A Toronto institution for dumplings in China town. The chefs are making the dumplings in the front window right when you enter. Pretty modest set up for the dinning room. The restaurant is cash only (don’t worry they will remind you 5x while seating you), they do have an ATM available. We had the famous pan fried dumplings, we had the chicken. It was really great, perfect textures and big portion size. We also had the beef noodles, pretty good. No complaints. Would like to come back and try more dumplings. I think it was $15 for 12 pan fried.

Dumplings didn’t taste that different even though we got two flavours. The spicy chicken was the highlight who would have thought. Only cash is understandable but still you will be dinged some extra fees at their atm. We tried the pan fried dumplings but i wouldn’t be surprised if their steamed dumplings were similar.

Lemme tell you DUMPLING, we tend to over order when it comes to these😆 We got Fried Shrimp & Pork Dumpling, Lamb Meat Steamed Dumpling and Family Style Salad. These Fried Dumplings were INCREDIBLE, the most beautiful, crispy web-like bottom, juicy Filling, so good! Lamb Meat Steamed Dumpling was also delicious, the Lamb wasn’t gamey, but flavourful, and well seasoned! Their Dumpling wrappers are on the thicker side, which is how I like it! Family Style Salad was a cold dish that had sliced Seaweed, Tofu Skin, Cucumber, Carrots, so refreshing but slightly overpriced!

One of the best dumpling places I’ve been to in Toronto, and I’ve been to many. But, your expectations can’t be high for overall experience. Agree with other reviews, the only cash option makes it a bit difficult to be accessible to everyone. The restaurant itself is crammed with supplies. But their market scheme of the lady in the window hand making dumplings got me. I always try the classic pork and chive dumpling every place I go. And I was not disappointed. Took about 10 minutes after ordering to arrive at my table. The “dumpling skirt” fried around the dumplings make for a great crunch and fantastic eating experience. Tasty filling, good chew, and a crispy side. All make for a perfect dumpling. Give the place a try, definitely worth it.

The food was good, especially their pan-fried dumplings. Service was not too bad too. However, the restroom and the downstairs were foul and had a strong musty smell (my husband was shocked, almost abandoned all the food and just left after seeing their restroom). Also, the lantern lights had holes in them, and the sauce bottles looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for years. Plus, there were so many boxes and piles of old yellowed newspapers lying at the customer's eating area, which could also be a fire hazard. Overall, I think the restaurant could use a good renovation.

The last time I visited this place was about five years ago. It was good, not excellent, but still a reliable option for dumplings. I know this place is an institution in Chinatown. During my childhood, there were limited options for good and authentic Chinese food. However, my recent experience was extremely disappointing. The Shanghai fried noodles were oddly too sweet, and the fried dumplings were soggy rather than crispy. The boiled dumplings were the worst; the wrapper tasted old and frozen, and the filling tasted strange and bland. I feel like the food is catered to non-Asians. The service was pretty terrible. The younger man was a bit rude, but the older gentleman (maybe the owner) was much more pleasant. The restaurant also had a peculiar wet basement smell, which I could have ignored if the food was worth it. I'm not sure if my taste buds have changed with all the better Chinese food options now available, especially in the Markham/Scarborough region, or if Dumpling House has truly gone downhill. If you're looking for nostalgia, you might visit, but you'll probably leave disappointed with the food.

Really delicious and fresh fried pork and chive dumplings! The filling was very flavourful and it’s always great watching them fold the dumplings in the front. It was a little oily for me but still had great flavour! Also it’s cash only here but there is an ATM.

Seemed like mostly locals went here for the decent food and dumplings. The simple egg fried rice had that wok taste you look for and well seasoned. Dumplings were definitely a highlight. Prices and portions are quite good too. Definitely recommend the fried pork dumpling and steamed pork/shrimp dumplings.

I’ve been to this place a couple times and enjoy it! We got the Gong-Bao Chicken over Rice and the Pork and Chive steamed dumpling. The chicken’s sauce was delicious and the veggies and chicken was done well. The dumplings are made fresh to order and were juicy with some nice flavour! I love their chilli sauce. The prices are reasonable and this place is cash only. The downside is that there is no AC, so it was super hot.

Beat dumpling spot in Toronto! Dumplings are made fresh on-site and service is super quick. This place is cash only with no ATM on site and little ventilation, but great for quick eats. Highly recommend the pan-fried dumplings!

Looking for a hidden gem? Yes, this place certainly fits the title. They prepare fresh dumplings right before your eyes, and they're as delightful as homemade ones. The flavors are outstanding, although they could use a bit less dough – our last order had a bit too much dough and not enough filling. We had the pleasure of trying chicken, lamb, and beef dumplings, and all of them were truly delicious. We also ordered wonton soup, which turned out to be a yummy addition to our meal. I'll definitely consider getting it again, especially during the cold weather. All in all, this place offers a good dining experience.

Small and cozy dumpling place in Chinatown. Reasonably price, and only take cash. Been here regularly. Their freshly made dumplings are unbeatable. You will see grandmas standing in the front wrapping dumplings. The wrap here was just thick enough, chewy and very tasty. Always get a pan fried and a steam. I tried general tao chicken before as well - pretty solid and good portion. This place is small and gets filled up very quickly- just to show you how good their dumplings are.

A great place to get fresh and authentic dumplings, handmade right in the window! Also got these house special noodles and they were amazing. Portions are quiet generous and appropriately priced. This restaurant has a cozy atmosphere for late in the evening. Would highly recommend 🥟

Dumpling house is one of my favourite go to spot for dumplings, they are definitely in first spot for me. You can get them steamed or pan fried. Pan fried is life changing ✨ (I got the pork) but there’s a few other options to chose from too! I also got their house special noodles - which included beef, chicken, and shrimp. Delicious 🤤🍗🍤🥩🍜 ($11.99 each)

Really good authentic Chinese dumplings, with good prices, this place has been around forever! Awesome awesome simple place, you can see them making dumplings through the window from the street. A bit of a small area inside, and could get pretty busy as this place is popular. Great selection, tons of vegetarian options. Big portions.

The dumplings are as delicious as everyone says! I tried the shrimp and pork dumpling and totally loved it. The service was decent. However, Summer is knocking and the restaurant can get pretty busy and filled. It’s also a pretty small space with little ventilation so I waited outside with friends. Restroom isn’t too great either. But The food is definitely worth it!

A Toronto staple for hand made, fresh dumplings. Served steamed or pan fried and available in a variety of flavours. The menu is extensive and portions are generous. I recommend bringing cash! Highly recommend visiting Dumpling House Restaurant for a casual bite in Chinatown Toronto. 🥟🥣🍚

Fresh and hot! See the steam. Watch them make it live at the window. Great Service no hot water or saki available. For 30 dumplings $30 includes tax was another Wow for me. Dipping sauce was flavoured nicely and nit needed the dumplings were great on their own. Good fast service.

Quite disappointed with the overall! - quality of food is average. - price is quite pricey vs. Quality - only accepted cash. - service is not friendly/welcoming by the mature waiter. The first question I was asked “do you have cash” when I just entered the restaurant” and make me felt very uncomfortable!! So these are the reasons that I love to share .

Best people, best food hands down. I struggle between telling everyone I know about this place and keeping it a secret. Veggie dishes are incredible and so are the pork and chive pan fried dumplings. Will not go anywhere else in Toronto.

I stopped by for a quick bite so the family and I only tried a couple of types of dumplings. They were freshly made and the service was fast. Prices were reasonable as well, so I'd be happy to return to try some of their other dishes, and would certainly recommend this place at least for their dumplings.

Very traditional chinese home style food. Most stood out dish was the egg tomato rice. You can probably find cheaper option offering similar food but the food is not bad. This place is small and packed. Not very comfortable seating

Never disappoints, the pan fried lamb dumplings are my go to and is a must have! Love their chicken and broccoli with brown sauce on rice too.

Amazed with the authentic flavor! I enjoyed the boiled dumplings with 3 different fillings (pork with chives, pork with Chinese cabbage, and lamb). My bf also ordered their fried rice and absolute love them. I am happy with my order and I hope that everyone else comes to this place with an open mind and enjoy the experience of homemade dumplings and more!

Honestly one of the best dumpling places you're gonna find in downtown Toronto. Not too expensive, and suuuuper tasty. Not a lot of drink options, so don't expect to go there to grab a beer or anything. However, keep in mind that this restaurant is CASH ONLY, and there isn't too much room for seating. If ordering delivery from this place, the fried dumplings won't be as good as dine-in because they end up a little soggier during delivery.

The best dumplings ever, other places don't even compare. Their pan fried dumplings are super fresh, crispy and hot. Also the eggplant dish tasted so good and shanghai noodles are 🔥 Prices are affordable too! I've come here a lot 😊

Our favourites are the Soup Dumplings, Spicy Boiled Beef and Cumin Lamb. The Spicy Sliced Pork is supposed to have eggplants but I couldn’t fine or taste any. That’s a bit disappointed. But overall, The taste of the food are complex, spicy and tasty! They are famous for their boiled dumplings, had a couple of times and it was good. Our favourite is the Pork, Chive and Shrimp Dumplings🥟

We refer to this place as the crack dumpling house because the pan fried dumplings are so good they’re addictive. It’s so difficult to stop eating them. Hot and sour soup is also the best around!

  • 5/5 Melissa D. 1 year ago on Google
The dumplings are made-to-order and so delicious. The noodles were very tasty as well. Lots of food for a decent price. Not cheap though. Note that it’s a cash only business, but there’s an ATM inside with a $2.75 fee.

I have gone to this place multiple times to eat dumplings. First time I tried hot and sour soup, pork noodles and garlic bol choy! I think I will order these again and again now. Soup was good enough for two. Very yummy! More reasons to return

This place came recommended by a friend but it was such a disappointment. Their dumplings are handmade fresh but there were super oily and doughy. Their fried dumplings are more flavourful than the steamed ones but they aren't even closed properly, they're all open on the ends (see photo) so the insides were just as oily as the plate. I had also a dirty plate and asked for a clean one, but never got it. We ordered spring roles and they were tasteless. Definitely not a place I'll ever recommend to anyone. Oh, and it's cash only, they didn't tell us until after the orders came, so one of us had to go find an atm.

Our dinner at Dumpling House was just a regular dinner. Nothing overly good or bad. We got the mix of pork chive, shrimp, and chicken pan fried dumplings, and fried rice. While the dumplings were good, the rice was pretty subpar. The server initially seated us in front of the stairs that lead down to washroom, and it smelled very strong of the chemical/washroom smell. So we asked if we can seat elsewhere and did.

Cool place, you can watch them make the dumplings right in front of you. I ordered the vegetable pam fried dumplings and they were top notch! Nice to see a cash business - atleast we know they will be open even if the internet goes down like it did 2 years ago! Smart business not going cashless!

  • 4/5 Linn K. 11 months ago on Google
Found this cute family-run restaurant where you can watch the ladies whip out tons of dumplings effortlessly. We got the noodles, hot and sour soup and potstickers. The noodle dish and soup were really good but the potstickers weren’t that great. The skin was a tad too chewy and the filling was quite bland. Service was great though. It’s also cash only but they do have an ATM machine inside of the restaurant.

  • 5/5 S A. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing spot not just for dumplings but noodles as well! Loved the services as well, you can just tell this place is serious about their food. Would highly recommend.

The location is great and the staff were nice. Place is small hence seems like very busy. The dumpings are made in front of you. We have ordered set of both stream and fried dumping. Fried was editable but I am not sure what I ate for steam ones. I have had better dumping from else where and the fillings were much tastier. I was very disappointed for spending 17 bucks on some tasteless dumping. I don't like giving bad reviews but I couldn't help it. The shop is located near other food and clothing place so after eating you can walk around. No parking nearby but TTC stop very close to it. If you must want to try, try the fried instead. We chose all vegetarian options for fried and non fried plus shrimps.

  • 4/5 Quincy L. 1 year ago on Google
Compared to the other dumpling restaurants in Toronto (excluding Markham/Scarborough b/c they’re on a diff league) this place is pretty good! Service was quick and dumplings which can be served fried or steam was good. I got the pork/shrimp steamed dumpling and pork/chive fried dumpling. I loved the chew from the steam dumpling and its so satisfying to eat on a cold day. Fried is always a great option too and the lattice on the dish is always my favorite part. You will not be let down on their dumplings! So I’ve been here several times and what is holding me back to give this a 5 is the cash only and side dishes. I just think cash is quite inconvenient imo. Regarding side dishes I’ve tried the noodles, cold tofu and now the pork/veg stir fry and they’ve all been pretty mid. Sometimes a bit too salty for my taste as well. If you ever come here I would highly suggest the dumplings. The sides you can skip unless you’re really craving something they have.

Dumpling House has been a Chinatown staple for as long as I can remember. The dumplings here are top quality and stuffed with deliciousness. Unlike other dumpling restaurants the food here tastes very homestyle, very comforting; not overly greasy nor overly salty. Service was very friendly and helpful when ordering. The only downside is the prices, the menu items are very pricey compared to similar restaurants in the area.
