. From start to finish.. Booking the reservation & modifying it without any hassle or issues.. Simply catering to my needs.. Friendly greetings from the second we arrived.. Followed by the ambience and polite knowledgeable waiters on their menu and even more so specifically on their steaks and the in depth history of them..! The food and drinks exquisite they even went out of they're way to give complimentary appetizers.. Honestly not a single blemish in this establishment. If I could give 6* I would.. They really made my birthday a blessed experience there and even exiting the exceptional customer service didn't end..! An absolute 100% recommendation for anyone reading this.. The best steak I've ever had and the lobster bisque is to die for! Thank you!!!

REALLY good food and REALLY good service! Would highly highly recommend. Every single item we had tasted amazing. The cheesecake looked and tasted different from normal cheesecake, but it was still fantastic. The service was also superb; they cleaned our table between courses and someone was always present to fill our waters. I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about this place.

Enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Michael's this week. Booking our reservation was quick and simple and parking was easily accessible from behind the restaurant. We dined on a Wednesday evening, so it was a nice and quiet evening. Our waiter was a complete gentleman and took his time to explain the items on the menu in great detail. Dinner began with some complimentary servings of bread with 3 different spreads, followed shortly by a tasty amuse-bouche. Dining at Michael's is meant to be an experience, so we decided to go with the A5 Miyazaki wagyu in addition to the striploin. Our sides included a corn dish along with some garlic mashed potatoes. Ordering the wagyu means that you get to choose from a set of special knives to cut your steak with. The knife is made out of VG10 steel with Japanese inscriptions and has a handle made from the wood of an endangered tree from Hawaii. Didn't change the way the steak tasted, but whatever. The restaurant kindly provided us with a complimentary plate of cookies and berries as an anniversary gift. One word of caution... the A/C blows pretty intensely out of the vents and caused our food to go cold pretty quickly. This might vary depending on where you're seated, so you may want to ask the staff to seat you somewhere that isn't in the direct path of the A/C.

I came to Michaels On Simcoe tonight for a celebration dinner with my family, and wow my experience was fantastic. The food, drinks, desert and most importantly service was IMMACULATE! The manager Steve Spyrou was very professional and went out of his way to make sure we had a wonderful experience. He even went the extra mile to ensure all of our questions were answered and that our food was all coming out in proper order and in perfect timing. Victoria and all the servers who tended to our table were also very sweet and made our celebration as perfect as can be! Thank you so much!

That was a really good fine dining restaurant for a business dinner! The place was cozy and comfortable to talk and enjoy the food. The stuff was friendly, very attentive, and not intrusive. I really enjoyed the meals here, everything was fresh, and the dishes were pretty served. Appetizers were interesting, especially the parmesan-spinach paste for spreading on bread. 1. Burrata salad is must try here, it was refreshing! I liked the balance of saltiness, sweet and sourness. The cheese was very soft and fresh, I liked the chanterelle mushrooms and very tasty mix of tomatoes! Absolutely beautiful that you can see the photos before and after :) 2. Artishok salad with ruccola was cool, I never tried artishoks before, very interesting taste, and we ate it all! It was a revelation for me. 3. It is a steakhouse, so I ordered the n.y. striploin, that was outstanding! This is definitely a best steakhouse in Toronto! 4. I'm a not big fan of sweets, but to be honest the chocolate-caramel cake was good. To summarize, I'd definitely come here again! Good place for business/private meetings.

Came here to have a nice evening, and was not disappointed at all. The restaurant presents a very attractive environment and the photos I saw online allured me to try this place out. We came in on a quiet evening and staff were very attentive and went out of their way to get to know us and understand what options on the menu we would enjoy. While waiting for appetizers, we were offered some compliments from the owner/kitchen. This was a pleasant surprise and added a nice touch to our dining experience. Although you'll need to be generous with your budget when dining here, you can be confident that the staff know how to ensure you have an excellent time here.

We spent a special night with my family at Michaels last week, and it could not have been more wonderful. Right off the bat, we were treated with such care and totally pampered. After some lovely glasses of champagne, we were served the most incredible food! You can tell they put a lot of care and thought into their menu and ingredients. Not to mention we were served some fantastic red wine to pair with our dinner. The ambience was very relaxed and with impressive art and an awesome musician in the lounge. We ended our perfect meal with some delicious cocktails shaken up by the best, and then out came the most stunning dessert I personally had ever seen. Wow. Just a fabulous night that none of us will soon forget. Thank you.

Food and service were great, but I have to say it is outrageously over-priced. 8oz steak is nearly $100 without any sides at all. They charged us $10 each for bottle of cold water. In the end for a table of six guests they didn't want to split the check, but they did after some coercion. Nice meal but a really bad value.

Flawless dining experience! The waiters made sure we were well taken care of and the steak, espresso martini, and corn were the best I’ve had in my life. If you’re looking for a true fine dining experience, Michael’s is pricey but well worth the money - a meal to remember.

Really happy with my fine dining experience here. The ambience was nice, our waiter was very polite and there was great background music with a gentleman playing the piano. The food was also great, especially the dessert!

I rarely leave reviews, but the service was actually the best experience I’ve had in a very long time. The GM, Steve, served our table. He was incredible, and treated us like gold. Aside from the service, the food was amazing. Definitely worth a visit.
